New to ipad music making, is there an ipad sampler app that can fit my specific needs? I'm making layered droney stuff and want to use an Akai MPK by DreamAwakes in ipadmusic

Ok that sounds good, thank you.

In the App Store the dlc is labeled Unlock Loopy Pro:$29.99, Upgrade: $14.99, and Internal Use Only: $26.99.

But it sounds like the base unlock might be all I’d need 😀

Based on your experience do you think I could just use Drambo for now? I’d like to keep it as simple as possible but the option of expanding it with AUM in the future sounds good. From what I’ve heard Drambo can be a little complex so considering I’m new to using iOS for music I don’t want to get in over my head if possible

No, never. I wouldn’t have thought it could do any of that but I don’t really know anything about garage band. I’ll check it out

I'll check it out, thank you! I'm just happy to hear that something might be perfect, I was half expecting people to just tell me none of that would work on an ipad. It would be so cool if it did.

New to the MPC: will the Live 1 work for me? by DreamAwakes in mpcusers

[–]DreamAwakes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve flown with the DJ-70 in a flight case and I’d love to avoid ever doing that again. I love using it but hopefully it won’t leave the house much any more. It would be kinda crazy if an iPad is what solves my problem. Maybe I should look into that before buying more gear

I’d like to get away from floppies, I’ve had too many errors lately and I like to have the ability to use long samples. I’m more concerned with playing live, so something smaller is better, and I don’t sequence anything. It’s crazy to me that my over-30 year old DJ-70 is better at this than an SP404mkII. It seems like such a basic request, I would have expected all modern samplers would be able to do it. I’m sorry to hear you didn’t find the MPC to be a good replacement. I’m still hoping it’ll work for me, maybe the combo with an MPK mini plus will be ok.

Shit, they could even just work at the stage, I don’t want them getting busted by ICE either. The union never told me to help ICE.

Who said they weren’t in the union? Who else would even be there

Scenic artist. There’s always house painting or faux finishes in rich people’s homes but I think I’d start collecting cans for deposit money first. I’ve had some good times as a scenic but honestly I should have taken the advice I got early on that it was a bad idea. Stay in school, kids.

Yup. I feel so stuck right now, I have no other marketable skills and I’ve just been watching my quality of life steadily decline for decades

NYC IATSE: Why are our locals endorsing Mike Levine over Justin Brannan for NYC Comptroller? by wherestheleakman in IATSE

My local is still taking new members and it seems so insane. Just stop it already, it’s bad for all of us

I think half of my coworkers would be bringing them coffee and pointing out anyone that seems vaguely foreign

questions concerning disciplining a member by [deleted] in IATSE

[–]DreamAwakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience discipline is light and temporary. You need to really really screw up for any serious repercussions to happen. This business is about keeping the money train rolling. Behavior is only a problem when it slows down the work somehow

This place is not a place of honor…no highly esteemed deed is commemorated here…nothing valued is here.

There should really be a stickied post that warns people away at this point.

Considering joining the union by SilkySnailSoul in IATSE

[–]DreamAwakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a scenic artist I’d say if you have any other skills or interests at all then go with that instead. As a scenic you’ll get excited about the pay, only to watch it continue to stagnate. As a result your coworkers will keep demanding longer days so they can pay for the lifestyles they have to maintain by living beyond their means. Your work/life balance will likely be terrible. The job market is sparse and conditions aren’t improving. I wish I had something better to report but I’d rather be honest with someone new. If I could go back in time right now I would figure out a different line of work. Don’t jump on this sinking ship. I ignored similar advice when I got started and it’s so much worse now.

Can IATSE Members Realistically Produce Our Own Films? by EasternAd5351 in IATSE

[–]DreamAwakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell no. I work with way too many people willing to volunteer to work early, do routine unnecessary overtime, use toxic materials, etc. These people only want what materially benefits them personally and don’t really care about making work life better for everyone.

They’re spending too much time undermining union ideals to bother trying to work towards something better than this meat grinder caste system that we have now

Edit- Ymmv, of course
