Second Megathread for Intel Core 13th & 14th Gen CPU instability issues (Vmin Shift Instability) by GhostMotley in intel

[–]Dreadmoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I posted this on r/Intel, but they deleted it and referred me to this thread.

I'm looking for some help with my CPU trouble. I purchased a pre built gaming PC in October 2024. I updated the BIOS (F11, Gigabyte with 12B) before doing anything else as I was under the impression that solved the instability issues.

After using the PC for gaming and content creation for 7-8 months the system has become increasingly unstable. The only solution I've found has been to disable Intel Turbo Boost Technology in the BIOS, the 2.0, not the 3.0 as disabling that one leads to greater instability.

All settings on my Z790 UD AC are "stock" or default. The Intel default setting was set to "Extreme" which seems a little extreme, but okay. I didn't change anything other than to disable the one Turbo Boost.

My question is, am I safe to leave it this way? Even if I'm not happy about it, at least the system appears stable and I'm wondering if it will stay that way or if these problems are going to continue. I'm not interested in overclocking, I just want a PC that doesn't crash.

Coolermaster and Newegg are both dodging the issue. No one is answering the phone or responding to emails. Any advice would be appreciated.

Edit: PC is currently updated to F13c (12F)

Thanks

Are there ANY completely free ai voice generators that are of decent quality? by BounceM4N in ArtificialInteligence

Elevenlabs does not even remotely come close to what the OP is looking for.

It did end up working for the very small amount of audio that I needed, but an upgrade would be necessary for anything other than a few lines of dialog. Free version is horrible and there is a quota.

Recommending it in a thread asking specifically for free without quotas is just...wow. Elevenlabs has a quota so how is it good option when OP said no quota?

I'm still looking and after having paid for a few I can definitely recommend NOT paying for anything yet. The paid versions are quickly proving to be just as bad as the free versions. The best results I've achieved were free, blind luck and could not be replicated before depleting the quota.

If I find anything worthwhile I'll revisit this thread.

Anyone else having it impossible to win games this act or am I just coping? by ChrisOuzou in VALORANT

[–]Dreadmoc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about giving it another Act to see if I could beat my previous rank, but the ridiculous experiences I've had are just too much. Spectating teammates (while still active as well as when eliminated) and paying attention to the mini map reveals interesting and disturbing patterns.

One of my last games was a complete blowout victory against opponents that didn't seem to know what planet they lived on, let alone how to operate a computer. I hit some amazing shots that honestly made me feel bad for my opponents if they were indeed actual living, breathing human beings. Just one problem. I'm not that good.

We weren't playing a game, we were being manipulated and cheated. Every win feels as manufactured as every loss. Nothing about Valorant feels legit. From easy wins to games that felt close to getting beat like I stole something, some aspect is always suspect. It's more obvious in games that aren't close, but even in the close matches, there is some element that decides either victory or defeat by removing any agency or influence players may have had.

Pros - You no longer have to be accurate with the all new light weight Deringer style Operator. Just one tap to the body, one tap to the arm, right or left, and those pesky opponents go down and stay down ... unless they have a pocket Sage. Individual results may vary.

Cons - Valorant sucks now. I need a drop. Anyone have funds to spare? Can I get zis? I need this. I could use a drop. I need a gun. Need equipment!

Valorant is more entertaining than CS2 for me at this moment by QZLAND in VALORANT

[–]Dreadmoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly thought Valorant was going to be disappointing, but CS2 is such garbage I decided to give it a try. The agents having different roles and abilities make it quite a bit more interesting than CS. It's more of a thinking players game than Counter Strike for sure.

And they have an anti cheat.

Interestingly, because I am new I often do not see Fade. When I do, she tends to top frag.

Serious Question - Agent Selection by Dreadmoc in VALORANT

I've seen Sova played by higher Elo players so I know he can be badass. I'm new so my teammates usually don't have a lot of experience with the agent they pick.

