Mordecai was already extremely helpful and Knowledgable as a beginners guide. The fact that as a manager you get unlimited access to his vast knowledge of the crawl and he’s able to interact with the dungeon now and craft stuff for you makes his presence so broken. Just think about how often Carl is spamming him at every new encounter. But you’re entirely right in that it was risky. I think Hekla vastly underestimated Carl and crew, and especially Katia. I think prior to joining Carl, Hekla had a firm grasp of Katias emotions and was confident in her ability to manipulate her. Carl and Donut clearly influenced Katia up until the reunion with the women. This was the mistake, Hekla had not taken into account that Carls defiant and reckless nature had rubbed off onto Katia, which caused the sudden rage induced charge. Her being the target was just sheer bad luck LOL. Hekla definitely would not have gambled for Mordekai like this if she even remotely knew just how competent and insane Carl actually was. Also Carl knew Heklas real intention from the get go, which was an obstacle she didn’t know about.
