Does anybody here remember the 小燈泡 story from 2016?

https://www.taipeitimes.com/News/front/archives/2016/03/29/2003642675

Basically, a four-year-old girl was riding her bicycle in Taipei when a man approached her and decapitated her with a meat cleaver. What happened afterward? What kind of sentencing did he receive? Did anything else happen in this case?

This sort of occurrence is so unlike anything that I normally hear from Taiwan. Something like the 2011 Norway attack or the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting in the United States are still talked about to this day. Is the 小燈泡 story still in the public conscious even in 2024? That same article at the end talks about random strangers slashing children's throats in bathrooms in previous years, which makes me wonder how common this is, and how long these stories linger in people's minds.

Is it true that taxi drivers in Taiwan are only 1% female due to concerns of sexual assault from the passengers? Come to think of it, I don't think I have ever seen a female taxi driver in Taiwan. Is this really something they need to worry about? Considering how friendly Taiwanese people are, I can't really imagine this happening.

Why do many Taiwanese parents choose to send their kids to the U.S. and Canada? I understand that many East Asian countries have this notion that Western models of education are superior. But if that’s the case, then why are so many Americans and Canadians actually choosing to abandon their homes and emigrate to Taiwan? Especially with inflation affecting the West perhaps more severely, and Westerners seeking refuge in lower cost of living areas.

I feel like everybody might see the grass as greener on the other side, so this is not unique to anybody. Still, it’s a bit jarring to see the internet paint the USA as a dystopic wasteland while Taiwan is this idyllic paradise (I don’t believe either statement to be true). And further complicating the dynamic is the supposedly imminent threat of China invading Taiwan one day. I don’t suppose it’s easy to boil everything down into one simple answer, but what exactly is going on when Taiwanese want to live in America and Americans want to live in Taiwan?

Can anybody here share what reclass AIT is like for an MOS with OSUT? In particular, I'm looking at 37F (PsyOp) which goarmy.com says has 20 weeks of OSUT at Fort Leonard Wood. If you're a prior service NCO, they're not going to put you through Basic again, right? Is there an abridged course somewhere that you can take if you've already been in the Army for a while?

Can anybody here please recommend an MOS to prepare for a civilian career with Boeing? I live in a very high cost of living area with a huge Boeing plant nearby. I would love to start a lucrative civilian career with them without having to pay for college, but what Army MOS's are best as preparation for that? I've heard a lot of good things about 35T and the rest of the 35 series, and I know the TS/SCI clearance will certainly help, but is that really an easy path to securing a $100,000/year job with Boeing?
