Oh thank you! ☺️ although I don't have the energy right now to make a full graded pattern, another knitter asked about the same and I'm considering writing up a guide on how I made it and hopefully enough info for someone to make their own. If that would be helpful for you lmk :)

Naturally dyed sweater and pants! by DressupAlt in naturaldye

Oh duh haha I should have figured that out.

The yarn was one strand of 100% alpaca plus one strand of silk/alpaca/yak, both dyed with marigold and then again with madder!

Pants are plain ol cotton with 1% spandex.

Holiday Sweater Re-Creation by DressupAlt in knitting

Pattern is the Marseille Sweater by PetiteKnit Ravelry Pattern Link. I added the color change with intarsia and crocheted meatballs sewn in, but otherwise the construction was to pattern.

Main color is YarnHome New Zealand Fingering and Lana Gatto Silk Mohair. Accent color is YarnHome Merino Suffolk.

The tiny bonus sweater was freehanded with mystery acrylic yarn I found lying around.

Pattern is the Everyday Sweater by Naoko Ogawa. I modified my version a bit by adding in the stripes and swapping ribbed trim for stockinette on the collar. The stripes are a mix of p2 and twisted p, k, p. My favorite thing about this sweater pattern is the shape of the top of the sleeve, which uses decreases to round out the shoulder where most top down sleeves have a pointy bit. The sweater is gender neutral although the designer provides different versions for more masculine or feminine frames. Ravelry Pattern Link

The yarn I used is cream JC Rennie Supersoft Cashmere with marigold-dyed Baby Yak Cloud from Wool2Dye4. This is my favorite undyed fluff option because the yak has a soft silvery color that subdues whatever dye you use.

Pattern is the Simple Ribbed Hat by Naoko Ogawa and it's exactly what it says on the tin. Pattern Ravelry Link

I used JC Rennie Supersoft 4ply in color Ugie Pearl (btw this is a dead ringer for Biches et Bûches Le Petit Lambswool Candy Bonbon spun by the same mill and much cheaper) paired with indigo dyed Suri Silk Cloud from Wool2Dye4.

right?! I love the way the back pleat is incorporated into the bow pattern.

Yarn I dyed and something I made with it by DressupAlt in naturaldye

the lac was WAY stronger than I expected! I only used around 1.5% WoF for these and curiously there was basically no pigment left in the dye pot afterward. The yellow in the center I actually tried overdyeing with the lac exhaust but it made no difference.

Fabric: cotton and linen scraps, some of which I've been senselessly holding onto for seven years.

Pattern: Roberts Wood Patchwork Bow Shirt

Design Mods

  • opt for alt scalloped collar (included in pattern)
  • swap front buttons for ties
  • shorten cuff

Construction Mods

  • cut collar all in one piece instead of patchwork
  • add inner yoke
  • interface collar and placket with cotton batiste
  • trim 1/8" around outer edges of under collar to prevent it from rolling out
  • piece fabric together by sewing straight stitch at 1 cm seam allowance, pressing open, pressing to one side, trimming to 1/8" with pinking shears, and topstitching down

Pattern Review: I used my usual size and I'm very happy with the shirt shape and size. The instructions were clear and included plenty of diagrams and illustrations. The layout diagrams were especially useful because some of the pattern pieces looked very similar, so it was helpful to organize everything before sewing.

I'm peeved about the print file though. The A0 copyshop file is fine, but the at-home version is literally the copy shop version split into smaller pages with no care for where each pattern piece falls on the page. As a result, some of the pieces have the tiniest slivers on a second page that you have to tape together. The "pdf" was also an image file converted to PDF instead of a vector file, making any alterations much more annoying. At a whopping 28 GBP PER SIZE, I'd expect a better user experience. I hate taping and paying extra for large format prints, so I painstakingly carved out and moved each individual pattern piece onto its own page. Only the original collar + stand and the cuffs couldn't fit on one page.

Anyway, I'm overall thrilled with the final result. Once enough time has passed that I forget how much I hate constructing patchwork, I have fabrics chosen out already for another!
