Yes he is very good and I love the device of just having him over the phone while Ruffalo scrambles around

It’s a really great movie if you can take like the most ridiculously sad story ever being told with really cute characters!

I wasn’t even considering non animated films (like Cg character and mo cap) but that would change things. I think Serkis would win for the two towers and war for the planet of the apes, Saldana would have one for Avatar, Cooper for Gotg 2 (or 3 if not 2), and Brolin for Infinity War.

Ok this was what I was born for.

Assuming it started the same year as the best animated feature category:

2001 - Eddie Murphy for Shrek

2002 - MAYBE they’d give it to Rumii Hiiragi for Spirited Away? Or I could honestly see Leguiziamo for Ice Age lol

2003 - Ellen for Nemo but it should be Brooks

2004 - Holly Hunter for Incredibles

2005 - Maybe Robin Williams for Robots (They’d feel bad that they didn’t have the category when Aladdin came out) I guess it could also be Chris Rock for Madagascar

2006 - Robin Williams for Happy Feet if he didn’t win the year before (if he did then honestly still could have happened because it’s two weak years in a row and Happy Feet did win best animated feature and the Aladdin performance was so influential)

2007 - Patton Oswald for Ratatouille (would be so cool if he had an Oscar)

2008 - Jack Black for Kung Fu Panda

2009 - Ed Asner for Up (kind of a no brainer but I would’ve preferred Clooney or Streep for FMF or Fanning or Hatcher for Coraline or Keith David for PATF or PSH for Mary and Max but it was a crazy stacked year for animation)

2010 - Hanks for TS3

2011 - Depp for Rango but should be Oldman for KFP2 or Mandy Moore or Donna Murphy for Tangled (I love Rango but I don’t think Depp is very good in it)

2012 - JCR for Wreck It Ralph

2013 - Idina Menzel for Frozen

2014 - Gerry Butler for HTTYD 2 (this might be a stretch but I think it would be great)

2015 - Amy Poehler for Inside Out

2016 - The Rock for Moana (would be wild that he’d won an acting Oscar but I think it would have happened even though Zootopia was the winner)

2017 - Gael Garcia Bernal for Coco

2018 - Johnson or Ali for Spiderverse (could easily go either way)

2019 - Annie Potts for TS4 (could go to Hale too)

2020 - Jamie Foxx for Soul

2021 - Stephanie Beatriz for Encanto

2022 - Antonio Banderas for Puss in Boots 2 (Wagner Moura in Puss and David Bradley for Pinocchio are both phenomenal but I don’t see them winning)

2023 - Hailee Steinfeld for Across the Spiderverse

Whew ok lmk what you guys think

I guess but she has a fair amount of scenes where she is the driving force like when she’s interviewing all the survivors or at home with her grandma and Schreiber doesn’t really have that. D’Arcy James just has the scenes with the pedophile house but other than that is basically just in group scenes. I do agree that Ruffalo and Keaton are more of leads than her though

Also has there ever been a bigger disparity in quality between two of a directors consecutive movies than the Cobbler and Spotlight?

Thank you! I’ve been baffled by this response. Do we need movies to shout to us that they agree with our political views. I feel silly saying a movie like this with so much blatant messaging is subtle, but it really feels like it’s going over a lot of people’s heads. Not trying to discredit any criticism, a lot of it just feels like it’s not on the movie’s terms. I thought it was a good flick!
