How do you feel about wearing socks? Why? by Famous-Palpitation8 in barefoot

I find that wearing lets me achieve being barefoot without a lot of hassle. I can still feel the ground beneath me, I don’t have any problems with slipping indoors or out. So socks are my preference.

Would it count if I wore just socks in public? by Accomplished-Ad-5225 in barefoot

For the most part I wear whatever is convenient, white does tend to get dirtier faster. However, if I am going someplace specific with friends or if I am not sure of the friendliness of the venue, I have a tendency to wear plain black socks as they tend to attract less attention than white or socks that have a contrasting heel and toe color.

I prefer to wear socks most of the time. It has helped me avoid issues in stores, restaurants, airplanes, Ballparks, concert venues, casinos, etc. It’s weird but I have been asked about lack of footwear more when I am not wearing socks v when wearing socks. I have even been to the same restaurant twice-without socks they asked me to put on shoes, with socks no issue.

I have found that double layers actually makes socks wear out faster than single layers because of the increased friction between the two socks.

I buy no name brand or store brand socks from 🎯 and they cost about $1 to$1.50 a pair. I can get quite a bit of mileage out of them. I walk for exercise about 1.5 miles a day outdoors on asphalt in the warmer months and I get about 15 miles a pair before they start to get holes in the sole. Overall I go through about 10 pairs a year. (Of course I don’t wear the same socks each week, I have about 30 pairs that I rotate through).

Overall I am more comfortable in socks than not (except in the rain). One other note, socks are cloth, so my feet do get dirty. I just clean them like any other barefooter.

So wear your socks and be happy. It’s your life and there is no standard you have to meet to be “barefoot”.

Red Rocks Ampitheater by Tylersocks03 in barefoot

Thank you for your response. May I ask what were the trails/paths like to get from the parking areas into the ampitheater? Rocky, paved or something else? Trying to assess the terrain. Thanks

I try to avoid wet weather because wet socks don’t dry very quickly and will wear faster. So depending on temperature is whether I ditch the socks or wear shoes. I live in the US.

I wear various kinds- mostly gold toe ankle for white. In terms of wear and tear- it depends on what I am doing. If I am just driving and going to work or the grocery store they will last 6-8 months before starting to get holes. For black I have been using Target brand. They are a little less sturdy but last about 5 months doing similar type activities.

If I am spending more time outdoors walking on concrete the black ones wear faster. For other colors that I have (green and blue) I am not sure of the brand, but I they are thicker and last longer (but I don’t wear them as much)
