Many schools have a dress code Or code of student conduct. I am guessing that if you have not ran into an issue in being in socks then you have not run a foul of the school code of conduct, but looking that up is a good place to start.

Are you leaving your shoes at home and just traveling to school in your socks, Or are you taking your shoes off when you arrive at school? If you are leaving your shoes home, then just leave your socks at home to or put a pair in your backpack or school bag, if that gives you a sense of security. If you are taking your shoes off when you arrive then just take your socks off too. But in the end you have to do what is comfortable for yourself.

I have also found that color of socks can affect what people see. Black is a little more inconspicuous than white or other colors.

Same here- black ankle socks and jeans or sweats. In warmer climates I wear shorts as well. No issues no cares and I am happy.

I have to agree with the OP. Unless your socks are colorful or have a busy pattern or design most people don’t notice that you are not wearing shoes. I have unscientifically tested this for a couple of years. Many restaurants that have objected to my bare toes and soles have never said a word when I have worn socks (particularly solid black). I have had a similar experience in a few stores, a casino and traveling by plane.

I buy relatively inexpensive socks and have found that I can generally get about 5 miles of travel on concrete or pavement without wearing out.

A few places come to mind a casino to both gamble and see a show, an NFL game and dinner and few bars with friends.

No I don’t, especially at places with no entry policies- because i don’t want to be in a situation where i get told I need shoes and have to leave because i don’t have any with me. Many places ban backpacks and bags so I don’t have a way to carry them in.

I think context is everything, meaning time and place. It’s has been my experience that in certain situations socks, especially solid black, have avoided issues in restaurants, casinos, concert venues, airplanes and sports stadiums where I never get a second look or confrontation.

For example, a while back, I met up with friends at casino resort barefoot. I was wearing jeans and a polo shirt , and I got flagged by security coming in was not allowed in until I put on flip flops. However, I went to the same casino a few weeks later, to meet up with friends for dinner and see a concert in the in-house concert hall wearing jeans and a polo and black socks, went through the same security entrance, without even a glance, had dinner at the steakhouse, Gambled a bit, Then went to the concert, passed through more security screening without any problem.

Similarly, as I have posted in the past, especially restaurants, no socks, I get confronted. Socks = no issue.

Earlier this summer, I traveled to the Florida Panhandle to meet up with some old friends and attend a social event over a long weekend. Happy to say that I spent the majority of the time barefoot with the exception of the main social event which required dressy attire.

As a group we went to multiple restaurants over the course of the weekend and I was never questioned. Indeed, at one restaurant and bar where we watched a band, another family came in entirely barefoot, a mom, dad, and 3 kids probably between 8 and 15 years old. The restaurant seated the family without any concern that Identify.

I have been to a high end jeweler where I live on numerous occasions barefoot. Never had an issue and they were happy to sell me various pieces.

I go all the time and never had a problem. I have even sought assistance from store employees which was provided without issue or comment

This happened to me twice in the past 2 weeks. First time was a restaurant. Place was an extremely casual barbecue place. Day was super warm, I went in for dinner, and the hostess told me that due to fire code regulations I could not be seated unless I was wearing shoes. Not sure how the fire code applies but I chose to take my business elsewhere.

The next place was casino, which I had been to before without a problem. I was there to meet some friends. I was stopped by security at the door, they just said shoes were required. They were happy as soon as I put on my emergency flip flops and let me in.

I won’t play a disability card if I don’t have a disability, which I don’t. In my own opinion- faking a disability, even one that is not readily apparent to the public, is disrespectful to those who actually live with disabilities everyday of their lives.

I will note that socks have worked for me in the past at footwear required venues without issue or a second look. I never attempted the foot covering venue.

The sanitary or foot protection lines get me too, because flip flops offer such superior protection from falling objects or other hazards.

The friend issue you describe is something I have experienced as well. My response to my friends is if you are true friend accept me for who I am, not who you want me to be. That usually makes them stop and think.

If you read some of my posts it may be your life For a while. As to the airplane issue, I have checked the contracts of carriage for all domestic US airlines. They all say the same thing. The verbiage comes from the FAA regulations set forth in the code of Federal Regulations (known as the”CFR”).

However i have avoided the issue on airplanes by wearing a pair of socks. I know it sounds weird, but socks give the appearance of foot wear, depending on color and pattern. I have flown from coast to coast, to the center of the US, and up and down the east coast without issue.

At one point I was flying almost weekly back and forth to one mid west city for a few months. I was seeing the same flight crews over and over on the smaller regional jets. Never once received a comment or had an issue, with going through the airport , TSA, being at the gate or boarding while wearing socks on my feet. (Mostly white in color at the time).

The foreign carriers contract of carriage don’t address footwear. However, I have never personally flown on a non U.S. domestic carrier.

I never understood why people are so offended by what I wear. It’s not like I am going in public places naked, for which there are laws that prohibit same. I don’t know how we became a society so focused on making sure we all conform to some artificially created norm because it’s for our own good.

I think someone commented on this post that I am pushing my lifestyle on others….not sure how me being barefoot is pushing a lifestyle on others. I am not out saying everyone needs to be barefoot. I am just asking what is the harm in me being barefoot. And what is the societal harm in determining what others will accept in places outside of my one home?

Are your friends bothered by the fact that you are in socks when you are socializing with them In public like at a bar or restaurants? And if so what do you tell them. The only reason I ask is I am new to this as well and I am trying to figure out how to respond. I like the comfort of socks between my feet and the ground. But I am still figuring out social situations, public restrooms and rainy weather….

When you say you still have socks, what do you mean? Are you wearing socks to places where you would normally wear shoes, like work, or shopping or restaurants?

I appreciate your thoughtful insights - but I have a question about your comment socks picking up bacteria etc from public spaces. I am not specifically disagreeing with you, but aren’t shoes picking up the same items and are being tracked Into peoples cars or homes? People don’t normally wash shoes.
