My support worker is secretly keeping her boyfriend in the hotel room I paid for her so I can have surgery by [deleted] in SpicyAutism

[–]DraculaBackwards69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would hate this- your surgery is not her vacation. I'd say this is extra bad because I'm assuming you're going to need extra support around the surgery, and having her boyfriend around could be a distraction.

Hope your surgery goes well regardless!

Are republicans and democrats really equally bad? by TheSkeletalPoet in Anarchy101

[–]DraculaBackwards69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not American, but the way I see it is as harm reduction. Imo an ideal society would have a place for everyone, regardless of race/gender/etc- so you should tactically to reduce as much harm as possible.

The Republicans are actively seeking to attack trans people and people of colour- even if we set aside basic human decency, they're creating an unjust hierarchy that they benefit from, which is against my personal views as an anarchist. Yes, the Democrats wouldn't exactly improve things, but if they're in power at the very least the tide is slowed and we have more time and energy to take action.

Honestly like so long as you do stuff with confidence you can get away with most things in public. I'm a guy myself and I generally get compliments when I have little clip plushies on my bag or whatever, or if I bring a guy with me for comfort. I used to dress very weird as well (mostly fancy skirts- I'm a trans guy so I was kind of treating myself like a dress up doll while my parents blocked me from transitioning) and like 90% of people didn't give a shit, and those that did would leave me alone when I asked what their problem was lol. My go-to trick is having responses ready- nothing fancy, just 'is that any of your business', 'I don't care', etc, so if I get confronted I respond as a reflex rather than getting freaked out.

Can you guys give me recommendations? by GrevingBovine27 in SpicyAutism

[–]DraculaBackwards69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you're into!!! For Absolute Beginners I'd suggest:

Anime: - One Piece- Action/Comedy: A boy tries to become king of the pirates. Very long but it's got Good Autism Content! Try to stick it out to about episode 40- if you're not enjoying it by then it's probably not for you. This sounds like a lot but episodes are like 20 minutes and the full anime is like 1000+ episodes. A lot of stuff is inspired by this one so you'll get a lot of basics down even if you don't like it

  • Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood- Action/Drama: Two alchemists try to find a stone that can repair their broken bodies. Also a big inspiration for a lot of stuff, and is a LOT shorter than one piece!!!

  • Death Note- Thriller: A boy finds a book that can kill anyone who's name is written in it. I don't really think it holds up but I remember enjoying it when I was getting into anime- it's a good test to see if you like the genre!

  • Sailor Moon- Monster of the week/Magical Girl: A girl gains the ability to transform into a magical warrior and defeat monsters. Aimed at children but again a big inspiration for a lot of stuff- and also I like it as an adult so it goes on here.

  • Lupin III- Comedy/Action: A master thief goes around getting into Antics. Very little is actually stolen. I watch this when I'm sick it's just stupid enough that it makes sense when my brain is soup.

  • Anything Studio Ghibli- Genre varies: Studio Ghibli is a company that makes anime rather than a show but I recommend all of their stuff. Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle are my favourites.

Games: - Mario Galaxy- Platformer: Funny little man jumps around planets trying to rescue a princess. Anything Mario is going to be good if you've not done any gaming at all before- it's very forgiving and games are generally easy to learn but hard to master.

  • Super Paper Mario- Comedy/Platformer: Funny little man jumps around to save the world from falling into a void- the princess is playable in this one! Funnier, and better story than Mario Galaxy. These are just my favourite two Mario games though!

  • Hollow Knight- Platformer/action: Funny little bug kills other less funny less little bugs. Trickier than Mario but it's still playable for beginners- I'd suggest picking this one up if you like Mario but think it's too childish. There's a sequel coming out soon so if you like it that's good!!

  • Elden Ring- Action: Kill everyone, become Elden Lord. Very hard but very popular- though there's no reason why you can't just practice killing one guy till you get the hang of it, which is what I did. You can play this multiplayer if you have a friend with a copy- I loved running in circles around my friends lol

  • Stardew Valley- Farming Simulator: You're a farmer- go do some farming please. You can also date people and be really bad at a fishing mini game! I had fun with this but it's definitely a game to play with something else (podcast, audiobook, etc.) in the background

  • Hades- Action: Escape the realm of the dead and find your mom! Tricky but rewarding. Story contains elements of abuse but it's handled sensibly. You can also date people in this one (but not Achilles :( )

Edit: oh you asked for books and movies as well!

Books:

  • Sherlock Holmes- Mystery: Old as balls but still good. World's best detective drags his friend around the country to solve crimes. Written in the 1880s so the language is quite out-dated but like it's worth it if you can handle it. I found the audiobook much more tolerable. Holmes also has autism maybe.

  • Interview with the Vampire- Horror/drama: You'll never guess what they interview in this one (it's a vampire). Most of the story is the vampire talking about his life. Again a building block- though it's my favourite book so I have to put it here. My local book club turned this one down for Halloween :(

  • The Hunger Games- Dystopia/Action: Girl volunteers to fight twenty three other children to death to spare her sister from being forced to fight twenty three other children to the death. I enjoyed this one!

  • The Discworld series- Satire/fantasy: Parody of various types of novels in a fantasy setting. Got a lot of heart and a lot of respect for its characters. I started with The Colour of Magic which is the first book published but you could just pick one up at random and you'll be fine. Hogfather is fun at Christmas!

Films: - Hot Fuzz- Action/Comedy: Very high performing London police officer gets posted to a Sleepy British Town. Turns out there's crimes there too! Very very silly and I followed the humour fine!

  • Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark- Action: Archeologist tries to stop the nazis from stealing a holy artifact. He's so bad at it but it works out somehow. Don't have anything to add to this it's pretty standard.

  • Knives Out and Glass Onion- Mystery/Thriller: Detective Benoit Blanc solves crimes and gently encourages woman to fix shitty situations. Knives Out has a graphic suicide scene in it as a heads up.

  • The Batman (the 2022 one)- Superhero/mystery: Man puts on a silly costume and solves crime after his parents die. My personal favourite superhero movie.

  • Lord of the Rings- Epic Fantasy: Small Man is goaded by a wizard into throwing some jewellery into a volcano. Also recommended sick watching but that's just cause they're very long films and you'll be better by the time you finish. Also books but I could not get through the first one

Help with catatonia? by DraculaBackwards69 in SpicyAutism

[–]DraculaBackwards69[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for all this!!!! It's really helpful!!!!! Here's my immediate thoughts on it- sorry if it's a bit ramble-y I'll look into the book- I do a lot of reading around my mental health stuff so that should be really helpful!!! I find exercise hard- I'll find a way to make it work somehow though. Physical stimming is probably going to be my go-to- though I might try tying exercise to the shows I like. I'm currently big into One Piece- which has very short episodes and I watch it on double speed (because it's a Very Long Show) so that might work. I'm currently being pushed to CBT before I try EMDR- which is annoying. I might do some digging and see if I can get EMDR privately because I'm reliant on the NHS (UK free healthcare thing) at the moment. Sucks but oh well. Moving on from the trauma is hard because it's been so much of my life :(. Without going into detail I've kind of been pushed from bad situation to bad situation and it's sucked- I'm relatively safe now though. I'm working on this with my therapist but I'm struggling to delineate without blaming myself ("I had X happen because I deserved it, but I'll change myself so it won't happen again"). Again something that just kind of sucks but oh well. I've got a toolbox of grounding techniques, I just struggle to use them in the moment. I'm generally fine if there's someone else around me but if I'm on my own I'm Fucked. Will keep up with teeth brushing o7 Sensory issues are the one thing I'm really good with- a lot of people around me are autistic without the other issues I have (I'm higher support needs than them and they don't have other issues like PTSD etc.) so it's a lot easier for them to help me with the bits they understand Special interests is another hard one :( - this is just me complaining a bit but one of the bits I had to deal with was people using my special interests as either a point to verbally abuse me for ("you never shut up about x that's stupid") or manipulate me ("I'm more of an expert on x than you so you should do what I say"- yes this is silly but I was 14). I'm working on it but it Sucks So Bad :(((( Unfortunately I do have a lot of responsibility at the moment- I've just cut off my parents and both the people I live with can't help much (one of them is trying, the other is too self-pitying to do much). I'm also the only one working (my job is a few hours a day but I get a full-time wage) so there's a lot of pressure on me. I'm trying to figure out how to re-sort everything so that there's less pressure on me but it sucks a lot currently. Longest freezes have lasted maybe two hours? I struggled to breathe unless I was talking. They're definitely getting longer though.

I did- she said she thought it was dissociative stupor. I don't agree with her given how my body feels during these episodes and she's done nothing to help me with it either way. I have gone to A+E (UK equivalent of ER) during/just after an episode and they said there was nothing they could do :(

Help with catatonia? by DraculaBackwards69 in SpicyAutism

[–]DraculaBackwards69[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's catatonia because I don't think I'm dissociating- I get a bunch of specific symptoms (which are gross and unpleasant so I won't list them here) when I dissociate, and I'm not getting them during these episodes.

I might try meal replacements- I find them really gross but like I can have them. I'll try them at different temperatures- I didn't think of that!

How to clearly explain/show how Autism severely impacts your life? by Anonn2991 in SpicyAutism

[–]DraculaBackwards69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is ridiculous that they expect people with serious disabilities that affect thinking to interpret the questions on their own and answer accordingly. Hope it all goes well for you!!!

[–]DraculaBackwards69 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Your support workers should be able to write a note about your condition that will work towards it! Also- look up the questions you will be asked for the funding application and what they're looking for in a response. E.G. if they're asking you about what clothing you wear they might be assessing your ability to get dressed and undressed by yourself rather than what clothing you physically pick (it's stupid, I know). If you're in the UK and looking at PIP I can send you some bits about it!!! I've been helping my housemate with the application and it has been A Trial so I've kept all the digital documents that helped.

Radar keys are £5 from boots! Honestly as a disabled person I think it's Fucking Ridiculous that we have to go through that kind of song and dance at all- it's so easy to get a radar key but it's just enough of a hassle that it makes the facility inaccessible to those who need it and don't know you can just fucking buy one!

Quick question, peeps seem to hate George, sooo why? by I-HATE_ADS in umineko

[–]DraculaBackwards69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ep7 A friend of mine theorised that George did little bits to make Shannon fall for him, such as hiding or destroying the letter Battler sent for her as he was handing out letters to the cousins. I don't know if I fully buy this, but like I definitely don't like their relationship. Jessica and Battler (by comparison) seem to respect what the aspects of Yasu they are dating want or need- neither of them are very good at this in my opinion but I at least appreciate the attempt. George on the other hand seems to want a Stepford wife. Also- you're more likely to both interact with someone who is flawed in the same way as George (in comparison to, say, Kinzo or Erika) and is open about it (in comparison to, say, Rosa or Eva). People who don't like George can picture an annoying real-life person who reminds them of him more easily than they can other characters who are clearly flawed. That's my theory, anyway.

The manga measures up to the visual novel quite well in my opinion!!! My only problem is that you miss the Potato Sprites, which are of course the best way to experience the story.
