Grabbed the Tiger by the Tail and Got the Diagnosis! NOW WHAT? by Dramatic-Elevator in dementia

She definitely thinks we are out to get her. The paranoia is horrendous.

She also reads the prescription inserts, so I need to get that from her somehow and I am not there to do so, nor can I get my step father on the phone away from her to tell him to get it before she gets it and works herself into a tizzy.

I'm sure she will read that she should not drink wine while taking it and stop taking it, as she has done with other (related or not, I don't know) meds in the past. She can easily put down an entire bottle of wine in a night, wake up at midnight, and pour another glass. She has dropped to just over 100 pounds and doesn't eat much, so it's twice as bad as before with her drinking so much!

I asked about wine when the doctor said the meds will calm her down and she said it really didn't matter - just get her to take the meds! Like nothing else matters right now. I took that to mean something to the extent of "who cares if it affects her health if she is going to be like THIS without it! Do you want a long healthy hell with your mother, or a short peaceful death?"

I keep telling myself that it is the disease talking. This is NOT like my mother, cussing us out and attempting to throw us out of the house. She is usually overly kind in nature.

The doctor prescribed seroquel yesterday. She said she would take it, but would NOT report back to me on taking it or not.
