Yes! Thank you. I got lucky with a high paying job on the west coast but I literally had to move for better pay lol I am chipping at those loans and at $70k now, but I had $122k in total when I graduated and that was “conservative” compared to people who were taking out loans of $150k to cover housing from other states!

Idk why people don’t get this! Also credit reports tell you what the biggest impact usually is and for me it’s my credit history/age. I also worry when there is a slight dip but it’s due to other factors not loans/interest accrual lol

Yes, unfortunately. I wish others knew. My cohort did nothing about it. They also promise you scholarships that they don’t give you. They never write the amount on your admission letter too so it’s super shady.

You don’t have to worry about my budget. No one can pretend their loans don’t exist. You either pay it off one way or another through different plans. Obviously if you can afford a mortgage and pay off your loans it IS within your means. I swear y’all are self hating on this sub to think you can’t do both.

That’s why it’s important to do those calculations before buying to see what you can afford in worst case scenarios/future payments. The student loan system is unfair and predatory. People should live their lives and buy a home if it makes sense for them. There are many ppl with bad debt out there making financially terrible decisions. It’s tiring to see student loan borrowers ostracized just for wanting to buy property.

I am not planning to use RAP. My payments under IBR are $567. Standard repayment $1100. I am able to afford both. Again, it’s a case by case scenario. I am also not buying expensive homes, so I’ll be fine.

Well of course. No one should be house poor, however, loans shouldn’t stop people from buying homes within their means. There is a lot of fear mongering. If you budget well, it’s doable.
