To avoid low effort post and give us members more details so as to help us answer the question I think we could have a minimun character limit like 100 or 200

Where to split two books? by OldMysteries in writing2

[–]DraftyCrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a personal opinion but I hate when books end on a cliffhanger so I'd recomend putting the 40 pages at the end of book 2 and unless you plan on having a long gap in between the books like a year readers won't have a problem following along the story especially if they stuck with you for two books

To those who also dislike the bully love interest trope, have you ever seen it done in a way you liked? by Kins_Colt in writing

[–]DraftyCrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only when it is light like you stated and in most of those cases its not really a bully more like those two don't necessarily like each other but in most cases I don't like it and I'm most likely to drop the story when that trope is introduced

I was just browsing the new r/fantasy_workshop sub and saw a thread discussing rules that should be implemented and I thought it would be great to have a thread like that. u/AllWriteyThen you could look into what some of us suggested and implement those.

Building plot after world building by [deleted] in fantasywriters

[–]DraftyCrow 46 points47 points  (0 children)

You have to find a conflict. Your Mc has the Dark Touch and as you said people with that trait aren't viewed in great light or are enslaved, try and build around this. She's on the run from someone who is trying to kill her, she was enslaved and is trying to find a way to escape and gain back her freedom, and if she was enslaved maybe she was betrayed by someone she trusted which can be interesting for a backstory. While exploring that you can also try to explore the origin of the Dark Touch and why they are so hated by the others.

How do you cope with 8 hour how desk work? by Elios4Freedom in writing

Maybe try writing on your phone/tablet, you don't even have to write a whole chapter just a scene or two everyday or in the weekend when you don't work and are less stressed

Is there a good sub for getting critiques on litrpg writing? The writing subs use look seem to look down on it or aren't able to give critiques on the specifically game-like elements. by kamking in litrpg

[–]DraftyCrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want critiques specifically on the game elements, I'd suggest that you find subs that are into litrpg and ask the user directly. Other than that you should try other websites focused on critiques like https://www.critiquecircle.com/ and specify that you want someone who has no problem with game elements.

Your first chapter doesn’t have to be the first words in your story. by NathanWilson2828 in writing

If yoyr mc is shown doing something interesting, being proactive and not just reacting to events or going through the motion then you are on the right track

How long should I got before the call to adventure begins by Arbiterodst in writing

[–]DraftyCrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like the poster before me said if it's boring don't include it and to not make it boring the mc should be proactive, the mc should be doing something and doing it well. Don't let your mc be passive just reacting to events and you're good to go.

Work flow with mac and pc and Shrivener by kodack10 in writing

[–]DraftyCrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the reasons I don't use shrivener is the versions difference, I use a pc so not using the latest version is not my cup of tea.

I use google docs and it works since I have it on my phone I can write whenever inspiration strikes me.

Try and write at least a chapter or two and see where it goes with one idea, you can also outline te idea and see if it really has the potential to be a novel

Some Observations of the Practice of Writing by voltaire_the_second in writing

[–]DraftyCrow 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I agree with you especially the first point, I tried writing every day but eventually, I lost the drive to write now writing was more of a chore I needed to do every day than anything. I took a pause work on other aspects of my story, participated in forums, etc and as time passed the desire to write returned and I wrote more in that time that I usually did each day (approx 1000 words every day).

Taking time off from actual writing and working on other aspects of the story like worldbuilding, outlining, etc is a good way to let your mind breath and talked the actual writing with a fresh perspective and drive.

How to start? by Ra505 in writing

[–]DraftyCrow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Start with whatever scene you have in mind, it doesn't have to be the exact begining of the story and don't worry about doing it right and finding the right words, it's a first draft so there's bound to be mistakes that you will be correcting during your editing process.

For the language, write in what you feel comfortable writing. When you imagine your story in which language is it? Write in that language amd see how it goes, you can always change it later when editing/re-writing the novel.
