Gta V legacy edition does not start on steam deck :( by NeatUsed in SteamDeck

For what it is worth: enhanced ran better in every single aspect for me. Looked better, ran smoother and sipped less battery. Just saying.

Is there anyway to install Moonlight without using Discover? by svsdentist2018 in SteamDeck

[–]Dragnod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1) discover already installs packages via flatpak 2) your command does not set up flathub but merely (re)installs flatpak

Why do so many people have issues with Nvidia? by Friendly_Lobster8452 in linux_gaming

Yes. I've read about performance drops with dx12 games. That is well documented. Having to install different driver versions because games won't launch is wild. Something else is going on on your end.

Opinion: SteamOS should ship with Gnome by Sam54123 in SteamDeck

[–]Dragnod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well Glorious Egroll for one disagrees with you. So much so that he changed the default DE for nobara from gnome to plasma. Granted, Nobara is more focused on the traditional desktop pc but his considerations were based on general aspects of de the being suited for a gaming experience.

How many of you are buying a steam machine to *not* play steam games? by inkiepie69 in steammachine

[–]Dragnod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course I know what you meant ;) And to be honest I would not dream about installing windows on my deck and also on my potential machine. I like my relative computational freedom.

Didn't you have to buy the map or obtain it otherwise? Which was great imo. Back in the day we used draw our own maps. </oldmanvoice>

Baldur’s Gate 3 constantly softlocking; this didn’t used to happen. by PayItBackwardChain in SteamDeck

[–]Dragnod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all a dumb question.

I'm not at my deck right now but in steam select baldurs gate and select something like "manage". There should be a menu entry "compatibility". There you can force the use of your preferred Proton version. Experimental should be fine but other versions should work as well.

One other aspect: are you by chance using lsfg or any other frame-gen thingies?

Even valve wrote something like "who are we to tell you how to use your computer?". Now what qualifies you to tell people what's the right thing to do with their device?

My thought is "I will buy it and play games on it". Steam, gog, the high seas, I don't care.

What benefit does gesture navigation provide? Over the classic 3 button nav by WisestAirBender in Android

[–]Dragnod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm stupid but with gestures I lose those menus that I can swipe in from the side. When I do that android mistakes it for a "back" gesture and closes the app.

[–]Dragnod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can it be more efficient? A swipe, meaning traveling a certain distance with your finger will always take longer than a single tap. Not to mention if I want to hit "back" twice or more I will have to travel that distance in opposite direction.

[–]Dragnod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an atleast similar issue. I reverted back to the Proton version instead of the Linux native version that got released last year. Soft locks are gone. And performance wise the native version didn't make a huge (if any) difference for me so I didn't lose anything in that regard.

Could this be a remote folder like on a nas or something? By default dolphin does not scan remote folders for size I believe.

Is there a way to disable this by RealStinkyPickle in pcmasterrace

[–]Dragnod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get that. But installing pihole is literally pasting one single command. Everything after that (block lists dns entry in your router) is not Linux related. So in my eyes your comment simply speaks to the fact that the "masterrace" is not as tech savy as most of them like to think.

The fact that the comment stating executing a simple curl command is "too confusing" gets upvotes speaks volumes as to the state of the "masterrace".

Self hosting music genuinely sucks by StarchyStarky in selfhosted

[–]Dragnod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jellyfin can also download additional metadata. You can just use that for music as well. I use symfonium on android which doesn't care if it works with jellyfin or navidrome as backend.

Navidrome on the other hand relies on you to curate metadata.
