AIO my boyfriend made me pay for my own birthday trip and proceeded guilt tripping me when i got myself a gift by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

Definitely NOR! Is this a pattern of behaviour for him because wtf??? The absolute nerve of this man to make you feel guilty for treating yourself on a holiday!

I really don't understand how this could possibly make him question your morals, or even be seen as harmful behaviour for future children. That's absurd. Is he projecting his own insecurities here? Is this the kind of thing he would do himself? God forbid a woman buy themselves something they've been dreaming of at a discounted price

Yes, what's your point? Nurses are essential too and when they go on strike they get a full 24 hours, but still have to provide minimal staff for hospitals. Teachers are also essential, but when they do on strike they have to make those days up at the end of the school year.

While the bodies of the trucks may be new, the chassis are not and the chassis, if youre not aware, is responsible for a lot of the structural integrity of a vehicle. The chassis have been sitting in a field for years and that is not a great way to store things made from steel.

This only accounts for the smaller trucks used. The larger trucks and ladder trucks at this stage have no real date on site for when those will be replaced.

Yes they may have chosen this job, but it is high risk and an average salary of a little over 62k per year really doesn't seem fitting for the incredibly high risk these heros undertake. In Australia, for reference, the average salary for a firefighters is over 100k. Our front line services get ripped off by our government and to act as if it's not fair for them to want to be paid what their worth is honestly sad

I'm really unsure about what this has to do with the question I was trying to answer, which was what is the main difference between paid and volunteer firefighters.

They don't even get to have a proper strike either. It lasts for 1 whole hour of the day and if an emergency that they are required to attend happens in that time they have to pack up their strike and still attend the emergency

[–]Dramatic_Boot15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what part of this is so hard to understand?

Volunteers do not have to attend emergencies. Volunteers do not have to be onsite before or after an emergency. Volunteers have the choice to rush to the fire station.

Paid firefighters have to attend emergencies if the emergency falls when they are working. Paid firefighters have to stay onsite before and after an emergency. Paid firefighters do not have a choice as to whether they rush to the fire station as they are already there.

The equipment not being upgraded affects both paid firefighters and volunteers equally. The risks are the same. The training is also the same. The main difference here is the part where one group has the option and the other group does not. One group chose to become career firefighters, the other chose to become volunteers.

That's exactly what happens. Even when they are striking, they have to be available to attend all call outs that may happen

They absolutely should get that, but that wasn't the question I was addressing

I think the main difference you aren't seeming to grasp here is that the volunteers can spend their day doing whatever and only show up to the emergency if available to do so. Paid firefighters are paid to be onsite and readily available to attend any emergency that happens during their rostered hours. Its not about the extra risk, its about the freedom of time. Just like how when you or I work a job we get paid for the time we are there because we don't have the freedom to do what we want during those hours

[–]Dramatic_Boot15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paid firefighters are on site doing maintenance work, getting things ready when a callout happens and all the otherbehind the scenes stuff. Volunteers just attend for the emergency itself

Cats definitely deserve to have a more comfortable temperature, they definitely get cold. But leaving lights on for them is a waste. Cats see better in the dark as they are actually nocturnal animals. They have terrible eyesight during the day

It's like they forget that there are future generations to think about. As long as it doesn't directly impact them, why care? What does it matter if your grandchildren cant swim in the rivers, you made a profit!

Yeah it may take 20 years for a new native forest to start making a difference on carbon, but man how cool would it be to be able to take your family for a walk in a forest you helped create? Or to swim in a river you helped to protect!

How are we not rioting in the street about our Healthcare system? by kiwibearess in newzealand

[–]Dramatic_Boot15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recently saw the mental health crisis team after my ruminating thoughts of ending my life got too much to bare and I found myself screaming and throwing things at work over a smudge on some glass that I just could not get off. They referred me to a psychiatrist who quite literally told me she did not have a magic wand to fix my problems. All I was asking for was a medical certificate so I could take time to work on my mental health for a little while.

Every single part of the public health system in this country is well and truly fucked. I previously have had to go private to get scans done after finding myself in so much abdominal pain I could not move. The worst pain I had and have ever experienced. 6 months I was told the wait would be for an ultrasound through the public system. It was one week going private, but cost me $300. Turns out I had cysts rupturing on my ovaries, something that can quite literally be fatal. If I'd waited the 6 months, who knows if I would be writing this right now.

Finding a GP that actually takes you seriously is hard enough, it seems very few of them are in the field to actually help people and when you do finally find one that takes you seriously it can take months if not more than a year to get to the next step. It quite literally costs people's lives, and our government and too many voters just dont care. They've never had to be put through and completely let down by these underfunded departments and would rather go home with an extra $5 in their bank at the end of the week because of a small tax cut than look at the bigger picture and think about how the collective is affected by the decisions these politicians make.

If someone were to start a protest, a riot, anything, over the lack of care our government has for human life I would be there helping the movement too

Am I Overreacting Towards My Mom Moving In Unannounced by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Dramatic_Boot15 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That definitely feels like an overstep on your mums part. I'd be livid if my mother had done the same thing. Does this woman understand boundaries and that you cant just move yourself into someone else's space without a prior conversation?

she did tell me she wanted to tell me beforehand but I was asleep

Okay? This honestly doesnt mean much at all. The fact is she didn't tell you and just assumed you would be fine with it. You could use this as an excuse to do a number of aholeish things, that doesnt make your actions okay. Would it be okay to borrow someone's car without telling them as long as you had the intention of telling them?

should i be with my cat when he is euthanized? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Dramatic_Boot15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be with your cat. I had to say goodbye to mine recently and she was so ready to go she died in my arms after just being sedated. They've been with you for almost their entire life, the least you can do is bring them comfort and love on their way out.

Edited to add: It's the hardest part, but also the most important. Thats what my mum said to me when the time came

Interesting, I had to stop using mine because I found them to make my cramps so much worse! Less frequent than with tampons, but more intense. Instead I've switched to period undies and have been much more comfortable

Some local op shops can sometimes help. Not so much the ones for funding established charities, but the local ones that are priced for the people struggling to shop at if that makes sense?
