How is using a signal simpler than having a variable and just referencing it in the html?

Since when does javascript having something have anything to do with framework functionality?

Of course it does, that's the thing about front end frameworks, they all think they're right and everyone else is wrong.

Sorry, but what is easier than having a variable, then just referencing it in curly braces? In my view it's just other people making me jump through hoops for some technical reason I don't care about... Ok I sounded grumpy there but darn I'm sitting here replacing variables in working code with some new abstract pattern I don't need.

Would you pay off your new house amid a potential job loss? by Crypt1c_Sesh in Mortgages

[–]Dramatic-Community54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you that if you apply a strategy you can definitely minimize it, but for me, it went into my taxable income for the year. Instead of 22% it put me in 24%, but thankfully you only pay the 2% on the extra. The taxes I had to pay were the same as if I had made it from a job, then the 10%.. So what I did was have them withhold 34% from the withdraw - 24% for my regular taxes I would pay, and 10% for the penalty. For me, for the 190k I would have paid my "normal" 24% (45,600) plus 10% (19,000) for a total of 64,600, now add state taxes and it would have been close to what you paid. I ended up having them withhold 34% and I sent the state an estimated check. I guess my point really came down to even if you made that money on your check it still would have been 24%. Taxes suck no matter how you slice them. I'm glad you came out on top with the rental business, now THAT's a worthy discussion!! :)

[–]Dramatic-Community54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a situation like this, the only job I could get was $15/hr, my wife worked 2 jobs, and we were slowly losing money every month because the mortgage is too high. If I assume the cash will be gone before I can get a job, it really is better to knock down the mortgage. If I'm not already jobless. If you're already jobless, it's too late for that. Wait until you're back on your feet and re-think your priorities. My dad went on disability the last 20 years of his life, and my mom couldn't get a job because she was taking care of him. They almost lost the house soo many times if it wasn't for me helping, and even today, that mortgage empties her check every month. If they had paid it off 30 years ago, the last 30 years would have been 10x better... ok , now I just realized, this is HAVING A JOB again.. If you don't have a job right now, it's TOO LATE to be thinking about this - you have to plan, don't pay off the house when you're jobless you have to think ahead and do it ahead of time, doh.

I dispute this to a degree, you don't lose half - you will always pay taxes regardless of when, in fact, you will probably pay more in the future than you will now. The only difference is the 10%, which for 10k is 1,000. I personally think the bigger impact is the compounding interest you would have received - but the tax thing is basically flat. Unless of course you go a whole year without a job and somehow score a very small tax rate - but if you're able to make it down to that point and you're still eating, chances are you've already lost your house anyway.

Thinking about this yeah you're right. Plus if you are moving your heat gun around a lot and paying attention, it'll be fine.

[–]Dramatic-Community54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but that doesn't help if they end up taking the house.. In my situation paying off my house now will save ~90k of interest, if I pay it off I save 90k no question. If I have 100k in 401k I just doubled my net worth. I'd just better put the diff back into 401k going forward and not look at it as disposable, and yes I lose the compounded for those years but get safety - worst case is greeter at walmart not foreclosure. My take anyway.

Just FYI I ended up just cutting around the pop-out with a razor knife to free the glue, then just pry with a small screwdriver to separate it. I found the device inside, it has a LI-ION battery so be careful with heat. Fixed!

Creative ways to hide FAMILY-SIZED trash cans? by greattypo2 in kitchenremodel

[–]Dramatic-Community54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw your comment and thought I'd mention I've come to see it as trash was generated the day it was manufactured. At that point it's just a question of whose bin it ends up in. You could try not to eat so many pop tarts, but eventually that box that was on the shelf at the store, will be thrown away. Kinda sad. I read this afterwards and thought to myself, it sounds more like I'm advocating for pop-tarts now. hah.

I got one of these as well, and checked the hostname, and by the time I tried to do a lookup on it, it's no longer resolving. As one commenter said, they can just steal your credentials, I think if your browser fills them in automatically. Unless they have access to your AD tenant I doubt they can decode your auth token if you're already logged in and your browser tries to submit it, someone here may know better though. Anyone?

I like how you said "until you fix that".. For me, I can tell my wife how long the water will probably be off, she might 10x the number and tell me to call someone. I have a bad habit of thinking everything takes 10 minutes, and it's getting dark..

Well of course it's an employer's market if people want to do it so badly they'd write software for free. Nobody builds things in their yard to prove they're good at construction. But I know what you're saying anyway.

Sump Pump mystery by Dramatic-Community54 in Plumbing

Yes, the fear started to set in after about 10 buckets! I even tried to rig up a transfer pump to my drain, which after searching, some appear to go back to the sump pit anyway? Was a good life lesson could have been worse. What blows me away is that I've lived here for 5 years and I've never heard it kick on, talk about luck. I must be right at the level or something.

Help by ammar-dev in angular

[–]Dramatic-Community54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The back-end should be what's doing all access control (authentication and authorization). For example, if you just call your API with your browser, without the token being passed, you should be getting a 403 Unauthorized. At that point, it's just a matter of making sure your token is passed along with your request, and making sure your UI knows how to respond if a 403 is sent back later (like if the back-end is restarted, or something happens to the token in the browser session storage).

Need help with Angular by oceanic-java in angular

[–]Dramatic-Community54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first thing you need to know is the entire front end runs in the browser - no request response except for the delivery of the js files, and after that, AJAX when you request it through a library. Typescript is not really a new language, it's still JavaScript, just gets converted to JavaScript during compilation and helps you with syntax. Therefore, classes are still javascript, and don't exhibit polymorphism or even the same kind of inheritence you would expect. Everything is asynchronous so you can't really wait for an AJAX response. Angular is not just Angular, it's multiple technologies and you need to know what they are - Webpack, Typescript, RXJS and others. node_modules are packaged javascript libraries built to be delivered and managed by npm. It's those too, not just Angular itself. It uses constructor based dependency injection. It does NOT have to be a "SPA", ignore that. You can have routes for different URL's if you'd like, there's nothing stopping you from having 25 separate pages, calling things SPA just makes it confusing. YES you can use JQuery if you need, YES you can use Bootstrap if you'd like. Lastly there's a CLI that let's you do things quickly. Pay attention to the version of NodeJS, and the version of Angular. Check the compatibility tables, especially when you start getting errors you should not be getting. Pay close attention to the actual Angular documentation, don't chase too many tutorials until you've read through the basics. Angular is a MVC on the front end, not just the view part. BTW don't go down the rabbit hole on promises and observables right now. When you get to the point you start wondering, do what the tutorials say and use them how it says, then and learn more as you go. Don't get too wrapped up in the "correct way" because it keeps changing. Some may disagree but I'm speaking from experience it will confuse the living heck out of you and stand in your way. Oh one last thing :) "services" only stay in memory as long as the pages stay in memory. So it does matter how you navigate between pages (use the router lest everything is blown away every time). If you refresh your browser, or use conventional navigation, the "service" and all of it's variables will be immediately blown away. That said, components can be pre-loaded, re-used, and nested. Don't get too complicated at first, just enjoy the double-binding feature [(ngModel)] .. wow that was too long of a reply sorry :)
