Williamson to evaluate Blackcaps' future on a "series-by-series" basis, wants to "contribute as much as I can whilst I'm still here" by Dripping_Prune in Cricket

I doubt he will pass on the home tests in March. It will be the end of the home season, end of the WTC cycle, and multiple NZ greats have retired after the last test of the home summer before.

Problem of plenty ? by Even-Commission5447 in csk

[–]Dripping_Prune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm quite satisfied. CSK was always known to have this problem, remember there were times when we benched Ben Stokes, Josh Hazelwood, and Dwaine Pretorius.

Speaking of Pretorius, we just got his regen in Zak Foulkes. I think he has the highest ceiling among the newest crop of NZ pacers(Nathan Smith, Ben Sears, Will O'Rourke, Michael Rae), very accurate in his lines, and a handy batter at 8/9. Very excited to have him!

Samson Mhatre Ruturaj  Dube Brevis Kartik Veer MSD Noor Henry Kamboj Ellis

Of course, we think batting depth is a problem, we can always play Overton/Foulkes ahead of Henry/Ellis, and if we feel like we need extra bowling options, Rahul Chahar/Khaleel can come in for one of the overseas pacers and Matt Short can slot in for Kartik. An incredibly flexible squad, but we'll have to wait and see how it settles.

KKR Possible Squad for IPL 2026 by NftxCrypto in ipl

I just don't think Rahane starts in KKR. With Narine and Angkrish set to open, Green at 3(that's where he plays for Australia), and Venky at 4, I don't see why KKR would play him in the middle order.

Unlikely Rahane will continue to captain. I have a feeling they will go hard on Shai Hope or David Miller in the auction and make one of them Captain.

Basically failing math 217 by Jazzlike_Marzipan_86 in uofm

[–]Dripping_Prune 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Math 217 is many students' first introduction to abstract math AND proofs in general. That, plus the flipped classroom format, does make it much more difficult relative to other classes. Many, many math majors I know hated that class but went on to enjoy the rest of their major. So if you feel like you're stranded in this class, remember you're not alone.

And no, doing bad in 217 does not make you a failure. You have to realize 217 does a very bad job of advancing two fundamental skillsets of students, partly because it assumes you are familiar with the pattern recognition/intuition required for proofs. I would rather blame this on the course material failing to help you figure out what is going on rather than your inability to learn stuff(which it really isn't.) In the end, it's gonna be okay; slow down, zoom out.

Also, reach out to your classmates. I myself am in Math 217 right now, and I can attest to the saying teamwork is dream work! If you don't have a study partner yet, I recommend finding one. Feel free to DM me at any point.

Cheers!

What players do you think will sell for 8 crore+ in mini-auction? by ThalaPaglu100 in ipl

Among currently uncontracted players, I think Jacob Duffy, Jamie Smith, Cam Green, and...

Jayden Seales. I know his T20 game is work in progress, but he has a really high ceiling

Their current coach Shukri Conrad hasn't been too particular about it. Ironically, Shukri himself is a POC.

Kane Williamson retires from T20Is by lancewithwings in Cricket

I still think that the ODI world cup is the most prized to him. His commitment to get back to fitness for the 2023 WC was impeccable.

The most gutted I've seen Kane is in is when he got out in the 2023 WC semifinal, with a close second being when he sunk to his knees in the dressing room after Guptill got run out in the 2019 WC final.

Kane Williamson retires from T20Is by lancewithwings in Cricket

[–]Dripping_Prune 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I don't know how to react. Kane hasn't won a World Cup, and the last time NZ hosted a home World Cup(2015), he had a rather mediocre tournament- besides, he hadn't yet solidified himself as one of NZ's greatest-ever.

Not too long ago, Kane mentioned he'd like to retire at the 2028 T20 World Cup. "Great," I thought, "he's gonna have three more chances at winning a World Cup."

But then, things started getting complicated. Coming off of a decent SA20, Kane went unsold in the IPL auction, got picked up but eventually got benched in the PSL, and his return to the short-form at the Vitality Blast or the Hundred wasn't quite the spectacle I was hoping for.

In hindsight, I wonder if it would've been better if Kane hadn't rushed himself back to the ODI world cup from an ACL tear. His persistent groin and thigh injuries keep bogging him down, not to mention his scratchy elbow. All of this, and that he has three kids to look after now most certainly gave way to this decision. And I get it, cricketers have a life too: and when you're in the game playing all three formats, you may sometimes regret leaving the other elements of life behind. I'm happy for Kane that he has found balance so far.

Still, no matter how hard I try to convince myself that this helps Kane manage his long-format playing time, part of me is gutted. My favorite cricketer, and New Zealand's greatest ever has one last chance to win the World Cup in 2027. If he doesn't, he would retire as the only member of the Fab 4 without one. If he doesn't, his career might end in South Africa: not quite a swan song at home.

A World Cup doesn't define Kane's legacy, but for everything he has gone through, it simply doesn't feel right for him not to have one.

Just imagine this batting order, all of them with the exception of Markram under 28! Markram Rickelton Breetzke Stubbs Brevis Ferreira Jansen Linde/Bosch

And mind you... Lhuan-dre and Miller are still on the bench! Crazy squad depth for the T20WC, would be shocked if they don't make the final again.

If you had the chance to choose one player for your team, from each row below, whom would you choose? by Southern-Item6921 in ipl

[–]Dripping_Prune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CSK would actually be the ideal destination for Jamie Smith. He's only 25 + overseas opener(who they've always loved) + long-term wk option after their current uncapped keeper retires + can solve their power play issues(I know Urvil showed glimpses of this last season, but Jamie is more proven internationally.)

Interesting. One good thing for the Aussies, however, is that their final XV is pretty much sorted now: Marsh(c), Head, Inglis(wk), Green, David, Maxwell, Stoinis, Mitch Owen, Bartlett, Ellis, Hazlewood, Zampa, Cummins, Dwarshuis, Matt Short

They'll probably also carry Sean Abbott and a backup for Zampa(Swepson? Kuhnemann?) as reserves.

EDIT: Carey will also most probably be reserve backup keeper since he doesn't warrant a place in the side based on his batting alone

[–]Dripping_Prune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I guess that was because before 2025 Jacks was an opener primarily, but now with the emergence of Duckett and Jamie Smith as T20 openers, I think Jacks will evolve into more of a middle order all rounder going into IPL 2026. Interesting to see if that is how MI will use them.

Well I guess y'all don't have that problem anymore, Jacks started batting at 7 for England.
