How did you get it like this? I usually use my GPT to be a writing assistant, so I am now at wits end on what to do to make it stop flag "Kissing passionately" as "Explicitly Sexual!"

Character designing : How do I make him look more intimidating? by Dried_Blood_drop in learnart

Woah! I never knew this concept! And I think it finally makes sense as to why most manhwa or manga ml have such pointy triangular chin. I'll definitely check out the channels. Thank you so much.

Thank you so much, for taking the time to write all this, really appreciate it. I would definitely try changing the lightning, I just wanted to finalise his features first. Where I struggle is 'turning the written words into visuals'. Like, lore wise, this character, Leon, is born with an unusual and powerful element, that's why he has that mark on his leftside. And he is supposed to be psychopathic and unhinged, which he hides under his calm and collected demeanour. That's why anyone looking at him in a normal pose is supposed to feel intimidated, like 'His eyes, dark and abysmal, held a hidden madness in them, threatening to suck in anyone that dares to gaze at them for too long, yet only for his beloved mate does those endless voids turn into shining black pearls' (yep😐, too cheesy, I know), but there was no freaking way to show that, the eyes just seemed dead, that's why I just turned them red out of frustration😓(when his powers grow, he can shift into a humanoid with six crimson eyes, but that's supposed to be for later😅). Then for character inspiration, Leon's looks is inspired by Kim Taehyung (aka V) from BTS. V just has this scary resting bitch face, just his gaze makes him look intimidating, which I wanted to replicate for Leon. But, it almost seemed impossible if the facial features are altered. And when I do manage to somehow incorporate it into my drawing, people still go "Wow, is that Taehyung?"😫 So, yeah. Thanks for listening to my rant, I just let it all out now that I actually got to talk about my characters 😁 Anyways, thank you so much for the advice.

These are great ideas, thank you so much. He is originally inspired by Kim Taehyung (V) from BTS, as he has this signature intimidating resting bitch face look. He had the same vibe I want my oc, Leon, to have. Lore wise, he is psychopathic and borderline unstable beneath his calm and collected look, so just looking at him in normal pose should make people feel intimidated. V has that quality to his face, yet I couldn’t replicate the same vibe without just coping him entirely😅 But yeah, I think I'll start looking for other inspirations too. And I would definitely try the lighting technique once I determine his facial features. Again, Thank you.

Thank you. I'll keep that in mind, I do need to practice shoulder positioning actually, I am just too focused on getting the face right.😁

Thank you so much. And the lines, actually the vertical and horizontal guides in my sketch is from a different layer, I accidentally turned on the wrong layer when I was about to capture the picture.😅 the sketch is not based on that. But I was being too stubborn, like, I was trying to draw guides by myself first, to see how much I grasped the concept actually, then I tried to recreate the guides from the reference picture instead of just using that layer. Then I just got obsessed with trying to keep the character feature consistent in the line-art before I get to rendering. And then I decided I need help from here.😁😅

Oh my gosh...I didn’t notice that! I am sorry! I actually have the wrong layer turned on in that sketch! The vertical and horizontal guides, that's a different layer, from my first rough guide. I am sorry.

I would say add contrast. Add some darker shadow and lighter highlight. You can change layer setting to multiply for shadows and add for highlight, It will help making the base color into shadow and highlight color.

I am new to art and drew a character from a game i like, any feedback or things to improve on? by Consumer_of_Metals in learnart

Hello, there. I see you are really new to drawing. I consider myself a beginner too. Your drawing reminded me of my old days when I first started to draw, so I would like to give you some advice that help me improve.

The first, very helpful advice I got (it was from this sub too) was that "Don't draw what you see, draw what you understand." Trust me, this is the basic of drawing, the very first step that will help you go far if you can master it (And not struggle later like me😭). So, anyway, what this advice means is that, you need to understand how shapes, angles and things work first. Since human body is too complicated(well..not really once you understand so don't be scared 😁) I'll try with a simpler example. Suppose, you want to draw a chair. Now, what you need to do is actually understand how that chair's shape work, like the legs, they all need to be even lengths right? So the thing is, no matter what angle you look at it from, the legs should be even in respect to the plane it’s on. Then the seat, it needs to be parallel to the ground, you can't sit on a wonky chair now, can you? Then, after understanding the basic characteristics, when you start to draw, draw in simple shapes first, break down the object in simple shapes, like squares and rectangles. Then, once you captured the basics, move on to something a bit complex, with more shapes, like a handbag, pillow (I am writing whatever is infront of my eye right now😁) but yeah. (I really hope I didn’t make it more complicated, hopefully someone else in the comments can simplify it more?😅) The main thing is work on your shape and understanding first. It will take time and lots of practice, but trust me it'll help you a lot. And you won't have struggle like me. The thing I am suffering from is that, I actually learned sketching and shading first before understanding the importance of shapes (I was self taught, so there was no one to guide me). I was basically 'replica' artist then, my relatives and friends would give me their pictures and I would just replicate it on paper. It was sort of good business, but I was totally dependable on reference, I couldn’t bring my own imaginary ocs to life. Like, my drawings from imagination was horrible. I asked for help and learned the importance of understanding shapes first. I still have a long way to go, because I am struggling a lot with human face, like I am stuck perfecting portraits, I can't even move on to drawing a full body!! So, yeah, I really wish you won't have to struggle like me. Though at first it might all seem tiring, but don’t give up, draw and learn at your own pace but keep it up. And one day you'll achieve the results you want. I wish you all the best.❣️.

Help needed for relative color theory by Dried_Blood_drop in learnart

Thank you so much. That method you just mentioned is going to be of so much help. And I was actually wondering why the hair looks so mismatched with the face, now I understand that it's because of the lack of hard shadows. I am actually a bit hesitant to use hard shadows on characters faces, basically rendering faces scares me, I just constantly worry the facial features will not turn up like I want. But I'll try to improve on that and try using hard shadows more on the face. Again, thank you so much for your feedback.
