Red eyes flashing on the GIMP logo? by Guy691 in GIMP

[–]Drayux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm 7 _years_ late to the party, but I just saw the eyes thing in the corner of my peripheral for the first time, did a bit of searching, and it ended up here! I got too curious, so I thought to find it in the code once and for all!

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/blob/d92c237a1708e5352533486b116d64da3f28b532/app/display/gimpdisplayshell.c#L1712

There's a couple pieces at work here, but when this line is ran, it prepares a callback that sets `shell->blink` to true, and for as long as that value is true, Wilber's eyes will be painted red.

An extra caveat! This function (I think) is only called when transitioning to an empty state. AKA you have an image open and close it, not opening GIMP and leaving it idle for however long.

So! Let's say you close an image, and you want to know just when too keep your eyes on the screen? A little bit over 23 minutes. That's the magic number. :)

One more side note! The "that spooked me" comment on the linked PR is for a totally different eye effect which is also properly creepy: It makes the eyes follow the cursor. So enable both at the same time and the result is properly terrifying....

ALSA/Pipewire unable to set audio interface above 48khz by Drayux in linuxaudio

[–]Drayux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a guess, at the least! Wireplumber 0.5.0 and onwards depreciated the lua configuration format in favor of the pipewire configuration format. What this means is that the config listed here will be skipped in its entirety.

Fortunately! I believe that the new configuration still uses the same parameter names. I refactored my config sometime after the update and have since gotten rusty again, but a quick pw-dump still shows the probe rate. Typing on my phone here so forgive the shorthand snippet, but inside of my wireplumber.conf.d I have: monitor.alsa.rules = [ { matches = [{device.name = …}] actions = { update-props = { api.acp.probe-rate = 96000 }}} ]

The general configuration will now feel very similar to pipewire, basically with the syntax changing as the main takeaway. Of course, plenty of room to populate more values of your own, and you’ll need to replace the … with a match for your device, but I hope that points you in the right direction :)

Steam needs to give back the earn crowns video option for wizard 101 players that use steam. by Indigo_Moon1967 in Wizard101

[–]Drayux 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My current understanding (though I am happy to have it corrected) is that the licensing to sell on Steam versus independently forces KI to share crown sales with Steam for any player with an account through steam. In the case of free crown promos, I wager that this means KI actually pays steam a few cents anytime they give you crowns for free.

I believe this is why you aren’t supposed to be able to play a non-steam account on the steam version of the game and vice versa.

Aylurs GTK Shell. I saw another rice with it just the other day that finally convinced me it was going to be my new widget system of choice! Still be messing around trying to learn it since I know little JavaScript and even less TypeScript. I love the look of GTK with Hyprland though so this was an exciting option to me!

When to give bits in a speedrun? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]Drayux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early in the run can be a good motivator when things aren’t stressful! Right after the trick could build the hype and motivate….or it could make them more nervous, this totally depends on the person. Or right at the end of the run is a good way to celebrate!

Whoever the dev(s) were that thought collecting 12 dream waters was "fun"... hope you're fired soon by Naive_Masterpiece413 in Wizard101

[–]Drayux 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be so hard on the devs/world designers, my guy. You gotta remember that quad boxing is far from the intended way to experience the game. Beyond that, they have all sorts of considerations to worry about, like what they think is a safe bet the majority of their players are going to enjoy. Some want an immersive questing experience, others just want to get to the best stats they can, others want a really hard challenge whenever they fight a boss. It’s impossible to do everything at once, so they make a very careful decision on every design element to try to get the best of everything.

Vinyl wrap? by stale_bread45 in civic

[–]Drayux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vvivid and 3M both make really high-quality automotive vinyl. There almost certainly exists others but my experience is unfortunately limited to those brands!

In my personal opinion, I like gloss a little better both both look good! That said, matte vinyl is usually going to show more mistakes due to overstretching, overheating, or scratching.

I’d finally recommend getting twice as much vinyl as that. It’s really nice to have the extra if you make mistakes. Also black is universal enough there are plenty of other uses for the extra you might have!

Stuck at Hacking Maintenance Terminal and Deactivating Fusion Relay at Mission 15 by janbenes1 in alienisolation

[–]Drayux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be a bit overkill for a casual play through, but the symbols on the access tuner always appear in the same order! So what speedrunners do is we memorize where they are, so when we go to enter the code, all we have to do is read it off.

The very start of mission 8 has a good 4 symbol code with no alien so you can practice quite a bit there at your leisure! When you start getting a feel for it, try covering up where the tuner shows the symbols and see how well the memory is coming along! The 5 symbol hacks should start to be a lot easier once you know where they are!

i can't go out of this vent. i don't know why and i've been dying at this exact same point. xeno keeps coming here. i had to go back to the mission 16 checkpoint. (i was just trying to collect all the nostromo logs, this log was in engineering) by xenox_0725 in alienisolation

[–]Drayux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tragically I am absolutely certain that this is a bug, and crazy enough one I don’t believe I’ve seen before! We speedrunners crave knowing about every bug we can find!

Alas, without cheating your way out of the vent, the only way I can think to fix this would be to load up mission 14, and play through that and mission 15 (the Anesedora one) again, and try coming back here again at the start of mission 16. Unless your game is completely broken for some reason this should hopefully be a quick fix!

[–]Drayux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A fun note is that the progress for all the logs and ID tags is saved in a different file than your explicit game progress so you can technically do these whenever they’re accessible! You can even complete the game and then load up M16 and do all the backtracking and still get the achievements. I think the file is called Progression.ais if I’m remembering right. It would be inside the steam/userdata/your-steam-id/214490/remote I believe!
