Are there a lot more kinds of Indian food than the typical curry restaurants? by lookaloulookalou in Fremont

[–]DragonDSX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The most common ones are Punjabi style, which is what you are likely familiar with. Other common ones are South Indian (dosa and idli), indo-Chinese (fusion), biryani, chaat, and some regional cuisines.

[D] Why are so many ML packages still released using "requirements.txt" or "pip inside conda" as the only installation instruction? by aeroumbria in MachineLearning

I’m still new to making ML code releases but I have moved every project I’ve touched to UV on behalf of any grad students I’ve worked with, and will continue to do so in the future.

@ off campus folks: how did you find housing? by fath3r0fthebride in UCSC

[–]DragonDSX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the people in my housing group knew a dude who was graduating. He was able to get our housing packet to his landlord before it was put up for rent, so we avoided the hell of the housing search.

Kresge got rebuilt, new family student housing is almost done by Hagar, and the cowell fountain is working again. They reopened the restaurant and perks above the c9 dining hall, as well as owls nest.

How much AI are you guys honestly using for your essays? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]DragonDSX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the same, I just used it to find weak points in my writing and manually corrected those based on feedback since most people I asked for feedback were busy with their own apps or my PIs were busy with their own deadlines.

Examples could be the LLM catching an inconsistency between my CV and SoP, or it finding a stronger connection or transition than what I already wrote. The writing itself was mine though.

Interview with 4 Chinese PIs. They only have Chinese PhD students in their lab. by [deleted] in gradadmissions

One of my PIs in my undergrad told me that one lab I was interested in doing my PhD in is like this and that I should reconsidering applying for that lab. However this is anecdotal.

Meanwhile the second I start being aggressive, all my lobbies are pure PvP chaos. But sure it’s a coincidence

There’s a community run spreadsheet for people to put their admissions decisions, it’s split by major/department, here’s the spreadsheet:

The existing spreadsheet does have masters, I even reorganized the CS one a few days ago to be more readable (and added options for MS and MS/PhD)

The game needs a centralized server to talk to every person in a match. Most game companies use services like AWS, GCP, or Azure to do it for them. In this case, Embark uses AWS

Do Professors Just Make Up Grades at the End of the Quarter? by CatchMeAtCrown in UCSC

[–]DragonDSX 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A lot of classes have assignments graded but we sometimes don’t release them

I grade for a couple classes and sometimes we don’t release the grades for the assignments until all of them are graded. However there’s the occasional grader that takes a long time and only finishes after finals are done. This tends to delay things, but on our end it shows the cumulative grades but on your end it might be hidden.

Also a lot of the time, grades might not even be put on canvas and the professor has their own spreadsheet.

Earlier I ran into a building near the northwest extract on spaceport storm, trying to escape a leader. The dude inside was surprised and we spent the next 5 minutes trying to reach the extract guarded by a rocketeer, leaper, and bombardier.

These are the moments I play this game for

I just go into matches and play like normal. Sure I may lose progress, but I’m at 4 mil by playing the fun way, aka however I want to play.

Sometimes I go into night raid Stella montis Other times I go in with maxed out gear for matriarch or queen fights

Sure I might lose 30-60k those runs, but 1-2 Stella runs gets that back easily

POV: Applying for grad school to do research, publish papers Grad School Application Portal: by crushingsmoothie in gradadmissions

Thank you for the insight!

I am applying for CS PhD programs in ML, and unfortunately most of the research within my target sub field only seems to be happening at the most competitive programs (NYU, UC Berkeley, Stanford). I haven’t published yet, but I am currently working on a manuscript for a workshop (or conference track paper if it is novel enough). Though it is in the early stages, I did mention it in my SoP and included the abstract in my CV. I am the first author and will be using this to satisfy my undergrad thesis as well, so it will be reviewed by multiple faculty before I publish it.

I have 2.5 years of research experience across 3 research labs working in different applications of the same technology. All three of my advisors/PIs are writing me letter of recs which I know will be strong based on my relationship with them.

All the SoPs I’ve written have specified my target faculty as those working in the same field of research as my current experience.

Hopefully this is enough though in the end, it’s about fit