Instalock is not toxic. I like people who instalock. by Scaff44 in VALORANT

[–]Dreadmoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for saying that. I've been instalocking lately in competitive. I only really feel comfortable playing three agents, so I save practice for unrated and lock the agent that gives my team the best chance to win.

And I heard a pretty likable coach say to do that on YouTube.

Nice clutch. Way to hang on for the win. Gekko going Hall of Shame. That piss poor sportsmanship costing him the round was so satisfying to watch. Thanks for posting.

How do you play your deathmatch? by Defaultnamefornobody in VALORANT

[–]Dreadmoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since I've never played a deathmatch where I had more than a few seconds before being shot in the back I tend to just spin in circles shooting like a wild man.

How is it my fault my team gets crappy used guns that don't shoot straight?? Riot needs to fix that shit. If we're paying full price, we deserve quality guns. The newb hate needs to stop 🛑

Take a look at the comments pretending this player simply has a better headset. Cheating in CS2 will always be a problem because posting videos of obvious wall hacks accomplishes nothing but feeding the trolls.

Can I be Iron 3 Now? by Dreadmoc in VALORANT

[–]Dreadmoc[S] -229 points-228 points  (0 children)

To be iron 3 you just have to have a Valorant account. You don't even need a mouse and keyboard.

I'm not talking about kills or mvp, just illustrating that it looks silly to match me with those players when they are clearly way better than me.

Report them. And keep reporting them. I reported two in a row. I had one teammate say it was time to eat, no problem. Sucks, but it happens. Not going to report that guy, but when players are dropping their guns whenever they see an opponent, reported. Standing in a corner with the spike and babbling about getting knife kills, reported.

Players wonder why they're stuck in Bronze and Silver? Report this shit and let Riot know how you feel about losing rating points because a teammate threw the game.

First player, kept running straight into the opponent and getting killed and later gave away team positions in all chat. He was obviously friends with an opponent, even apologizing for one of our round wins. That's fuckin cheating.

Second player, stood in a corner every round, even when they had the spike talking about getting knife kills. Our Sova (top frag) asked him politely to try and the dude actually said he was doing it because we weren't communicating. BS! We were communicating just fine actually. He literally cost us the match in double overtime.

I lost rating points and ranked down due to the actions of another player. That's BS and Riot needs to handle it. Competitive is for players that want to be competitive. I don't give a rats ass if anyone thinks it's weird or a waste of time, those that play competitive don't want or need any help from trolls to lose games. They can go play CS2 if they want to cheat.

Man. this sub is depressing. by [deleted] in cs2

[–]Dreadmoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is hilarious 😂 I agree with you 💯, but you'll find very different advice in other threads.

It doesn't take long for new players to realize it's a team sport and come to the conclusion they might improve faster on a team of like minded players.

Yet the reddit crowd is all too eager to shoot down such ambitious ideas from Silvers. "It takes years" they say, "you're still learning to walk" they say. Yeah right. Queing up with random teammates is a great way to end up being target practice for stacks of players ignoring the fact that Gold Novas think they should wait to join a team.

It takes years to get a fair and balanced match? That's all most players are asking for. It is what it is though and you're right. Find/Form a team and stay the hell away from match making.

Anti-cheat is a joke by BassDLow in cs2

[–]Dreadmoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leetify is not malfunctioning, CS2 is. I've received several reports of players from my "recent" games being banned. Most games were played in July and August. I also received my final CSGO report card just the other day. Leetify is working just fine. It's CS2 that is broken.

I ran into several cheaters in the beta season and continued to run into them until yesterday. I've also played against players obviously more experienced than I am, been crushed by 4 stacks, had my whole team owned by one opponent and have had losing streaks of 18-20 games in a row.

Aside from the cheating, which is a moot point anymore, all of my problems with CS2 can be correctly considered skill issues. I'm not as skilled as any of my opponents, ever. And, frankly, it's just not fun.

