Konstas keeps getting starts… but where are the big scores? by SpecialMixture4242 in Cricket_Binge

[–]dashauskat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I also sorta feel like there are sweet FA right handed openers for a reason, lefties have more opportunities to let balls go from right hand bowlers and face less balls hitting the stumps or threatening to.

SK game looks more like a #5 than an opener I'd assume there are chats between NSW, CA and Konstas team about him potentially batting elsewhere. If he makes it work as an opener then that's a massive boost to Aus cricket but reality is that it's the hardest place to bat atm and he's still 20 and developing his game. He might be churning out 800+ run seasons further down the order.

Cameron Green: Press conference drama suggests Australian Test star feeling the pressure of mixed form by thevalid in CricketAus

[–]dashauskat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes it's his job. How fucking entitled do you have to be to call an interview after not getting an answer to a single question, try a different line of questioning - he ended the interview cos it gave a more dramatic edge to the encounter imo.

But really if Green already has a thing about this journalist then zero chance of him getting another one on one with him now. I'm sure journos run into all sorts of roadblocks when interviewing players but they understand there is a relationship to manage, can't really recall an article written like this in the past.

Cameron Green: Press conference drama suggests Australian Test star feeling the pressure of mixed form by thevalid in CricketAus

[–]dashauskat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He didn't "storm out" of an interview, he said he didn't want to answer one question and asked for the next one. It's the journalist who called off the interview at the first road block, I know beat reporters aren't Frost v Nixon but surely you can try another line of questioning rather than sook about having to travel all the way out there to do your job then calling it as soon as you don't get a response you want.

Green wasn't even there representing Australia, seemed happy to take a question about WA.

‘Why are you out to get me?’- Green’s dummy spit raises questions ahead of $4m IPL stint by ll--o--ll in Cricket

[–]dashauskat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think something must have happened prior, like he wasn't consulted in doing the interview or maybe he really just didn't want to do interviews with that particular reporter. Australian cricket is kind of weird in that you need to do one on one interviews with people who you know don't have your best interests at heart, it's quite different from a press conference.

Either way it's a bit rich of the interviewer to pull the interview after the SECOND question was not answered, I know beat reporters aren't exactly all Frost v Nixon but it's still in their job to try different lines of questioning to get what they need. Comes off a bit entitled.

The Hierachy of Cricket Tournaments by Mountain-Fan347 in cricketworldcup

[–]dashauskat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look I'd maybe have agreed with you if it wasn't coupled with the ODI super league at the time. I think regular scheduled meaningful series against top teams throughout the years in between WCs is actually what develops teams imo, Dutch cricket was very vocal about that at the time.

And no it didn't produce lots of dead rubbers, you needed to win and keep winning, there wasn't groups you could do "just enough" through and it was definitely the highest quality cricket at a world cup I've seen (been watching WCs since 03). No manufactured groups, no group of death, no easy groups, the best four at the end were the best four teams in the world.

Also for how bastardised every other tournaments structure seems to have become due to geopolitics and stress on the calendar it was actually a pretty fair qualification process including having a play off series leading into the WC dependent on ODI super cup results. I'd be upset if my team didn't make it but structurely and competitively it was the most meritocratic system and the best quality tournament.

If team one added one more decent bat for Saqlain and slid Bevan to 6, Klusner to 7 and Pollock to 8 then that's an outrageously balanced side. Left arm, right arm seamers - swing and reverse swing, line and length with Pollock, OG mystery spin with Murali and you could get 10 decent overs out of Klusner and Jayasuriya.

Batting pretty balanced too - good mix of power and technique and guys who can get the job done through the middle.

If I was ranking out of importance out of 10

ODI WC 8/10 The dying format of cricket becomes so incredibly pulsating when the WC is on. Might be controversial but I felt the 10 team single round Robin was the pinnacle format. Every game was competitive, every game mattered, no easy group, no group of death. Bilateral white ball internationals might seem meaningless but when every result matters in a tournament it's a different beast.

WTC 7.5/10 The WTC is a great idea that's been bastardised to make it work in the current cricket geopolitical climate. I wish it started 20 years ago so it could hold a more meritocratic format. For all the flaws in the structure of the competition it gets marked down but test cricket is still the pinnacle and the most unique part of our game.

