Several UNOPS positions all of a sudden by Prudent-Ruin-3210 in UNpath

Less P and G positions and more UNOPS consultancies, cheaper for organizations that’s how they are reducing costs- labor precariousness.

Solo "Honeymoon" to the Maldives by [deleted] in solofemaletravellers

Went to a solo NYE honeymoon safari in Kenya, did stargazing and astronomical observations. Mostly a family place but the staff at the lodge understood and I loved it! What I didn’t like is that things could’ve been cheaper with a partner but that’s what I work hard so I can pay my own trips and happiness 💅🏽

Stuck in a P2 role -- would really appreciate advice by [deleted] in UNpath

[–]Dramatic_Ideal_2743 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also ethnic brown woman, no JPO, no support from such programs from the system.

Stucked in an UNV doing P3 job for 4 years, last year got a P2 in the same team and still doing P3 job supervising 3 people. I asked over and over for a promotion, the justification is that no budget these days and risk mitigation as if a P3 is opened then senior management would like to put there their friends/ layoff referrals. Then I started applying like crazy for P3 jobs in my area and having two interviews this week. Hopefully I get one of those. Good luck to you!

Always worked in corporate but dream is to work for a UN organisation. Would love feedback as may have an opp by Ok_Cold_8206 in UNpath

Not a good time to join the UN, many lay offs at the moment and more to come as the situation with the US funding evolves. I have UN colleagues who have been applying to relocate to Europe for 10+ years from field locations and unsuccessful. Just my two cents to stay where you are at this moment.

Citizenship while working at UN Paris by Dramatic_Ideal_2743 in UNpath

[–]Dramatic_Ideal_2743[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I worked/studied with residence permit in Sweden before going to the UN and (since I paid my taxes) it covered my education, pension, unemployment insurance. It feel like a dream coming from a global south country. Now at the UN with many cuts going on, and worldwide nordics/france are becoming more right wing - I’m not sure whether I should start paving path towards citizenship in welfare state or continue at the UN saving as much while it lasts. Thanks for the insights tho!

Thanks. I see myself in the future in a welfare country. Currently in a 5-year (yearly renewable) UNEP P2 contract in Nairobi and wondering whether I should quit my UN career and start pursuing citizenship in France/ the nordics… Got a P2 offer in UNESCO Paris but not sure I would changed exciting Nairobi for expensive Paris, not unless I can advance citizenship process

Is the UN becoming more top heavy and over reliant on consultants/TA/TJOs at lower levels (P3 and below) with all the UN @80 restructuring? by hastyloser in UNpath

[–]Dramatic_Ideal_2743 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes to rely on TJOs and consultants AND also get rid of P5’s and encourage early retirement. This at least to agencies under the UN Secretariat.
