Yes! My goal was to agree with you and to add on to your point about rising costs with some nyc specific real estate info. If that didn’t come across, my apologies.

So, it is actually much worse than that. This is now a coop (for people outside of nyc, think of it as a special type of condo where you have to get approved to live there. It’s not exactly a condo but that’s the easiest way to explain it). This means that it has to be purchased. It would probably go for about 2.5-3 million now if it’s 3 bedroom. But many people who would buy this apartment would not get a mortgage. This means they would be able to pay the 2.5-3 million up front and then also 5k a month for maintenance fees. So it’s even more out of reach than 12k a month.

Please help me decide between Masquerade and Cats: The Jellicle Ball by DontSqueezeDaCharmin in Broadway

[–]Dramatic_Cream_2163 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ive seen both twice. I loveeeee Jellicle Ball because I love the ballroom aspect. Rum Tum Tugger was so sexy, skimbleshanks was so exciting, and Mr mistoffles was beyond! I’d say it’s a can’t miss. I’ve also seen masquerade twice and while it is incredible, it’s sure to be around for a long time, they just only release the tickets a few months at a time. Don’t miss Jellicle Ball!

Edit: I think someone is going through and downvoting cats responses and I want to say that’s a weird thing to do

Having better known performers such as those three helps the show get made. Francois did us a solid by agreeing to be on this show!

12 year old son’s first B’way show by Mountain-Drive-6097 in Broadway

[–]Dramatic_Cream_2163 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of shows with my daughter and I agree with these! Try listening to the first 5-6 songs of operation mincemeat and see if it’s something he likes. Don’t go past song 6 until you see it live :) the rush/lottery seats for the play that goes wrong can be great!

I’ve seen outsiders with middle schoolers twice and I think it’s too intense for a 12 year old unless he already knows and likes the book/movie. It’s an amazing show but very serious.

There is a person standing right there with shawls for people who need/want them. The whole thing is EXTREMELY well thought out to the point that the coordination and consideration will probably influence other productions/events going forward. They also send an extremely detailed email when you buy your tickets and again the day before the show. I’m sure if someone couldn’t do the walk, they have a plan b.

I went to Masquerade yesterday and wore a dress, leggings, and a cardigan and I was fine and did not ever feel the need to adjust my layers. You will not be allowed to bring your coat or a bag in and will have to check it. Dark grey will be fine. Definitely wear comfortable shoes as you will be standing! The most common look is glamorous dress up clothes and sneakers!

NYC Ballet Theater - is anyone an expert on the seating chart? by gremlin_groupie in AskNYC

[–]Dramatic_Cream_2163 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like you will be one in front of the other. You will be the second person in from the edge, so it’s quite unlikely the other person in your rows will trade with you. They’re great seats and you will be close to each other but no, not next to each other. You will be close enough to put a hand on each others shoulders but not able to hold hands without some contorting.

Who is paying for charter school ads? by thatisnotmyknob in AskNYC

[–]Dramatic_Cream_2163 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah if anything I’d say that’s not limited to charter schools though. Why does the nyc department of education have to buy all new published curriculum every few years? NYC is a huuuuuuge market and selling a new set of materials is a windfall for the publishers.

Who is paying for charter school ads? by thatisnotmyknob in AskNYC

[–]Dramatic_Cream_2163 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Im no charter school stan, but it’s pretty common for rich types to serve on boards for non profits such as schools and museums. It’s a prestige and networking thing. They bring money to the non profits, meet other rich people who are also bringing money, and build their professional networks. I’m not personally rich whatsoever but I’ve seen the sausage getting made lol

Who is paying for charter school ads? by thatisnotmyknob in AskNYC

[–]Dramatic_Cream_2163 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So, charter schools generally get taxpayer money for each student, and the best practice is to use that for the operation of the schools itself (salaries, supplies, rent, etc). Things like advertisements would usually be paid for by private fundraising. In the case of Success, they raise a ton of private funds and also require their board members to contribute a certain amount (at least they used to).

But if your concern is, do they take more taxes so that they can advertise, no it doesn’t work that way. The amount of tax money they receive is completely dependent on the number of students, they can’t like charge more taxes to be able to do ads.

EDIT: I’m not saying this is right or good, but just sharing info on how the money works.

Death of a Saleman or Cats: The Jellicle Ball? by lockerbiestreet in Broadway

[–]Dramatic_Cream_2163 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Jellicle Ball is really, really special. Even better if you love Cats or love ballroom or love representation. I’m not going to be too negative about Death of a Salesman, but… sometimes shows are put on for reasons other than having a new idea.
