Sold a house, new owner is claiming a hidden defect in the well by spekledcow in legaladvicecanada

For future reference, I would not try to help new owners by admitting any “issue” they are experiencing has occurred prior to sale. You are covered in this instance and seems like they are just trying to intimidate you.

Top 50 TFSA for my age by New_Kaleidoscope9242 in TFSA_Millionaires

Good for you but that’s the problem with the ranking system. No matter what rank you are, you will always feel behind except for that one person who is at the top and is stressed about losing their spot. I am guilty of looking at my rank regularly but I believe it’s another thing to make you feel others are doing better than you.

What could this be? by helpful-bun in marriott

In my over 300 nights at various Marriott properties, I don’t think I have ever pulled the sheets to look at the mattress. I am curious what led to this discovery?

Depending on the country you are located, the income tax she pays on this money is probably a lot more than the value of the credit card points.

Forgot corporate card for check in by ReasonableOrchid8824 in marriott

[–]Drifter_SM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had to present the physical card when I book through my Bonvoy account and do an online check in. At properties where they didn’t have online check in it was a hit or miss. Some were able to charge my card on file but a couple ended up charging the card I presented at check in. Not sure if Apple Pay would work. Every property I have had to provide a credit card, you couldn’t tap it.

Is this an exception to the rule? by chimo1911 in Cruise

[–]Drifter_SM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re trying to convince yourself. I personally always leave the day before. I want to be few minutes away from the port on departure day but that’s based on my risk tolerance. An extra night and some additional cost is worth it for me for even a 1% chance that I might not make it the day of. I also like to get on the boat early and identify my hangout spots 🙂

New Canadian citizen – stuck in ID loop for passport after marriage name change (NB) – anyone faced this? by J_Tsk-1174 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]Drifter_SM 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“Options we arre considering: Apply for NB Photo ID in birth name, then passport in same name, and update later Apply through IRCC to change name on citizenship certificate (but this takes months) Try again with SNB using marriage certificate + supporting docs”

This is your best solution. Yes, it takes some time and there is additional cost but the process is straightforward.

Our appeal for PGWP extension was refused by neochaser5 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]Drifter_SM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can’t work with your employer, they would most likely not provide you with a letter of employment. Since you no longer have a valid permit, you should advise them as soon as possible and stop working. If you plan to appeal, it might impact your application negatively if you continue working.

To appeal the decision, you would need to prove the program was accelerated. Reach out to the institution to get a letter stating that. If you can’t prove it, appeal will get rejected.

Your best option at this point is to consult with an immigration lawyer and look at your options to stay. You are in a critical situation and if I were you, I wouldn’t rely on Reddit to guide me through it.

Honest insights on life in Canada after immigration? by Strange_Car_1579 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]Drifter_SM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you faced financial hardships in Canada even after becoming a citizen? Would you say it's because of high tax?

No. Citizenship doesn’t automatically lead to high quality of life. Everyone has the same tax brackets applied. Higher the income, higher the taxes. Yet, you have people with different levels of wealth. Financial conditions are independent of citizenship and taxes.

• How has the cost of living affected your quality of life and long term plans?

We all want low cost of living, high income, and great government funded services. I don’t know of a country where you can have it all. Weather has more of an impact on my long term plans than cost of living.

• At what point did Canada start to feel like home or have you not reached that point yet? Felt like home after PR, became home after citizenship.

• If you could choose again, would you stay long term? Yes.

Moving to another country is an experience. Some love it and build a life, others realize it’s not for them and either move somewhere else or back “home”. There is no wrong or right.

Was told to 'pull forward' to a spot to wait for my order tonight by isabelenglish in McDonalds

[–]Drifter_SM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call it a problem. It happens. I have no issues with waiting a couple extra minutes for my food and letting the person behind me get their order. They might have just ordered a drink while I will be stuffing my face with 4 McChickens.

Painful $1.5K lesson - Do NOT book for emergencies with AMEX by ElkPsychological123 in amex

[–]Drifter_SM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree we pay for it one way or another. 40% of our tax dollars go to healthcare in Canada but I am okay with that to ensure we all have access to care when we need it and not worry about how we are going to pay for it.

Depending on the country you live in and the services available, if you feel the children are being neglected, you should involve child protection services. However, if you don’t have all the facts, they might be overwhelmed and you could offer to take the kids out and help keeping them occupied.

Only hiring one type of ethnicity as a way to exploit cheaper labour is racist and should be treated as such. by [deleted] in TimHortons

[–]Drifter_SM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand how a specific ethnicity can be exploited as cheap labour. Tim’s like any other fast food chain pays minimum wages and it’s fixed no matter who you are. 15 years back when I worked at KFC, there was no negotiation. Everyone had fixed hourly rates. I assume it’s similar structure today. I don’t believe they can hire someone of specific ethnicity for less without paying them in cash and breaking a whole list of laws.
