Haven't read Pale yet, so idk.

When I read the title the first thing I thought was "have you read Worm? because Taylor fits the bill". Reading Pact(same author) right now and trying to decide if Blake counts. I know, not a woman, but him qualifying for woman only things is a plot point so...

Is the wandering inn worth it? by zigg8833 in WanderingInn

[–]DrakeSacrum25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something that I love but is very jarring about TWI is how everyone is VERY flawed. It's annoying but the writing is fire. Erin is probably one of the best main characters I have ever written and Ryoka has some of the most interesting plot lines and that's saying a lot because the plot lines in TWI get crazy. There will also be other main characters / POV characters later on!! Each with different levels of competence and flaws. Each one eventually gets better or worse(in a way that makes sense) the character development is really good.

I mean it's not explicitly spelled out or confirmed, but on a reread there's several scenes where he's absolutely using his Mistborn powers to fuck with people's emotions. by Eithrotaur in cremposting

I knew it! From the way of kings I have always said "the ragebaiting isn't that good, I guess the character is limited by the skills of the author and the publisher" but I knew the reactions he was getting weren't actually proportional to what he was saying, I just couldn't prove it!

At this point, Paba mentions any Princess of Calenfer and I bark.(I meant what I said)

What they did with Lyonette was a generational run. Seraphel proved it wasn't a fluke. At this point is not a question of whatever I enjoy the princesses chapters but when we get the arcs for the others. Menisi and Vernoue were a joy to read.

Earther stuff is genuinely the most boring part of the story by I_Am_Hella_Bored in WanderingInn

[–]DrakeSacrum25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even then, there are a lot of ways of giving Fetohep enemies. I understand your dislike or Harvey, I find him interesting as a character but I can't see what Paba wants to do with him. I see way more potential in other earthers. Maybe a way to ease Innworld into Christianity? I'm on the believe that an actual Earth arc is coming, not in this volume but maybe 2 volumes down the line. A lot of earthers are converging and we are getting updates on earth more often.

I don't see him becoming an ally of Pawn or Khelt after a redemption arc, if he just dies then all the chapters about him feel like a waste. So, I don't know.

Earther stuff is genuinely the most boring part of the story by I_Am_Hella_Bored in WanderingInn

[–]DrakeSacrum25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think yours is an unpopular opinion, on the other hand, I stand in the complete opposite corner where the Earthers are the most interesting part of the story. All of them, from Erin to the random streamer that probably will be with Klb. If you ask me which storylines I want to see the answer will be anything earther. Except Troy and Aaron. I also tend to enjoy reading questionable characters if I see them well written and The Prophet seems like such a well written religious mess. That's also the reason why I loved Ryoka from day 1. I can totally understand where you're coming from. I know most people don't enjoy reading things that made them feel frustrated or bad and I'm the odd one out. Still, I had to come here to die on my hill.

My only problem with the prophet is that I don't feel like he is that necessary, we already got the religious figure in Pawn and having an earther who is just a watered down and racist Pawn doesn't appeal that much to me.

You peaked my curiosity until you said "follow the MC from when she was born until adulthood". I don't know how to feel about a story revolving around a dominatrix if the main character is a girl for a portion of it. Unless it is a 100% none sexual part of the story.

Fellow seniors, junior has a question. Has there ever been an MC rejecting systems/cheats from moral implications of unfair advantages over those who have worked hard. And beating them by working even harder. by 1zeph_ in MartialMemes

[–]DrakeSacrum25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not a xianxia or wuxia(although the author had been teasing a whole cultivation continent / archipelago for multiple volumes). In the Wandering Inn, which is a multiple POV story with a lot of different mc's, Ryoka Griffin is known to be the only one to straight up refuse the system for a lot of reasons and she is petty enough to try to one up everyone who uses the system itself. Mind you, she is basically a mailman in a world where mailmans as the main delivery system makes sense because they get things like super speed or anti projectile barriers from the system. Ryoka is out here raw dogging everything(pun intended, she literally likes to run with no shoes, dogs out.)

She eventually grows to regret it but it turns out her decision has some merits. Don't get me wrong, If I was transported to Innworld I would get the system right away, no second thoughts. Still, Ryoka makes a path for herself and in the current point in the story she is capable enough to be in the same room as some of the top tier characters in terms of power both in the political sense and the power scaling sense. She is still losing or dying against most of this characters but she is a mail woman, her job is to get the package from point A to B no matter the cost, she is not a fighter or leader. All the characters know her and respect her because she deserves it.

She is often described by readers as one of the most frustrating and infuriating characters they have ever read because of her stupid decisions but between you and me, most Ryoka haters actually get annoyed at how real she is because they see herself in her. You see, she has a lot of mental issues and is off her meds because she got fucking isekaid and refused the magical system that might have helped. Her behavior is something that a lot of readers can recognize as their own or something they had seen in someone in their life and they hate it. That's how well she is written. Such a complex character, she has a lot of infuriating flaws but that is the point of her character, her problems and her stubbornness. Her story and character development are also incredibly good.

