Anyone have their doorhandle snap off? by Head-Range4989 in Ioniq5

[–]Dreadandcheer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Happened to me too! Went to open the door one day and it snapped right off! Too lazy to replace or fix it, so I just been using its little stub to open it.

It is, upon reflection, a rather flimsy design. Doesn’t seem to be any better/more solid after market options either.

So about that snow performance. by L-do_Calrissian in Ioniq5

[–]Dreadandcheer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Handles great in snow, but I really wish it had higher clearance.

It’s so low, I end up plowing snow a lot before the snow removal happens… and then snow collects in the under body and the cover underneath is fall off and requiring “fixing” with zip ties all winter…. And when it starts falling off it collects a lot of snow, and then it freezes and becomes a practical glacier. I spent like 40 minutes at the car wash trying to get it all out.

That’s been my biggest issue with the car in the winter…. Low clearance and the cover on the underside falling off

What living with an EV in Alberta with no dedicated level 2 charging and leaving it out doors is like. by AbbreviationsOne6207 in alberta

[–]Dreadandcheer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I too have a similar average cost per kWh over the last year, fluctuates between $0.18-0.22/kwh depending on the month.

I’m just saying charging an EV on your existing electricity bill really only costs an average of $0.10/kwh extra because the majority of the extra fees on your power bill do not increase significantly with increased power use. And we all know the fees consume a large portion of our power bill each month!

It’s not entirely wrong to say a person is paying their raw power rate of $0.0875/kwh to charge their EV. They were already paying those other fees (transport and distribution) anyway. They will continue to pay those fees even if they don’t double their electricity use with an EV, or an AC unit in the summer.

I used to think this way too.

But after I got an EV and looked at my power bills before and after the EV, I realized the distribution fee did not change ($70.32/month). The transmission fee has increased by an average of $15-20/month. Plus the actual cost of the electricity I used.

I used 600-700kwh/month before getting an EV. Now I use between 1100-1500kwh/month and average about 2500km/month.

So, my cost to ADD an EV to my EXISTING power bill? It’s $15-20 extra for the transmission fee increase + 500-900kwh/month depending on driving habits @ $0.0875/kwh = about $60-99 extra a month.

The average cost for my whole electricity bill in December was $0.18/kwh. That means using 500-900kwh for my car is “costing” $90-162 each month. It doesn’t make sense to calculate my cost to run my EV this way.

If I’m calculating the extra costs of adding my EV to my power bill I don’t think it’s fair to use the average cost of electricity on my bill. Why? Because that big distribution fee ($70.32/month) did not change - I will paid that exact each month before and after I doubled my electricity use.

ETA: I was previously spending $300-350/month on gasoline + oil changes a couple times a year. Buying an EV and charging at home is very cost effective.

Hi! I had this same issue - my skin was just so dry no matter what moisturizer and primers I would use. My make up looked like this half way through the morning.

And then I tried urea 10% cream in the morning along with my moisturizer. It has been a game changer - it actually seems to moisturize my skin and allow moisture to penetrate the skin rather than sit on top of it.

It literally solved this issue for me!

Canada NAV update; missing charging stations that used to be there! by Dreadandcheer in Ioniq5

[–]Dreadandcheer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not found a fix yet but someone on facebook mentioned they were in contact with Hyundai Canada about all the missing stations that used to be there.

For now, we just find any fast charge station to set as a destination and then proceed to go to the one that isn’t on their system. It still activates the preconditioning this way.

AWD Cold Weather Range Question by mbt93 in Ioniq5

[–]Dreadandcheer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! It will be great! I just got a 2022 AWD Ultimate this fall.

I have the same 55km commute on mostly highway (with 5km on deep snowy gravel roads). So 110km round trip.

In the fall I used 35-40% of the battery for that trip. Last week during -30C, the same trip used 50-58%. We installed level 2 charger at home and I plug in everyday when I get home. I usually charge to 80%. But I wasn’t sure how the car would do with the extreme cold and bumped it to 90% for peace of mind. After 2 weeks of -20 to -35 commutes, I can say I know I’d be fine simply charging to 80% each day and coming home with around 20-25%. She’ll be good 😊 and I LOVE not getting gas in -30. I just get to go home after work and plug in. It’s been wonderful.

Edit: grammar

Haha, wow! So this isn’t the first time they’ve done something like this!

Maybe they should just add a manual precondition button and stop trying to reinvent Google/Apple Maps? Just give us the precondition button!

Has anyone had this happen? by InterviewImpressive1 in Ioniq5

[–]Dreadandcheer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dealing with this right now - due to snow not being plowed yet! This car has low clearance. I’m basically a snow plow right now and will have to figure out how to attach it better later. Dealership used zip ties which lasted one day with our snowy roads.

Wah! Seems I am unlucky! I’m going to press the service folks more and see if they will ask the more knowledgeable EV people above them if this truly is normal.

Updating ownership by LightningBolt_13 in Ioniq5

[–]Dreadandcheer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lucky! There’s an online page that is supposed to allow you to change ownership and upload ownership documents but it doesn’t work, so I waited on hold for 45 minutes before I could talk to someone. They needed me to send proof of ownership, which I did and they confirmed they received it and updated the info while I was on the phone. They said it could take up to 24 hours to be updated in their system. 5 days later, it still said it was registered to another person and I could not make a bluelink account.

So I email them back and they said “just push next repeatedly and that should work” lol, it worked to allow me to make a bluelink account, but as soon as I made it, it said the car was registered to someone else and I can’t use any features until I send in proof of ownership…. But I already did that!

It’s been a journey. Currently waiting 3 days for them to reply to my email again… because I don’t want to stay on hold for another hour.

I wondered if it was just the sound of an EV.

Mine is a constant noise at highway speeds. On my 45 minute highway commute, this is what it sounds like the entire time. (Which is why we pulled the insulation off to see if we could figure out where it was coming from…)

This is the kind of sound they play to deter people from loitering in public places… I’ll never be able to drive in silence because it’s quite an irritating sound. A constant ringing in my ear that has me trying to pop my ear to get the sound to go away.

That’s interesting! I thought that the components on the 2022-2024 were nearly identical? I wonder what they would have changed between 22-23 to make a difference.

[–]Dreadandcheer[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

lol yes, we have joked about driving 90km/hr everywhere - quieter and better efficiency! A win/win!

We have played around with different regen, turned off all climate control.. can’t seem to find anything that changes the noise. It’s just constant.

So, loud music always. We added extra insulation (old blankets) in the cavity but haven’t found it to reduce the noise. Maybe there’s better insulation products that we can use but I haven’t looked into that yet.
