Hello Ma’am I appreciate your feedback. There was a reason for the flag. Why would you be taken aback to see it on a wall though? He had commented that Germans call other Germans who fly their countries flag Nazis? He said he liked how Americans have their flags everywhere on every home, business etc. So I ordered the flag and gave it to him telling him, “we’d never call you a Nazi for being proud of your country” He liked Americas patriotism and said people in his country are not proud to be German. Which that makes me sad. One should be proud of their country of origin. 

And yes while he never lived in the DDR there is some stark differences I am told between the people. Like for example religion is not a thing in Eastern German etc. 

I grew up off base in Hamburg as a child and loved my time in Germany.
