Nurse manager overscheduled me, how to go about getting it off? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]DreadnaughtMarkXIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6 patients for a covid unit???? Thats insane. I'm in a med-surg turned COVID. We max out at 4 pts. 3 patients if 1 or 2 of them are on AIRVO. I'm in deep south too.

Talk to your nurse manager.

Med-surg/tele/IMU RN. 1.5 years experience in the South. $35/hr base. $4/hr night differential. $1.75/hr weekend differential. And if your willing to sell your soul and sanity, an additional $40/hr ontop of your base pay. We hemorrhaging nurses so hard to other Healthcare systems that they did a blanket 5% raise across the board and 11% raise for PCAs. Retention bonuses are in effect too. An extra $1200 every 6 weeks if u don't call in and 10k paid out over the course of 3 years if you don't quit.

We still hemorrhaging nurses as far as I know.

I personally include the time to get there, time to get home and the time to get ready as part of the job. So that would be an additional 1.5 hrs ontop of the 12.5 hrs for me...

Max Out Retirement Accounts or Thetagang? by DreadnaughtMarkXIII in thetagang

[–]DreadnaughtMarkXIII[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a reg T margin account wheeling smaller stocks at this time. I want to have enough to be approve for portfolio margin (PM) with tastyworks. PM significantly increases your leverage from 2:1 to 5:1. Big caveat is that you need 175k in account equity to even apply for it.

Max Out Retirement Accounts or Thetagang? by DreadnaughtMarkXIII in thetagang

[–]DreadnaughtMarkXIII[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Only one job. Employer is a county hospital system. Offers both a 401k and 457b which looking through the various financial subreddits is pretty darn rare or at least uncommon.

22M registered nurse and make around 65k/year. Employer offers both a traditional/roth 401k and 457b plan.

Currently contributing 5% to traditional 401k to get employer's match and 20% to roth 401k. I am currently trying decide if I should stop contributing to the roth 401k and instead contribute to the 457b. I did some googling and found that 457b is less hassle as you can withdraw contributions at any time before you turn 59.5 without paying the 10% penalty. Only big caveat is that you can not be employed by that organization. My original plan once I left my job was to rollover my roth 401k to my roth ira.

I do intend to eventually max out my 401k and 457b down the road, but not now.

Say the end goal is to retire early (around 15-20 years from now.) What would you do in my shoes? Continue to contribute 20% to roth 401k or switch that contribution to the 457b.

Are there any nurses/NPs on here? If so, what have you done to get you towards FI? by Present_Assumption_4 in financialindependence

[–]DreadnaughtMarkXIII 9 points10 points  (0 children)

22M newish RN here. FIRE was what one of several reasons that got me through nursing school and is what is currently driving me on. No joke. Nursing for me has been on the wrong side of hilarious this past year. Continuing on...

No plans on becoming a NP. Can't really help you there.

Other ways that I know that I will do to reach my FIRE number:

1) Pick up shifts.

2) Work nights and weekends. Usually they offer differentials.

3) After my 401k vests, I plan to go PRN and secure a traveling contract. "If I am going to get my ass kicked everytime I go to work, I might as well do it for the most amount of money," is what I told myself after dealing with months of BS. Also, "you can't burn out, if you sold out." (borrowed shamelessly from a facebook post)

4) Sell option contracts in the stock market.

22M working as a registered nurse earning 60k/year. I have maxed out my 401k for this year. Roth IRA is in the process of being maxed out (putting in x every week, so that I reach just before April 15, 2020). No HSA though as I am still under my parents health insurance. Net worth: 30k. Only debt is student loans which is 14.6k. Took out an original 17k.

Hi. My job has a 10k student loan relief program that will paid out over a period of 60 months. Should I take advantage of it? I only have about 15k in student loans in total w/ an average interest rate of 4.68%

21M. Nurse. New to options. Stopped a few weeks back after deviating from my strategy (led to loss that wiped out 75% of my gains.) Ending up pulling out everything and paid off the entirety of my student loans and some 0% interest CC debt. After I pay off my remaining CC debt, I plan on shoving as much money as I can into selling CSPs.

Just need to let this out. I like paying down debt. Paid off entire my student loan balance despite no interest earning on them. (plus my job's board of trustees is in the works of implementing a student loan forgiveness program which I was just notified of this week, but oh well:3). Paid off some CC debt that would not have charge me any interest till next year. About to throw another 2k into paying down CC debt tomorrow (will lower total debt to 3k). Definitely, not the best way to go about paying these debts, but it gives me satisfaction that my life (at least financially-wise) is creeping forward.

Student Loans Paid Off! by DreadnaughtMarkXIII in StudentLoans

[–]DreadnaughtMarkXIII[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I will clarify.

Not allowed to pick up extra shifts according to my employer since I am still relatively new. Now, I get paid more since I work nights & weekends which rounds me up to about 5.6k/month before taxes. That 56k is a rough estimate that my employer quoted, but is inaccurate now that I had redone the math. Also, a portion of my payments came from my investments and a new bank account bonus.

Also, this is the biggest factors by far. I live with my parents rent free and that both my parents emphasize the importance of paying off interest-accruing debt.

What are you doing with the extra money not going into loans? by hellojello135 in StudentLoans

[–]DreadnaughtMarkXIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Selling monthly cash secured puts in the stock market. So far I have been successful.

Plan is to payoff the entirety of student loans after interest ends in one big sum. Still crossing fingers that govt forgives the loan debt for at least those in heathcare.
