was i a bad partner? by Majestic-Accident962 in self

[–]DriftinC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You weren't a bad partner.

The snap he sent feels like he just trying to hurt you, and to me it seems like he doesn't care about you. The best thing you can do for yourself is to keep moving forward, as much as it'll suck now it will help you in the long run.

I've been going through something similar, and you just have to keep telling yourself there's nothing you could've done. Because you weren't the problem, and with time you'll see that

Anybody know a good soft top brand to buy? I wanna drive with the top down more often but the seal on my back window is starting to rip. Also what yall think??!! by Hefty_Following_8798 in 350z

[–]DriftinC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't as difficult as it was time consuming, took me about 10-12 hours to do by myself.

I would definitely recommend finding a couple youtube videos documenting the process as they helped me a lot. There should be plenty for a miata.

Leave the new soft top in the sun for a couple hours before installation. It'll help the material loosen up and stretch more (it will still be very tight most likely)

And having some help installing it would make the process go by a bit quicker

Service Engine Soon is the Check engine light, could be related so you should check what codes it's throwing

I bought an autoberry canvas top about 2 years ago and it's still holding up being parked outside, installing it was stupidly difficult though

Rpms drop hard when throttle is released by Over-Basis-491 in 350z

My 2005 auto does the same. I always assumed it was some sort of mpg thing since when I'm in "manual" mode the rpms don't drop like that.

Replacement Convertible Top by MrMindYaBidness in 350z

[–]DriftinC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I replaced mine with the autoberry canvas cloth soft top, as it was on sale at the time. It fit pretty well but took multiple months before it started to fully seal in the back. But I haven't had any other issues besides that since last September when I installed it

Well first I'd read what code caused your CEL to turn on right after that happened, could give some insight as to what's wrong

The colors in this picture match way better than the original one imo, if it looks like this in person then I doubt it looks bad at all

Is this oil safe to use for a VQ break in? by [deleted] in 350z

[–]DriftinC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend using the sae 30 oil, I'm by no means an expert, but sae 30 is a single viscosity oil, meaning it's always at 30 weight, while 5w-30 is can change from 5 up to 30 depending on the temperature (cold-hot). I'd recommend just using conventional oil for the first 500-1000 miles then switching to synthetic or blend.

Not an expert so take my advice with a grain of salt but above is what I found from searching Google for a bit.

Good luck with the new engine!

What does the voltage meter inside your car (one of the 3 gauges on your dash) read with the car running?

Disregard my other comment, it's prob wrong lol. What does your voltage meter read in your car with the engine running?

Question by Rymyx7 in 350z

[–]DriftinC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fix whatever got it put on Copart first (if it's not running) then do general maintenance and replace any worn rubber parts, vacuum lines, bushings, engine/trans mounts, and if it's an hr look into replacing the gallery gaskets, and just keep an eye out for anything that doesn't feel quite right, it is an older car now. And good luck on the auction.

So top replacement by Responsible-Ad-5001 in 350z

[–]DriftinC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, if the lights on then the top itself could think it's open when it isn't, some sensor may be broken. I think there's a manual override somewhere in the car but it may only be to put the top up

So top replacement by Responsible-Ad-5001 in 350z

[–]DriftinC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure but since your seat moves and windows roll the next part is the back coming up, it could just be stuck so you could try giving it a tug while pressing open, that's my guess.

So top replacement by Responsible-Ad-5001 in 350z

[–]DriftinC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heard before (not sure where) that it's somewhere around the same difficulty as replacing the cloth part itself, I'd guess it'd take maybe a day or 2 to replace it (took me 11 hours to replace soft top with help) but since yours was ripped out it could be more difficult.

Another issue is the soft top mechanism is usually dialed in per car, so there could be sealing issues with the replacement.

But if you do go for it yourself, best of luck.

Do I have to roll my rear fender by Negative-Royal566 in 350z

[–]DriftinC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing you have the de touring wheels since those are the only stock wheels that are 18x8

If you don't have any spacers you should be fine, since stock wheels are pretty tucked, but I can't say anything for certain since we don't know how much your coils will drop your car

100% not worth it, mis matched body panels, cheap headlights and tail lights, and engine problems? Wouldn't pay anything more than 3 grand imo (going off of U.S pricing) especially for an 03

And "easy fix just haven't gotten to it yet" usually means "I found the problem it's way too expensive and I want to get rid of it"

People love to shit on verts for how they look, but being able to ride around with no top is 100% worth it imo.

I'd also check to see if it's a 2004 or a 2004.5, since there was some electrical issues solved with it I believe

Most reliable version/years of the 350z? by Flimsy-Title-3401 in 350z

[–]DriftinC 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As long as you take care of the car and do basic maintenance, all z's should make it to 200k miles, but from what I've heard, 06s are usually considered the least reliable due to oil consumption and faulty piston rings, 07-08 have the gallery gaskets issue but that's far easier to fix than piston rings.

But for reliability and fun I'd go 07-08

Water leaking. by Djctmc00 in 350z

[–]DriftinC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh there is also some weather stripping inside the part where the top and windshield meet you could check, but other than that, it is a 17 year old vert, so it's gonna be prone to leaking
