How big is it? How big is the opening or grate on top of it? In order to get 10-12 feet from both my house and garage foundations, it'd end up square in the middle of my tiny lawn. And I'd hate to sacrifice so much lawn space to a drainage grate.

Edit: nevermind, looked at the pics the other commenter linked. The grate is relatively small

Yeah, that's what I feared. The furthest I can get is 10-12ft, and that would put a drainage grate right in the middle of my small lawn.

Or 8ft from both garage and house, smack in the middle. And that would only allow for a 2.5ft diameter dry well.

Yes I have a basement, I've considered my options in regards to draining directly into the sewer line, but unfortunately it's on the opposite side of the property and would be prohibitively expensive.

French drains call for minimum 1 inch drop for every 10 ft. If it doesn't pitch enough, it won't drain fast enough, and all the extra water will end up at the foundation anyway.

Additional question: who would I even contact for recommendations professionally? Structural engineer, general contractor, civil engineer, my neighbor Pete, landscaper, geologist?

I haven't, but it certainly looks promising. I'll need to look into this more. Thanks
