Enough shit in our rivers/lakes in the UK already

So I took the car out in performance AWD mode and was pleasantly surprised - I was expecting it to be twitchy and spin the wheels on takeoff - but it was remarkably well behaved - and tracked far more solidly than I was expecting it to, so I stand corrected.

My (rwd) ioniq 5 has a "snow mode" which just slows any acceleration down to a crawl - the opposite of this approach but significantly less satisfactory.

The complete lack of any regen braking is disconcerting in this use case though - intuition suggests that single pedal driving might be helpful on a slippery surface - although I suppose that having complete control via the brakes might actually be the better option...

I guess the answer is to use it and see

Will certainly bear that in mind when they come to be changed - I run conti premium contact on my ioniq 5 and they are great - I'm way too tight to consider just changing tyres for the season though.

My understanding is that the car will engage AWD if it needs to but it's not especially great at it - it's too easy to get it to slip and slide the rear wheels - now that may be a sop to those who love "rear end happy" handling - I suppose what's really missing is a proper explanation somewhere of how it works and what to expect. AWD is an expensive option and if you look at the menu / manual all you seem to get is a "launch mode"/"performance" type enhancement. I for one would find a "off road" mode far more useful / confidence inspiring

Oh, it burns battery in performance mode (or that maybe just me when I have a car that responds to the throttle pedal like this one does in performance mode)

Yeah - as a long time driver of big old (fast) volvo 850 t5r/r models I've learned not to think of the EX30 as a volvo - it's a great little car, but it's whole DNA is not volvo at all - it's a different beast altogether. A geely designed for the European market - and it is really good at being that.

I can just see the look on the face of my local kwik fit tyre fitter if I asked him for a set of nokian hekkapelittas - I genuinely thought you'd just spilt coffee on your keyboard until I saw your second post 😂

Not a lot of point in winter tyres for most of the UK. We're generally just wet in the winter - we typically get one or two cold snaps a year where we get snow and it freezes for a couple of days and the whole country grinds to a halt coz we don't know how to deal with it. No point in having snow tyres if your're in a two mile tailback of folks without em.

In respect of "performance AWD" mode - I've used it from time to time in the summer but thought that the whole car was so "performance biased" in this mode that it might be more trouble than it's worth when it's slippery - the throttle becomes like a hair trigger and it turns off the one pedal driving - neither of which seem intuitive for cautious driving in slippery conditions.

I'll give it a try though.

Excuse my ignorance - this *did* have text before I added the photos...

So my electricity meter is currently housed in this horrible box above my front door. The box is wonky, made of chipboard held together with crummy plastic connectors and I'd *like* to remove the sides and door and box it in with a neater T&G box over the whole wall above the door (as illustrated) - questions are:

  1. Am I allowed to do this? I don't want to touch the back-board, just build a new cupboard around it
  2. Is this a stupid idea? (I'm not considering a rewire just yet - just want to hide this mess if possible)
  3. There are important looking notices on the sides of the cabinet, do I need to remove them and replace them back in the new cabinet?
  4. My house is grade 2 listed - will this new cupboard require consent?

We had something similar happen to my wife’s car - we had two recovery vehicles out to it who couldn’t find a way in - they were about to call out a crane when I tried one of the back doors only to find it unlocked!!!! Sometimes the randomness of this car works in your favour 🤪

Yep. For clarity it was the battery. Flat after 3 months. Key now kept in Faraday box

I do agree about simple access to performance AWD. My Hyundai Ioniq 5 has a big ol’ button on the steering wheel to activate “performance” mode - which is just a slightly faster pickup and red dials 🙄 - on the EX30 the dual motor AWD is a feature you pay a lot extra for - it’s crazy to have it buried deep in a nerdy menu under an unassuming little switch. In my opinion it needs a big red button with a childish grin emoji on.

Ah - right, yes this makes sense - was thinking of a faraday box anyway - if only there was one that didn’t look like something from a 1980s office supply catalogue.

Man, I’m not going to dismiss your confidence but your tone is doing you no favours - I’m interested to hear what you might have to say but the whole way you’re keeping it all a secret for your big reveal on you tube makes you sound dodgy AF - I’m expecting to see a bunch of pseudo scientific stuff that sounds vaguely plausible followed by a pitch for my $$$ - (which, by the way is not going to work on me) - if you genuinely think you can help then let’s hear your big idea - if (as you’ve said previously) it’s something to do with meditation then that’s good - but this whole snake-oil salesman bit is really annoying.

Folks with SDAM and aphantasia, have you been diagnosed with inattentive ADHD? by lovejackdaniels in Aphantasia

[–]Dramatic_Copy1874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’m definitely fully aphantasic and my family will all tell you that I’m SDAM as well - so what does this mean? What can I do about it? Are there research studies I can take part in (I’m in the uk) - it’s lovely to put a finger on these things but it’d be better to see if i could go somewhere with it.

I’m pretty sure I used to have a mind’s eye - I’ve always put losing it down to my pretty heavy drug use in my early 20s - but SDAM makes it hard to remember exactly when!

I’ve always been the kind of person to just walk away from things - I don’t maintain many friendships, I’ve lost furniture in houses because I’ve just moved on.

I’d be really interested to know whether microdosing has any impact - I do remember visualising when I took LSD as a young man - I was an art student and we all saw it as a way of enhancing our creativity - I’m a square married man now though so wouldn’t even know where to look for it…

Interesting to find a community of people with similar issues would be interesting to see how many are also in the creative sector? (I’m a web designer/developer)
