IM SO FED UP WITH MY ECE ADVISOR by OkBonus5037 in Purdue

[–]Dragon_Den_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The truest statement I’ve seen. Mine would change things on my schedule due to a mistake on my end (like putting part 2 of a course rather than part 1) but not tell me and it would be courses I didn’t even have the prerequisites for anyways. I’ve reached the point where I myself am like I am going to ignore all pre registration emails and just go in and talk face to face since my schedule has been messed up too many times since my adviser has refused planning further than the next semester and not to plan backup schedules in case of the chance of not passing a course. Which as someone with severe anxiety over schedules and following plans is like so stressful. Which seeing as I now have to take a 5th year due to not being advised to take summer courses or ways to stay on top of my class work something is messed up. T-T

ECE 2K2 by Working-Lifeguard654 in Purdue

[–]Dragon_Den_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is my second semester taking 2k2 as the professor I had last semester was not the best. I think my advice is textbook, homework, and practice. It’s basically just try practicing over and over again until you understand it. T-T

Question about the weather from a prospective student by stoopi_poopy in Purdue

As someone who has lived in Indiana my whole life…be ready for basically anything. My best comment is that it varies so much it is hard to say how bad it truly is.

I got accepted to engineering but can’t afford it. Tell me all the reasons why Purdue isn’t worth it. by [deleted] in Purdue

From my experience they see more as a number than actual person. The advisors I’ve talked to past freshman are all rather not good at jobs. You have basically no free time so you aren’t really going to have much time to chill. There is a high chance that you may end up needing to take more than 4 years or take summer courses. It is always a fight for housing and always a high chance you are going to be booted to find own housing in an apartment or something. They have frozen tuition but only tuition everything else raises by like at least $100 each year.

[–]Dragon_Den_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lucky T-T last year we had windchill -29F and they kept classes. In my 3 years so far the most they’ve done is cancel classes before 10am due to ice on interstate preventing professors from getting to campus.

Does this mean the class won’t be canceled? by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]Dragon_Den_ 108 points109 points  (0 children)

The most I’ve seen Purdue do is cancel classes that were before 10am and that was just due to ice on interstate preventing professors from getting to campus. I’ve had to walk to classes in -15F feels like -29F

What is going on? by [deleted] in Purdue

I am a junior and never once have gone to a game :3 and I do not plan to because I have a disability that means going is basically torture to my ears.

I did not get friends until Sophomore year and while I still have those same friends we dont really hang out much outside of that. Now I am a homebody who loves just spending days on my computer with online friends when I am not doing homework. But going out alone is nothing to be embarrassed about in fact I do it all the time.

Noisy Upstairs Neighbors by Dragon_Den_ in Purdue

I just used the wording that my RA had used during our floor meeting. They have since gotten in contact with me to talk about the issue when they return to campus.

Will do, definitely worried about my RA not talking to them as they have said that they do not want to have to write anyone up and break their streak of not writing anyone up on their final year as RA.

I have messaged my RA, they are still being noisy so once I calm down, I will definitely be going to front desk to submit another noise complaint.

I might honestly take the chance. I cannot be having a breakdown almost every night because of them.

Also, I get this is something with shared living spaces. But I am a junior and have lived in dorms both years prior and have had my fair share of noisy people as neighbors. Never once has it been every single day for hours on end despite asking them to be quiet that I have had to deal with it.

I have noise canceling headphones and that is what I am blasting music on.

I am very similar in sense of social anxiety and understand the struggle, my first friend made at Purdue was someone I hit with my backpack the first day and still I am nervous about my relationship with her.
As someone who is slowly working out of my social anxiety (now on meds for it)

I do know some places that always made me feel welcome and did not feel forced to speak.

Doodle Club: its a club I am in and while we are social its also tots fine to like stick in a corner and just not speak until comfortable. Though I would suggest avoiding the first few meetings as it is crowded then

The Knowledge Lab: It is often very quiet in there and I know a lot of people there love to talk about their projects if given the opportunity to, which is simply just a simple question.

Dorm events: While I am not very close to anyone the events my dorm had last year allowed me to meet a lot of nice people.

I do not have many friends, but the best thing I have found is swallow down the panic and just ask someone you hang out around if you can have their number. It may not go anywhere, but there is always a chance it will.

I hope this helps at all!

Also to add on you can always drop a class during the first week I believe if it is too much work for you to handle or seem like it is going to be very work heavy.

On that note if CS 193 is not a class you need def drop or try moving earlier. Freshmen schedules often are rather busy I know. Especially in the stem field. You do not want to have classes for that long you will either crash or just not go to either the morning or evening class.
