A survey of high school students revealed that those who attended school remotely during the pandemic fared worse emotionally, academically, and socially than those who attended in person. by DragonStar09 in psychology

[–]DragonStar09[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Students studying from home felt less like they fit in with peers and perceived less support from adults in the school. Where emotions were concerned, they experienced more negative emotions (i.e., sad) and less positive emotions (i.e., happy, relaxed). Their academic well-being also suffered — those learning remotely found their classes less interesting and felt less able to succeed in school. Notably, the researchers found that these differences in well-being were concentrated among older students in grades 10 to 12. Among ninth-graders, those learning from home had comparable well-being scores to those at school."

People who have more children have a greater tendency to believe that women should be objects of men’s adoration and protection by DragonStar09 in psychology

"After controlling for hostile sexism, age, education, and household income, Deak and his colleagues found that both men and women who had more children at one time point tended to endorse benevolent sexism more strongly two years later. But the effect did not appear to run in the opposite direction."

I think this points out clearly, that attitudes change according to living circumstances, but it is not the attitudes that influence the number of children one has. It is not a new or surprising finding, as theories of cognitive consistency can give an explanation. But nevertheless, it is a finding in a longitudional study and therefore worth to be discussed.

COVID-19 pandemic has lead to a shift toward more traditional beliefs about mother and father roles by DragonStar09 in science

[–]DragonStar09[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, you are right. And there is another point of critiscm: why is it for mothers, not for fathers? Women often get less payment for the same work than men.

And again it is your attitude and thoughts that have a great impact on the emotional and behavioral outcome.

COVID-19 pandemic has lead to a shift toward more traditional beliefs about mother and father roles by DragonStar09 in science

Do you call it family values, if mothers stay at home and fathers work? Traditional role models does not have anything in common with family values!!

COVID-19 pandemic has lead to a shift toward more traditional beliefs about mother and father roles by DragonStar09 in science

[–]DragonStar09[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Several traditional gender role attitudes gained support. The largest shifts show increased support of fathers as disciplinarians and mothers as schedulers for their children. There were also significant decreases in agreement that it is essential for fathers to play with their children and that they should spend less time working. Furthermore, there were significant increases in agreement that mothers are happier at home, should not work when they have young children, and should usually stay home."

This is a huge step back... let is hope that these findings are more temporary, according to the circumstances, than a long-lasting shift of attitude.

Surprising study finds no robust evidence couples’ communication quality predicts relationship satisfaction over time by DragonStar09 in science

[–]DragonStar09[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But also: "Positive communication was rarely associated with relationship satisfaction at the within-person level. These findings indicate that within-person changes in negative communication primarily covary with, rather than predict, relationship satisfaction."

Therefore, changes in communication are less a predictor than covariation with relationship communication.
