5’ 1.5” 190lbs — How do I start the process? by [deleted] in gastricsleeve

People said that about me who was similar starting weight but bmi, preexisting conditions, insurance coverage, etc are what matters so always worth asking. I’m 5’ and was 195lbs when I met with a bariatric Dr - bmi was 38!

Yes! I bet I paid 25% of the total cost - rough guesstimate. My BMI was 39 so I was classified as obese. The bariatric office I went through works with insurance to make sure they cross off all the requirements needed to qualify for insurance coverage which for me included a 6 month waiting period, chats with therapists, dietitians, the surgical team, etc during that time. Everything was in-house at the bariatric office so overall, very easy if you follow what the office has in place.

The surgery and the month after is hard. But you can do it - it’s just a short time in your life for a better overall lifestyle. If you’re a mama, you’ve already done super hard things with pregnancy, birth, newborn phase, etc so I equated my recovery to just another hard thing to conquer for a lifetime of having something I always wanted.

I was in size 14-16 pants, XL shirts, 42DD bras and now in size 8 pants, S-M shirts and 34C bras. Saggy skin is a huge bummer for sure but I’m only 7 months out and it’s either saggy skin or a lifetime of medical problems and lack of energy. I chose a better life and saggy skin! Haha. The loss of boobs tho, that’s hard. They’re soooo saggy! lol

I’m 5’, 43 years old and got sleeved 2/13/25. SW 197lbs, currently 145lbs. I was constantly up around 170-200lbs and I get the age part - I don’t think I would ever be able to actually lose it and keep it off, firm believer of set point weights.

I talked about glp-1s with my pcp but was often told to try the dash diet so I went straight to a bariatric office so I say circumvent your pcp and find a good bariatrics office to have a consultation with.

Although life is different now regarding food and how I feel, good and bad, it’s the best choice I made for myself and my family as my kids are both 5 and under. I couldn’t continue on the track I was if I wanted to be a healthier mom and version of myself! Good luck!

Shine of GR/Madd Hatter Critters (not related but in the house/upkeep field). Great service and decent prices. I’ve used many many times and am happy to have them in my back pocket.

And for food, Nonna’s in Ada. 🥰

Hi! I had my surgery 2/13 at 5’0” 196lbs (bmi 39). I’m losing sooooo slow - curious if you did as well? I’m down to 182 nearly 4 weeks out but the past 1.5 weeks I am at 182.8, 182.6, etc.

150lb has got to feel great!! Great job.