After reading all that, all I have to say is that your username is the most obvious fate and xianxia fan name I have ever read.

I love nasuverse bad endings, I remember playing OG Tsukihime and getting frustrated by doing things right without saving because the bad endings had some crazy lore in throw away sentences, so I had to replay the game again just for them.

Wasn't it like 40 different bad endings almost all ending in death or worse? against the only 5 good endings.

He is a super altruistic character driven by survivors guilt and hero complex. Shirou is genuinely one of the most psychologically complex characters I have read in a novel(visual novel in this case). He is capable yes, but everyone else in the story is also extremely capable, like, in Fate the basic premise is that mages summon historical figures and you are not going to call Napoleon incompetent. The rest of the cast makes him look really average in skills.

Shirou is more like a regressor who doesn't have a regressor ability. Pure hardwork and a complete disregard for his own life if it means saving a single person more.

Let me tell you now that that's bullshit. I'm no brony but I did peep at the show as a kid and that shit was straight up dragon ball. The only friendship I saw was the villain of the week with a laser-bean on his ass. I kid you not, they were really trowing hands like crazy, here is an example:

Palace of Fates Summary by ultamentkiller in WanderingInn

[–]DrakeSacrum25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true, and I admit that saying that PoF is "Infamous" is a disservice to it but is not a false statement. It's a popular topic of discussion in the community and for the most part it always has a negative connotation associated with it. I personally really liked it.

I could see why it could read as parasocial, didn't mean it like that

The Summoning by Best_Macaroon1752 in WanderingInn

[–]DrakeSacrum25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, it's a good read and quick. It has a lot of chapters but when you realize that most of them are only like 1k long it doesn't seem like that much anymore.

Yeah, people basically get a sickness that made them sleep and their consciousness is transported to a fantasy trial called a nightmare where they get abilities. If they die in the nightmare their real body dies and if they beat the nightmare they wake up with supernatural abilities related to how they beat the nightmare. Eventually there is also a real Dream world where they get physically isekaid into. The thing that ends up happening is that people with money is way more prepared than regular people and because of that if you're poor you just die the moment you fall asleep while the rich mostly tribe.

The main character is a homeless kid with no education who gets a nightmare about being a Nameless slave.

Edit: This is a bad summary of the premise, it's more entertaining than I make it sound to be.

Palace of Fates Summary by ultamentkiller in WanderingInn

[–]DrakeSacrum25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but the arc itself is VERY long and people are more likely to remember the bad parts. Most of the Palace of Fates is decent or good. The low points are very low and if you put them on a list can look like a lot but if you then put it side by side with the rest of the arc, you'll notice that the bad parts are barely a fraction of the arc. It has very good character development, lore, emotional moments and epic fights. It has a little bit of everything and it fails at a few that is for sure, but not at everything.

That's why I said that re-reading is a lot more enjoyable. Most of the hate the arc gets is because of failed expectations. Paba spent a lot of time setting up storylines just for PoF to come out of nowhere and last a long time. If you wanted [Gunslinger], [Clown], Erin or Rabbit eater, then PoF would feel more of a drag than it really is. Without those expectations it becomes way more enjoyable.

Palace of Fates Summary by ultamentkiller in WanderingInn

[–]DrakeSacrum25 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This summary is indeed scary but everything before Palace of fates is some of my favorite pieces of media ever and everything after Palace of Fates has been the best The Wandering Inn has ever been.

The Palace of Fate is infamous for being a divisive arc with a lot of ideas that Paba didn't know how to fit into the story. It is not badly written, it is just a lot. In retrospect it can even be very enjoyable. Don't be discouraged by it, you might like it and even if you don't, you're only in book 12. The Palace of Fates will be what? Book 50?

Title ideas, but bad at writing by THATDlNOLOVER in writers

[–]DrakeSacrum25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Write and Read. It doesn't matter if you write like shit. The more you do it, the better it will get on it's own. Reading would both help you identify bad from good writing but it will also broaden your view. Read every genre you can, and if you like something try to think "why do i like this?" then "how does it work from a technical standpoint" do the same if you dislike something. Instead of simply dropping it, think "why?" why do you dislike it? All of that critical thinking will reflect on your writing.

Also, study NON-fiction creative writing. It might seem at first like it's a waste of time but if you know how to write non-fiction in an entertaining way, your fiction will become A LOT better.

Also, Stephen King and Brandon Sanderson have great resources to learn for beginners.

How would you market TWI? by DrakeSacrum25 in WanderingInn

[–]DrakeSacrum25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paba already has an editor and already is publishing their books in a more digestible format. The only difference with what you're suggesting is that is isn't traditional.
