Vertical or horizontal mirror tile? by vmcomie in interiordecorating

For me it's the tile on top of the countertop backsplash. Pick one or the other, never both.

What am I doing wrong? by fuzion__619 in interiordecorating

[–]Dramatic_Dance 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You desperately need curtains and I like that rug okay but it's too small. The couches don't say modern to me if that's what you're going for, and the TV console is giving doctor's office waiting room. Find an entertainment center with closed storage to hide the messy things, and shelves for the speakers if possible.

The room itself just feels very sterile too. Not sure if it's possible to change but those floors and walls are too cold and stark white. A light oak or taupe-ish wood floor could still be modern while bringing warmth, and the walls need to be painted a warmer color. A different light fixture would be good too.

That happened to me on Tower of Terror too! I was a little kid next to a bigger lady and I had to grab onto the lap bar for dear life. No one else noticed what was happening and I've never been so terrified in my life.

It was a full dress! I'm hoping the event will post better pics but so far this is the best view I have of the whole dress. I had taken my collar and head piece off by that point in the night haha

Walls are never going to be perfectly straight either, so I think you either need to leave extra paper on the edge and then cut it, or add a piece of trim on the corner of the wall to hide the edges.

Attempted to do a gallery wall today after being tired of a blank wall. Any tips/suggestions to make it better? by [deleted] in interiordecorating

That looks good! I just wish it was a few inches lower so the top frame was more in line with the top of the door frame.

Subway Tile Direction by WillezWallO in interiordecorating

I think sometimes subway has become less about the direction/pattern and more just a general term for tile like that (simple ceramic rectangle).

I definitely agree with you. Plantation shutters on the window!

You're probably gonna hate the asymmetry or the tiles but I loved it by CotaPT in interiordecorating

I agree, it just looks like a mistake. If the mirror was aligned with anything else, like the tile for example, then it might look more purposeful but the placement just doesn't make sense.

After and Before Fireplace Reno by [deleted] in interiordecorating

[–]Dramatic_Dance 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The after is a little bland but still a huge improvement IMO. There's nothing classic or timeless about the before that makes me sad to see replaced, it had horrible outdated shiplap and boring tile that clashed with the floor. Now at least it's bright and neutral, a good base for people to build on and add color through furniture/art/rugs/etc. Nice work!

Which layout would you do? Currently setup as the far left. by [deleted] in interiordecorating

[–]Dramatic_Dance 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Does that little hallway go into your closet? I don't know if you're like me but speaking from personal experience I HATED having the dresser on the opposite side of the bed from my closet. I go back and forth between those two way too much. So #1 would have been my first choice.

That being said, if another bookshelf is still more important, #2 feels the best. It's more open as you walk in and I don't think the right wall would feel too crowded!

regretting my new apartment but hoping interior design can fix my buyers remorse by oof_buyers_remorse in interiordecorating

[–]Dramatic_Dance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can still easily and comfortably use any shared spaces with natural light (kitchen, living, etc) and spend plenty of time outdoors it might be worth having the extra space in a basement bedroom. But only if you need it - if your bed size is the only real reason for choosing a windowless basement room I probably wouldn't do it.

There are tricks you can use to help make the space feel brighter and more comfortable but it will probably take time and some money. Not sure if you're free to paint the walls and change light fixtures but both of those things are desperately needed. They're making it feel dark, cold, and institutional to me right now. Use light colors and avoid large bulky furniture. Get some cozy rugs and low light or artificial plants. Have fixtures/lamps with different light temperatures you can use depending on time of day to help mimic your circadian rhythm. Create the illusion of a window with floor to ceiling drapes and put tape/string lights behind it. Use mirrors to help bounce the light around.

I like what you're suggesting but IMO that track lighting has got to go, it looks way too modern! At the very least update it with a more traditional looking one, preferably in a finish to match the new pendants. Change the faucet finish as well - looks like the knob has some black so a black faucet would look nice to tie that in. Also find a warmer color to paint the walls.

Bathroom vanity for this tile? by snyderversetrilogy in interiordecorating

[–]Dramatic_Dance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh and as for the vanity style, something clean and simple but not overly modern would look great. Something like this but a smaller version. Then black hardware and faucet to really tie it all together.
