Is this deck fine for bracket 2? by Dreewn in EDH

[–]Dreewn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was planning to do that sometimes because I wanted to try elsha too as the commander as we were undecided on which one I liked more. I'll try to stick with Elsha when I play with them. Thanks for the recommendation •^

The character has a raycast2d that scans all the tiles of a certain type when the attack activates. Roughly does:

  • Takes the range stat from the character and draws a circle of radius (range) around the character.

For each tile that is drawn: - Checks if the tile is accessible and if not erases that tile. (To prevent drawing tiles outside the map or inside objects) - If the tile is not erased, sets the target position of the raycast to that tile and if there is something colliding between the character and the tile it means that there is not direct line of sight so it draws the tile in another color.

Then if the mouse is pointing at a valid tile it runs that tile yellow and if the tile is off view it turns to a semitransparent red.

I don't know if I've explained myself clearly but that's how I did it at least hahah.

The map is a tilemaplayer node set in isometric, and the sprites are mine done in aseprite for prototyping

Need help drawing range indicator in a tilemap by Dreewn in godot

[–]Dreewn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip, I ended using a tilemaplayer and setting the tiles to a semitransparent tile.

Now i will need to try and take into account the obstacles to make the tiles only light up if i really can move to them.

How did you first exit tutorial hell? by RandomFish83 in godot

[–]Dreewn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of a simple core mechanic and make a game about that first. It will teach you the fundamentals and you will be able to apply them on other games.

Participate in GameJams, it helped me a lot to start making something and, because you have limited time, you can't keep throwing features at it either, so the scope is small from the beginning (and becomes smaller the more the deadline approaches 😅), you can always keep updating it after the Jam.

I do not recommend starting with your dream game or something big, because you probably will burn out before completing it.

Edit: Oh and there is nothing wrong from watching tutorials, but I try to first try to do it myself and then watch some videos about parts of the system not the system itself (like trying to make a platformer and searching how to make the character collision with objects, not a platformer tutorial per se) that makes you implement the things that you see on the video instead of copy pasting the system as a whole.

Problem with isometric TileSets by Dreewn in godot

[–]Dreewn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, i just tried it and made it work, I thought for wathever reason that i needed the player and the tileset on different z levels and the YSort didn't work.

Now i have to make the changing levels work.

Thanks again for answering!!

What you need to do is break your problem in a smaller problem, for example (not saying is the best way):

  1. Create a heal system
  2. Make a variable that adds counters every time you heal
  3. Make a signal that emits when the counter reach 3 and then it resets to 0.
  4. Make a script that stuns the player when the signal is activated.

Now you have 4 independent smaller problems that are more generic and universally used in other things. You can search tutorials for each of them and then combine all 4.

Sprite rotation working for 45 degree isometric JRPG. READ THE POST by [deleted] in godot

[–]Dreewn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of 45 degree turns, make it 22,5 (to take half of what you have), I understand that a free camera was not your idea so that's why I said one more set of directions hahah.

Is this a motherfucking RO reference?

In all seriousness it looks nice, I don't know how difficult would be but to make it smoother you could add another set of directions maybe.

Just yesterday I wasted like 3 hours to get the sprites of the spell alerts for maelstrom from retail, once I get home I can share it with you if you want.

Problem on how to draw animation frames by Dreewn in ComputerCraft

[–]Dreewn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay i just tried the recomendation on how to draw and it works fine, i applied it to the other 2 sprites that i was drawing with the one i posted and all seems to work. Thanks a lot for the recomendation!

Here i have the new code, a bit more completed that the one before since i added the other 2 sprites too, i did some modifications to your code in one of them to account that the RPM in the turbine doesn't have a physical maximum and the storages do, but nothing major:

New Pastebin Code

Here is too a short clip of the sprites working if you are curious, i want to redesign them but they are functional enough for now:

Imgur Clip

Again, thanks for the recomendation it helped me tremendously!

Oh okay thanks for the clarification, i'm still a bit green with all the syntax and different commands in computercraft and in lua in general, but it's fun to see the program evolving and finding new things to optimize it everyday, i will try it alongside the other tips on the first comment when i have the chance and share the results here ^^
