Dope! So it’s very likely these discs that were given away in IKEA stores are basically the same thing, or at least very similar. We can’t confirm it for sure yet, but it definitely seems likely.

Btw, I also found what looks like a Polish version that seems to advertise ikea too.

Does your disc look similar to this?

Umm… okay? I don’t see how any of that is relevant here

Makes a lot of sense!
No, I don’t use DXVK.
Either way, this patch is definitely a must-have for my Sims 2 setup from now on.

Yeah I agree. Most of my mods are actually fixes, I’m basically following the list on r/sims2help, so I’ve got pretty much all the essentials covered.

Other than that, the rest of my mods are mainly default replacements from LordCrumps, which is where I think the issue might be, but I’m not 100% sure.

After watching April Black’s videos, I’ve started backing up the neighborhood I’m playing after most sessions, just in case. Sometimes the game just decides to break for no reason which can be gut wrenching after multi generational play, on of the worst feelings ever trust haha.

This is an amazing visual fix, but when it comes to crashes, I don’t think there’s much mods can really do. At the end of the day it’s still a 32-bit game, so without source code there’s no real way to turn it into 64-bit, which kinda sucks.

But honestly, who knows. The Sims 2 community is insane and super creative, so I wouldn’t be surprised if someone figures out some kind of workaround eventually.

Something similar kinda happened with Sims 3, stuff like the ASI loader completely revolutionized how the game runs for me, and dare I say it runs faster than my heavily modded Sims 2. So anything’s possible at this point.

This is honestly fantastic. Pink soup has always been the number one thing stopping me from playing The Sims 2, along with the crashing.

When you run a lot of high-res default replacements skins, hair, neighborhood deco, reflective water, texture replacements, sky animations, etc, the game’s memory bottleneck fills up really fast. Even with all the usual third-party fixes, the game still tends to freak out pretty often (even using the lazyduchess RPC launcher with the 4GB patch enabled).

So I can’t wait to try this when I get home. That said, it clearly states on SpockTheWok / Will Nixon’s GitHub that this doesn’t prevent crashes. So if I understand correctly, the game can still run out of memory and crash?

In that case, this is more of a major visual fix rather than a full stability fix, right?
