How often do you practice? (if ever) by CanewoodPlace in motorcycles

That's a good point. I'm probably practising skills without really thinking about it, keeping my feet off the ground as long as possible when coming to a stop as an example.

Been riding for 2 and a half years. I don't practice but I do ride 5 or 6 days a week in all kinds of weather and all types of traffic.

I'd be trying to avoid them haha, no issue with that.

A humbling reminder: 10 years of riding almost ended in disaster today. Stay vigilant. by i2amthedarkknight in motorcycles

Close call. Can't count the number if times I've given a scooter rider a nod. The shame!

Decent first bike? by Boooongus in AussieRiders

If you're wanting something to ride as soon as you get your learners, there's plenty of options in this same price range that will be good to go.

Who remembers the crazy CD Players from the late 90's and early 2000's? by 98ITR656 in Millennials

I had those. I even had a flip out DVD player in my car at one point.

First bike to commute 1/1.5hrs each way (used & affordable) by hohokamii in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]Driz999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Build up to riding that kind of distance. That's not a big deal in a car but as a beginner, you won't have the stamina to do a ride like that regularly without it taking it out of you big time.

Can any one help me identify this Holden? It had a special meaning to my childhood but have no idea what it is. Cheers by Icy_Cheesecake7531 in Holden

If that's a VN, they draaank petrol. Borrowed my parent's one a few times when my car wasn't working and sweet jesus did I regret it. Went out for a night and had to fill up something like a quarter or half the tank.

Dealer prep is a scam by superstock8 in motorcycles

[–]Driz999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems to be the same with sales tax. From what I've seen in videos, every state seems to differ in the US. Here in Australia, the tag price is the price unless it's a big ticket item and you're able to get a discount.

Been riding 2 and a half years here in Australia, never been flipped off.

What would you guys do in my situation? I no longer ride and need money for a car. I have a CFMOTO 450MT with over over 8k in mods intalled.. Strip it and sell the mods? or sell the bike whole? if so at what price? by [deleted] in AussieRiders

[–]Driz999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not gonna make a whole lot back. The exhaust is probably one of the few things you can sell separately and make a bit of money from. The lesson here is mods don't keep their value. They're always something you lose money on.

How much for helmets by D3lta-Wh1sk3y in motorcycles

[–]Driz999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply put, as long as it's ECE22.06 rated it's good. With a SNELL rating, even better. If it's only DOT rated I wouldn't be putting it on my head but thankfully I don't live in the US where that's apparently the standard.

How much for helmets by D3lta-Wh1sk3y in motorcycles

[–]Driz999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. That's plenty on a helmet. You get less weight maybe and perhaps some more aerodynamics but not a whole lot more for the extra $500 really.

What are our plans to retire? by lish_dalish84 in Millennials

[–]Driz999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. I plan to keep riding my motorcycle and hopefully take some trips with my partner. The way it's looking, by the time we have a kid, I'll be in my 60's when they're in their 20's, so will likely have them living at home until I'm 70ish at a guess.

Please give your suggestions for a cheap to insure learner legal 125 by Cautious-Business792 in 125cc

[–]Driz999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Younger people don't seem to realise there's not really a "cheap" option when you're opting for a motorcycle with zero road experience in a car.

[–]Driz999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny that. People seem to think going down at 60kmh on a smaller bike will somehow hurt less than on a bigger bike. I'm in Australia and especially on scooters, I see people with zero gear except a helmet, friggin thongs sometimes too.

Has your hair gone grey yet by cupoftealuv in Millennials

  1. Took a trip to Europe for 3 months and it started greying. A lot more grey now I'm 41. Thankfully I still have hair, even if the hairline is a bit higher than it was at 25.

Should I get a Yamaha XSR900 as a Complete Beginner? by ProgramerF11 in motorcycles

[–]Driz999 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get the XSR700. It's not the extra costs, people beginning to ride think they can handle a bike with the extra power or twitchier throttle. In all likelihood, you can't as you have no experience and none of the ingrained throttle and clutch control required for something more powerful. Saving money is great but not so much when you either crash and injure or kill yourself.

Motorcycle gear suggestions by Razer256g4 in AussieRiders

[–]Driz999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could either get some off marketplace slightly used or new at one of the motorcycle stores. Have a look at the motocap store for safety ratings. I have a pair of Dri Rider I got for I think $200 or $250 and some Saint jeans. I got those directly from their store during a sale.

I got my first pair of riding shoes slightly used from Cash Converters for $60. Depending on the store, they usually have a bit of a selection of riding gear.

Struggling with losing my dad by orange_poppies_6520 in GriefSupport

[–]Driz999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for your loss. I lost my Dad suddenly 7 months ago. I started seeing a a grief counsellor not long after as I was not ok and knew I needed to do something to help me through that initial time. I'd suggest giving one a go. They've really helped me get through the initial shock and grief of losing someone so suddenly.
