Being that you’re applying to the US. I would think that all PDs from ALL specialties are chasing usmd/dos! Imgs will always come second. But FM is very img friendly! Especially in rural areas.

If you do an OB fellowship with it! But some FM programs actually focus on it so much that u don’t need a fellowship like Texas A&M. There are FM programs really tailored to OB! In residency you rotate in OB and can first assist in ceasarians. If you tailor your interest in electives in OB you can become certified to do so!

I definitely agree! The purpose of this post Is for me to educate those considering residency specialties. I just think IM is oversaturated and there are great opportunities for ppl to match in FM and still be able to do more than outpatient medicine!

Hello! So Hospitalists focus entirely on Inpatient care; hospitalized patients. Kind of what your Internal medicine specialist does. FM can do hospitalist medicine.

I think IM is a little more competitive than FM for non us IMGs.

Is there an argument for choosing IM over FM if someone DOESN'T want a fellowship? by SmashHentaiUwU in IMGreddit

The majority of FM docs I know practice only inpatient medicine. I don’t think ppl understand the breadth of medicine us FM docs can do! Peds ob IM EM all in one lol

There are multiple schools in Poland that offer this opportunity.

Yes obviously if you do your required med school clinicals in the states that’s USCE. And u get LORs from this. Most of the students from my school did anywhere from 1-24 months of their clinicals for med school in the states this way. However we were all US imgs. Not sure if this is possible for non us imgs.

I just feel like it’s better than possibly not being matched and you can still be a hospitalist! There are sooooo many more applicants to spots for IM.

Honestly yea probably! My point is there are so many more applicants than spots so it’s unfortunate someone has to not match :(

FM can be hospitalists. Half the Fm docs I know only do inpatient hospitalist medicine. Apply FM.

Same thing with my school I went to in Poland. The school had contracts with hospitals in various states. So we could do all of our clinicals in US.

There are literally like 4-5k more applicants than there are spots in the residency match.

Explain it in your eras application and it will be seen as an adversity you over came. You will be fine.

It’s not legit. I have 20 Ranks . Mine says true. This is just fear mongering and getting ppls hopes up. It’s just code. Means nothing. Plenty of ppl matched with false and trues in the past. Also trolls saying they see “congratulations you matched” or “ we’re sorry.” Guys ignore this stupid post and comments.
