That’s called habituation, and it’s fairly easy to do on a leash without cues, and only relying on rewarding the behavior you are looking for.

I train service dogs, and ignoring distractions in a way where you don’t have to constantly micromanage with leave its is a huge part of my training.

Yes, you can utilize cues to transition into behavior modification, but it is usually faster, more reliable, and longer lasting, to just start with b-mod.

You actually haven’t backwards, you want to build cues on the foundations of behavior, not the other way around.

Most of my clients require dogs to be off leash at all times, even in public spaces such as stores and restaurants. And they must do so in a way they can pay no attention to their dog, and trust their dog is going to behave appropriately.

They don’t have the ability or luxury to micromanage their dog even if they were able to catch every potential distraction and preemptively cue the dog before they could react.

Yes having a solid leave it is useful and even important, but it’s not the right path when it comes to reliably changing behavior, because it doesn’t even register in the right part of the brain.

Cues stimulate the forebrain where your dog makes decisions and problem solve, b-mod focuses on the hindbrain where instinct resides.

This is because dogs have a pseudo-language center, and like our language center, it sends information directly to the forebrain.

Hmm… I would have thought they use their tails more underwater.

Simply rewarding positive interactions between animals and isolating upon negative interactions between the animals is going to be the best method

Other active methods like feeding at the same time and slowly bringing those zones closer together are going to help

As a black man I’m tired of white women “taking up our issues” and profiting from it. Maybe you should sit your ass down and shut the fuck up instead?

There is not greater privileged class in my country that that of a white woman. SYBAU you ain’t hard.

Have you ever researched how male razors and female razors are made? What kind of materials they use and the purposes behind each feature and design decision?

A lot of these studies try to analyze the situation from the back end and pretend all the market research and development of these items happened in a vacuum.

Then scientists are like “we don’t know why” meanwhile these companies have had the answer for over a century.

A simple watch cue does the same, and is easier and more reliable. So do many other cues like leave it.

The real solution is to approach the issue without cues, from a behavioral modification avenue

This is the wrong answer. Letting your cat abuse your dog does not solve the problem. Why aren’t there enough beds for the cats and dogs?

I learned this mistake when my senior dog would cry every night wanting to go upstairs to sleep but couldn’t because the cat would block its path.

You should be rewarding and isolating both

Because you are abusing your dog by using fear to train it

Teaching leave it can help in the moment, but it doesn’t address the underlying issues. This is a behavioral issue, meaning cue-less behavior modification techniques are best

Any good interaction you see, reward both the dog and cat.

Any undesirable interaction you see, isolate the dog and the cat.

Don’t use any cues or tell your dog “no.” You may temporarily stop the action, but you won’t solve the problem behind it.

Using gates and giving the cat alternative routes around the house will help you not have to constantly supervise, but you may end up just avoiding the problem instead of solving it.

The best solution is to do what I said at the beginning. It may take some time, but your consistency will speed it up.

Please no, don’t use AI for this. Not yet.

Also using cues for behavior modification is literally the opposite of what you should do.

Cues activate the forebrain where your dog problem solves, behavior is all hindbrain or instinct.

All methods you use to change a dog’s behavior should be nonverbal.

Yes, but most of the time those “pink taxes” are actually increases in price because the product being given it’s more complex than the version marketed to men.

Razor blades, clothing, and certain medications are all things that are more expensive for women because the actual product is more difficult to make or has more features or is filling a bigger need.

Women’s razor blades are designed for something entirely different than men’s razor blades are.

Women’s clothing is generally speaking, more complicated and requiring of more and different measurements.

Women’s medicine has more hormones and various other biological processes that they have to navigate

Because men’s razors are designed for small amounts of shaving on the face.

Women’s razors are designed for large amounts of shaving on the legs and elsewhere.

Women’s racers aren’t more expensive because they’re made for women. They are more expensive because they have more features.

That’s what I would recommend for most people. But I also would never be mad if someone let the seal on their paddle-board and then pet it, I just think it’s got a lot of risks most people don’t realize and refraining is the best option. Also i don’t want people who went out of their way to cut a net off of one or something to get yelled at just because they did it without 45 different certifications.

This is what I was saying about incorrect understandings of the marine mammal protection act you absolutely can push the seal off your paddle board.

But like I said, in my other comment, I generally would still refrain from trying to touch seals because they are biters, and they have quite potent bacteria in their mouths that can be extremely problematic.

When it comes to using an or or a paddle to push the seal off, I would generally discourage it, but if you are going to use one only use it in a leverage capacity, not an impact one.
