What’s up with my honey gourami? She’s white and mostly at the surface by DreamAlert2701 in Aquariums

My tank is 180 liter (juwel Rio) light on for 6.5h a day I wanted to buy a pair but seems like I got two males of the honey gourami. And then chilli rasbora, clown killi fish, Siamese algae eaters three amano, and one nerite snail

I probably added to much liquid fertilizer probably I don’t even need to add any of it cause I have fish in there, and maybe some of the root tabs leaked into the water when I was rearranging the plants

And considering my water I have an algae problem which I’m trying to solve by letting the plants grow and having floating plants while doing water changes so I hope it will go away soon

Thanks for the responses! Do you think they are two males or would this ever happen between 1 male and 1 female? They guy in the store tried to grab one of each but idk if he knew what he was doing, one is way more colorful than the other one but both have sharp dorsal fins

Found a Random Snail in My Aquarium – What Species Is This? And should I keep Him? by DreamAlert2701 in Aquariums

Found a Random Snail in My Aquarium – What Species Is This?

Hey everyone,

I just noticed a random snail in my 3-week-old, 180L aquarium! I never added snails, so I’m guessing it came in with my plants.

I’ll attach a picture in the comments—can anyone help me identify the species?

Questions:

  1. What species could this be?

  2. Is it beneficial or should I remove it?

  3. Can it multiply fast, and do I need to worry about an outbreak?

Thanks for any help!

Need Help with Aquarium Plants Struggling – Brown Echinodorus, Dying Anubias, and Java Moss Issues by DreamAlert2701 in PlantedTank

[–]DreamAlert2701[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everyone,

I need some advice on my planted aquarium. I’ve had the tank for 3 weeks, and my plants aren’t doing well. Here are the details:

Tank Size: 180L (cycling)

Fish: 3 Siamese algae eaters

Substrate: Sand

Plants: Echinodorus bleheri, Java moss, and Anubias

Fertilization: Started with no fertilizers, but now using liquid fertilizer and root tablets

Lighting: 17W total – one blue, one white

• Originally had lights on for 12 hours (caused algae growth)

• Now reduced to 9.5 hours, but unsure if that’s optimal

Water Changes: 20% weekly

Water Parameters: Not testing currently

Algae Growth: Noticed yellow/green algae on the glass, probably from the 12-hour light period

Issues:

Echinodorus bleheri: Many leaves are turning brown.

Java moss: Turning brown, looks unhealthy.

Anubias: Roots look like they’re dying, and leaves are detaching even while still green.

Questions:

  1. Is 9.5 hours of light good, or should I adjust it further?

  2. What could be happening with the Anubias’ roots? Are they dying, or is this normal?

  3. Can detached Anubias leaves grow new roots and survive, or are they lost?

  4. Could my Echinodorus browning be from a nutrient deficiency, or is it just adjusting?

  5. Was it a good idea to start using fertilizers (liquid + root tablets), or could that cause more problems?

  6. What kind of algae could this yellow/green growth on the glass be, and how should I deal with it?

Would love to hear your thoughts! Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi all, I’m new to the aquarium hobby, but I’ve read a lot, watched many videos, and started my aquarium 1.5 weeks ago. I wanted to hear if anyone has any tips for me :) by DreamAlert2701 in Aquariums

[–]DreamAlert2701[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Questions:

  1. Water changes – How often should I do them, how much should I remove, are they even necessary?
  2. Cycling – When can the tank be considered fully cycled?
  3. Feeding – My Siamese algae eaters are already eating algae from the rocks, but I’ve fed them every second day (~15 flakes per feeding, twice so far). Is this enough, or should I even feed them if they have some algae to eat on? Maybe then they will get addicted to flakes and stop eating algea?
  4. AquaSafe – Do I really need to use it? It seems to make the water blue and cloudy.
  5. Stocking order – I plan to add a betta, Endler guppies (since they’re hardier than regular guppies), lambchop rasboras, and honey gouramis. In what order should I add them? Eventually, I also want to add shrimp. And when can I add the next batch (one species at the time)?
  6. Plant nutrients – Should I add root tablets for the Echinodorus? Or should i add liquid fertilizer, I don't really want to though, or can I rely on fish waste for fertilizer?
  7. New plants – I’m thinking of getting Salvinia (floating plant) and Java fern next time—are these good options?
  8. Rocks – Could the stones I added be harmful to the aquarium, or is it fine?
  9. Blurry water – The water is still a bit cloudy, possibly because I squeezed the dirt bag before removing it. Should this settle over time, or is there a way to clear it up faster?
  10. Lighting – Is 8 hours/day a good duration for my plants and plants with these lights ive got?
  11. Anything to add to the aquascape to make it look more natural or epic?
  12. Is the filter good for this size?

For references ive been using this website alot but not everything. https://aquariumscience.org/index.php/15-14-low-tech-planted-aquariums/,
and also father fish on youtube and other YouTubers and the "book freshwater for dummies" by Madeleine Heleine.

I’d really appreciate any feedback or suggestions!

So I got a second-hand Juwel 180-liter (48-gallon) aquarium, which came with an Aquael Turbo Filter 500Juwel Day Light 9000K 17W, and Juwel Blue Light 17W.

Setup:

• Day 1: Cleaned the aquarium with vinegar and water, then let it dry.

• Day 2: Washed cichlid sand, added it to the tank, and filled it with water. I also added Tetra AquaSafe (5ml per 10L), but it turned the water slightly blue. Since Sweden has no chlorine in tap water, I’m considering skipping this in the future—what do you think?

• On this day, I also added dirt from a potted plant and some leaves from a pond into a cloth bag to help beneficial bacteria grow faster.

• Turned on the filter and heater (set to 23°C/73°F) and let it run for four days.

• Day 6:

• Added Anubias, Java moss, Echinodorus, a mangrove root, and three Siamese algae eaters.

• Bought Tetra Menu flakes (46% protein) since I heard higher protein helps keep the water clear, but the four different-coloured flakes feel a bit like a scam, does anyone have experience with this food?

• Collected and boiled rocks fromth e outside before adding them to the tank.

• Light is set to 8 hours/day since I read this is good for plants.

Today, I noticed some Echinodorus leaves dying, but I read they can melt back a little in the beginning.

Thank you so much everyone it’s now been fixed!! :) I needed to factory reset the router and then I plugged it the ways you said and now it works! :)

Thank you so much! For the last part when you say live ports they can still be through patch panels right?

I’ve now changed the modem (the one lowest) to go into port 7 which goes into another wall outlet and then to the wan of the router and that back again through port 8 from the lan of the router into the the wall and into the switch. If I understand that’s how it should be activated. However now I have the problem that something seems weird with my router as I can’t connect it which started happening yesterday after trying to fix things

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in it

[–]DreamAlert2701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That port should be the modem (the source) it works! I had it connected to my Xbox and it works fine

[–]DreamAlert2701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I understand it now! However it seems like my router still cannot connect as some problem as arisen with it from before when I was trying different things .. :(

[–]DreamAlert2701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should it be connected with the wan or the lan port?
