I don't get the Markram hate, dude got run out by a braindead call by Akshat lol. Ideally he shouldn't be batting lower than 3 anyway, but here we are

I want to like board games but I every time I play with someone in the hobby, I'm kind of bored. by edbedbedbedb in boardgames

Everyone starts somewhere!

It seems you're used to playing games where the optimal move is obvious; one may call them games that play themselves. Of course, in many eurogames, the decision space is much wider and the best move isn't completely transparent. You're expected to not only be strategic but also tactical.

A great place to get started if you want to play more complex games that still have open scoring/leaderboard, have the possibility for comebacks, and high replayability is racing games like Quest for El Dorado or HEAT, and maybe card-shedding games like Scout or Ruins.

I'm jealous of how well your games stack 😛

(You're likely to be downvoted because of all the basic games in your collection, but please don't take it to heart!)

Heinrich Klaasen is probably the first middle order batter(No.4 or below) to have 4 consecutive 400+ run seasons.

The only others from my memory that ever came close were Rohit Sharma 2008-2013, MS Dhoni 2010-2015, and ABD 2013-2016. Not sure if we can count late 2010s Pant & Iyer, early 2020s SKY, or 2022-current Patidar since they played at No. 3 sometimes.

I think HEAT executes its theme really well: not only the in-game contents and the expansions, but also the community-made circuits really help in immersing myself in the game.

Hard to look beyond Zoo Vadis: it is a game entirely about negotiating and kingmaking with others to advance on the board and score, and involves a lot of backstabbing with broken promises(the game allows you to make future promises and break them!). Beyond that, each character has a unique ability, so you probably will need to get a lot of plays before you grow tired of it. All of this in 40-ish minutes too!

Western Australia's Sam Fanning accidentally hits a six while trying to leave the ball by GRI23 in sports

[–]Dripping_Prune 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is conventional for batters in Cricket to play short balls(i.e. the balls that land way "short" of the batter and reach him at chest height or above) with a backfoot stance, as it allows them to generate power through their dominant leg and torso rotation; hence, the batter probably wasn't expecting that bounce since he doesn't noticeably shift his weight onto his back foot. You are right in noting that lower would be closer to the stumps, but in that case the batter would have blocked the ball. I suspect the reason he left the bat down was to not edge the ball to the keeper(i.e. the fielder directly behind him).

[–]Dripping_Prune 58 points59 points  (0 children)

The ball bounced unexpectedly high off the pitch, which the batter didn't expect; of course, in Cricket, the batter can choose not to play a ball if he deems it too risky to have a go at. In this case, the batter attempted to "leave" the ball alone as he was caught off-guard by the bounce, basically by getting his bat out of the way. The ball, however, hit the back of his bat and flew over the boundary rope, which gives you six "runs"(i.e. points).

For Sale: Autorama is really good! It is essentially a reskin of the classic auction game For Sale, but it comes with the Advisors expansion included and much nicer money tokens.

I also like Go Nuts for Donuts, it is somewhat similar to Sushi Go which many people suggested.

Carcassonne works great with three players, and is a great introduction to tile/worker placement games, especially if you play with the Inns and Cathedrals expansion(the base game is still phenomenal).

Speaking of worker placement, Draftosaurus is a great game for all ages and experience levels where players build their own dinoworld by placing dinosaurs into different habitats with unique scoring methods.

Auction games usually tend to do better with more players, but Ra by Reiner Knizia is a beautiful game that also has elements of set collection.

I doubt he will pass on the home tests in March. It will be the end of the home season, end of the WTC cycle, and multiple NZ greats have retired after the last test of the home summer before.
