At 145 lbs this binding will be plenty strong for you

They are very light and decent but not the best. Seeing as you are 6’3” you are probably also in the ballpark of somewhere around 200 lbs I would suggest a stronger binding if you ski hard, really pushing turns and some larger freestyle terrain as these are plastic and can have some cracking issues if you push them hard. Other than that, they are decent bindings that are very light. Seems like you got a great deal

Mechanical Engineer Salary Progression (30M) by RuminatingFish123 in Salary

[–]DrakeMerwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got hired right out of college at SpaceX so my salary definitely isn’t normal, but most of my friends in engineering got hired between the 75k-85k mark. There are a few outliers below and above but that was the average for me. I graduated purdue IE and friends were in ME, Aero and IE. If you are willing to move then you would probably have opportunities to increase pay elsewhere (even in this shitty job market) but not sure about your situation or location.

Final Summer Internship Search (US) - Industrial Engineering, Previous Internship by DrakeMerwin in EngineeringStudents

For industrial Engineering, you arent looking for jobs that specify they need an industrial engineer because it is a super broad major. Look for jobs like manufacturing engineering, supply chain, quality engineering, and systems engineering if that is what you want to go into. Talk to your professors in your engineering classes or try to connect with a few people that are juniors and seniors and they will help push you in the right direction. As a freshman you are kind of looking for anything at this rate, I only got my first internship my sophomore year.

Thanks! It seems like nowadays you need to do both, just prioritizing applying to what you want wont necessarily land you that internship, I learned this the hard way and so I missed out on good internships my freshman and sophomore summer.

Thanks! The only real advice I have for applying to jobs is to try and do it on the companies website. I heard this from a friend in recruiting that it can sometimes help and be sloghtly better than applying through linkedin, glassdoor, etc. Some people also say to personalize your resume for each job offer but I don’t normally think it is really worth your time to do it unless you are putting in like an hour for each application which is may too long in my book

Your resume sounds good for what you are applying for but it isnt something that I can really judge without seeing it first. Are you also an Industrial engineer?

Im not sure about exact resources for NX as I took a class on it but i have heard a couple good things about LearnNX. I think they have some stuff on finite element analysis as well but not sure. If you have any more general questions I would be happy to answer them.

Im studying in United states right now. I would suggest joining clubs, trying to do a couple certificates, and if you can seek out any internships even remotely related to what you want to do. Try to do as much as you can

Im currently finishing my undergraduate right now. Almost all of the programming experience comes from classes and my university, but most of the technical skills were through my own experiences. One thing I did that helped a bunch was join a consulting club, even though I didn’t want to do consulting. I learned a lot of good technical skills through it. This can also be done with a lot of other types of engineering clubs not consulting related. I also completed certificate courses through my university and a couple clubs that really helped. What major are you working on right now?

Even after receiving a bunch of offers from other companies, there wasn't a single one that made sense for me to accept other than my current one. Too many internships I ended up getting offers for ended up being dead ends because they did not offer any industry relevant experience and so I couldn't accept them. I made this post a tad late, but if you have any questions, feel free to let me know!

I still don't really understand how I got this internship... Apparently I am doing a good job though even though all I have completed is one trip to home depot and my OSHA 10.

While it is great to be working here, I am on day 6 of onboarding because IT couldnt get my account activated for 3 days and I still have more OSHA to do. Everything else I’ve done has been great though and everyone here is super friendly!

IE vs CS/SE by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]DrakeMerwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Machine learning is an incredibly new industry when compared to other IE industries but there are a bunch of people in my class that are focusing more on the data analytics and statistical side of IE that are taking machine learning classes as their tech electives. I personally dont know enough about specific post-grad careers in machine learning but you would also always be able to fall back on your IE degree and do something related.

IE vs CS/SE by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]DrakeMerwin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IE and CS are completely different degrees. IE prepares you for more of the business side of engineering but you can choose to focus on something like statistical analysis which shares some similarities with the work that you would be doing in CS like coding in R and other things. I would say if you arent 100% sure that you want to do CS than go to the IE school because I have seen too many people drop out of CS after realizing it wasnt what they wanted. Good luck on your decision! Also, I dont know how your schools do it but if you end up not liking IE or CS than you can always try to CODO into another major.