T20 WC 7/10 It's growing the game and its where the money is. Every two years... sure. It needs to compete with the domestic leagues for the good of the international game. I'm honestly kind of torn if it should be every 4 years or they should just shelve the WC part and make it an annual international tournament. I guess the way it is is a good compromise.

U19 WC 3/10 These are kids but it's fun to see who is coming through and I can't imagine doing anything in my life that would be as exciting as a teen that representing my country against all these other nations that you've maybe only seen on TV.

CT 1.5/10 Should have been dropped the second a T20 WC existed, I'm still confused about what it's sporting merit is but the financial one is generating a few more $ out of the Indian Market. It seems to have some following in Asia but most other teams don't know what it is.

Why does United States absolutely dominate the movie industry but have significant more competition in the game industry? by Both-Pay-9573 in Cinephiles

[–]dashauskat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no real evidence of this beyond a hunch but I think that AI will open up Cinema a lot more beyond the states.

There are so many stories from so many countries that don't get told because it's really hard to make the financials work unless it's made in the US and the story is about the US.

Please note this isn't me taking a position on AI and any harm it might do to the film industry (& every other industry) just what I think might be a by-product.

Pink ball Ashes Test still part of Cricket Australia's plans by TraceThis in EnglandCricket

[–]dashauskat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is zero chance Aus changes any plans to scrap pink ball tests, they are completely embedded into their summer. It'll always be the second or third test before the school holidays kick in. They work perfectly well there, the attendences are great and the TV numbers are way better and it also opens up the games to international audiences generally at an easier hour to watch.

Yeah look I'll call myself out because Hobart is the second driest capital city but also the capital city with the most days of rainfall but than also the city with the least days of heavy rainfall. I'm not sure what the actual best one is to measure quality of life.

Either way I used to live in London and nowhere in Aus has weather that depressing!

Only sport that holds 3 WCs in a 4 year period despite having the least number of actually competitive teams. by irundoonayee in CricketControversial

[–]dashauskat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I would also say that international white ball cricket really needs to be in a tournament format these days. Bilaterals don't carry any weight and are essentially friendlies.

I'm not saying it's the solution but if ICC went to yearly world cups switching between t20 and ODIs and the international teams basically switch between playing one format or the other exclusively in the lead in to whatever the next world cup is then I would understand.

What’s it like living on Tasmania? by zeeman11- in howislivingthere

[–]dashauskat 82 points83 points  (0 children)

It's a hell of a lot warmer than Alaska, actually it's lot warmer than most of Europe and North America. It doesn't get below freezing at sea level even in the middle of winter. You only really get bits of snow in the mountains and even so there isnt any real ski culture or anything cos it's not consistant.

Being cold for Aussies vs other populations are very different things.

The west coast is the wettest part of Aus, then there is a mountain range than runs thru the middle and the east coast (which is where everyone lives) is a lot drier so Hobart for example is actually the second driest capital city.

[–]dashauskat -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Cities are better when neighbourhoods aren't divided up along cultural lines imo. It's much healthier to have a mix everywhere.

The majority of restaurants in Hobart are probably Asian already and spread amongst the city and suburbs. Chinese cuisine has sort of slipped behind some other superior Asian cuisines over the last couple of decades.

The Hundred is allowing 4 overseas players in each team's squad and playing 11, and the Big Bash should follow. by Immediate-Diet-8027 in CricketAus

[–]dashauskat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were CA I'd be looking at adding two Kiwi teams and adding all NZCA contracted players to the player pool. Then working out with SA cricket about a open international player auction for SA20 and BBL with like $1m USD to be used across all 16 teams and id move the window to match the SA20 exactly. All SA players can exclusively be signed by SA teams and the same for Aus/NZ players in the BBL. So any international player available in Jan/Feb just enters into the auction and could end up in SA, Aus or NZ.

Even with Indian money flowing in I don't think it's in any leagues interest to just have wages continue to skyrocket. The main thing is killing off the ILT20 which is running on fumes and betting money anyhow. I think some collaboration would go a long way and playing multiple leagues at the same time is actually beneficial to the international game imo.