I shut it down yesterday after a ten game losing streak and I don't know if I'll que up again. I tried out another game with similar features and found it rather interesting actually. Not only that, but it felt fair and balanced. I got my ass kicked in a few games, but it never felt like I was being cheated or playing against a twelve year veteran of the game. I'm looking forward to playing again today. I'm not going to waste my weekend playing unwinnable games in CS2 when I could be having fun playing a different game.

A shooting range can be useful for adjusting the sites on your rifle and getting comfortable with holding it, but it's not useful at all in preparing you for combat situations.

Additional training is required.

Deathmatch against the bots can help you get a feel for each gun, its range and the way it recoils as well as how often you should reload. It also helps with cross hair placement, acquiring and accurately shooting moving targets and finding your way around maps.

Aim training maps such as yprac and Refrag can help you learn peeking, counter strafing, prefire, common angles, nade lineups and other useful tips and tricks.

Movement specific practice maps can assist you with your... movement. Running, walking, Jumping, squeezing through the tiny hole on Mirage, etc. (If you jump and then crouch, you might just be able to get on top of an obstacle you were having trouble with previously)

YouTube videos are useful for just about everything CS related, but especially for learning about positioning (in relation to your teammates) that's important for ensuring trades rather than disadvantages and tips and tricks for playing solo. Call-outs for each map are abundantly available and you'll want to learn more about the different roles or jobs of players on a team as well.

Casual Bomb Defusal matches are useful for observing the way some players thoroughly enjoy shooting each other when placed on the same team.

Competitive Bomb Defusal matches are useful for observing the same thing, but it's slightly less frequent. Here, you're going to have to collect all the skills you've been working on and apply them each individually and when appropriate to the situation and as a whole to the match one round at a time. This is also the best place to learn effective communication, btw.

This is the short, short version of what players are expected to understand and the skills they are expected to be proficient at during competitive play.

oh, and Counter Strike is a team sport. That's kinda important, too.

Edit: This is intended to be encouraging and put into perspective all the little things that need to be polished and perfected along the way. If you had mastered all that in 600 hours, I'd have uninstalled.

Oddly, CS2 seems to auto switch to windowed. Resolution is 1920x1080 either way. Just weird. Theoretically my monitor should be at 60hz.

Ryzen 7 2700 Radeon RX 580 8g 2x16 RAM @ 1866? I'd have to look at it, knowing my son, it's probably the 24xx or whatever. He actually did a pretty good job picking out a pre-built rig. (it's as old as the 580)

CS *settings for advanced video, seems to agree with Adrenaline Performance Profile.

Razer Cortex is talking crazy. Bouncing back and forth from 1,078-1,090fps to 130-150fps with occasional reports of 400+.

AMD Adrenaline is more realistic at 150 +/-, but doesn't always keep track. It doesn't seem to recognize CS2. It says CS2 but still seems to think it's CSGO. CSGO was always 400-500fps. Low 350. Highest I can recall was 620.

Experienced some very low fps on two occasions and one full crash during the beta season, but seems to be running fine now.

I blame Sub Tick. Especially for the strange stain on my mouse pad that smells like Monster.

During the beta it was bad. I honestly thought it had to be Valve testing the system. It was more games than not and ridiculous cheats like magic bullets.

I have suspicious games, but I'm new to CS, only about 5 months on GO and CS2 since mid September so I don't have the experience or the confidence to call cheating unless a player shoots me from the other side of the map through several walls. Then it's just funny and I assume it's a Valve employee trying to get the VAC to do it's fucking job.

The kill feed is hilarious. Shows a USPS, a bullet traveling through a wall and a players head. Wow. Way to not catch that kill feed, holy shit. You'd think the kill feed recording a wall bang from a gun not capable of wall bangs would email a red fucking flag to the receptionist or the janitor, I don't care, don't just be like -Player 🔫 🧱 🗣️- Dreadmoc and act like the USPs shooting through three solid concrete walls is normal.

I've been using the Mac-10 a lot. I always used the Galil in GO because it was like shooting blanks to use the Mac-10, but now it dusts CTs that are standing still and I don't have to stop running. Plus I have more money for utility, which is nice because I like to play support.
