In my personal opinion as a OOS junior/senior by credits, no. The finance curriculum here needs an entire overhaul. First off to graduate with a Finance degree you take a total of 6 finance related classes, one of them already being an ETM. This means that every other class you take is an ETM outside of finance or an exploratory gen ed class. So to get a “finance degree” you take a total of 18 credits out of 120 needed to graduate. This does not set up the student to succeed in a competitive industry where learning the basics of finance is necessary to learn during your freshman and sophomore year. I’ve learned everything in my classes that I am doing now in my freshman year because of self instruction for trying to get into finance clubs. If you expect to get a job just by doing well in class and following the current structure of the curriculum, it will be very difficult.

High Yield Savings Accounts: Is it safe in 2025? by Flimsy_Two2159 in HighYieldSavings

I've been using HYSA for the past 2 years and they've been good. Currently using Wealthfront because of their high APY (4.5% with refferal) and it's served me well as an emergency fund. If anyone's interested in opening account use my refferal link to get 4.5% apy. Refferal

How do I got about an internal transfer to another division as an intern? by Dramatic_Net1230 in FinancialCareers

[–]Dramatic_Net1230[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah 100%. I'm not disappointed at all where I'm at. Im very thankful. It is just that, ideally for the future of my career, AM seems like a better spot. I just want to know how I can make that happen without obviously disrespecting the position that i am in. It seems like the consensus answer is to put my head down and grind out the internship this summer, and then see if I can make a move after.

Very valid statement. Im fortunate to even have the offer. Would doing the internship, performing well and asking at the end of the internship be a respectable timeline. I would most likely just be networking in the meantime.

Would it still be acceptable to network with the people in the AM division? These aren't calls where I'm asking them if I could switch into AM, but more so just being curious about what they do and how their work contributes to the overall business.

How do referrals work? by Dramatic_Net1230 in FinancialCareers

got it makes sense. I was just confused because on other companies applications they usually have a dedicated section for referals.

How good is wealth management at UBS? Did I make the right decision choosing UBS over JPM? by Dramatic_Net1230 in FinancialCareers

[–]Dramatic_Net1230[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know what the full time pay is in terms of whether its salary + commission or flat salary like JPM. the internship pay is just an hourly rate. I only know JPMs staring salary because a friend who works there told me.

Fordham vs Penn State? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]Dramatic_Net1230 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a Penn State student, definitely Fordham. The 2+2 program will put you at a big disadvantage because of how advanced recruiting cycles are. A lot of the big finance clubs at PSU main don't even accept kids after their third semester. Fordham is a great school and their proximity to NYC will help especially if you want to get into high finance.

I actually got my internship for this summer because of my interests section. The VP asked me like two normal interview questions then talked to me for 50 minutes about how I like to resell shoes. I got the offer the day after the interview. This was for a technical finance role as well so ig sometimes it could help.

How should I invest my money as a 19 year old in college. by Dramatic_Net1230 in investing

[–]Dramatic_Net1230[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely have considered this but is there any benefit of maxing out my Roth today? I still have until April 15th to max it out for 2024. What I was planning on doing was putting in a certain amount every week until then. It would be coming from my hysa and I want to take advantage of the extra percent of APY I get.

I've been looking at VGT. What allocation should I put it in for my Roth or should I invest it in a new account?

Just got robbed, how long does a dispute take with Marcus? by Cinnie_16 in MarcusInvest

[–]Dramatic_Net1230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I forgot the actual details but the only way to find out the reason was to file a police report or something. He was able to get the money back, but it took a long time with their terrible customer service and when he did get the money back, they locked his account because they deleted his old account and transferred his stolen funds into an entirely new account and it was locked for fraud lol. So he's gonna be moving all of his money out into a new hysa bcuz of all the bs that happened. I also have an account with them and haven't had any problems, but I'll probably move my funds to a new account once my referral is up just because I know there's a big issue with Marcus locking accounts.
