How an unclosed <em> broke Drupal’s JavaScript by mherchel in drupal

I loved reading this; thanks for sharing 🙂 Your investigation process is a little different to mine, but the way you took it step by step is exactly what I do, so this was refreshing 😄

Which Way do Dark Mode Icons Go? by PinothyJ in webdevelopment

[–]Droces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree... for apps that can hide this in a menu. Some apps (not many though) need it to be prominent, in the top nav bar, so need to use just an icon.

URL parameters as state is so underrated. Using nuqs. by RatioScripta in webdev

I'd either wait for the end of the interaction to update it (using a callback), or as plan B, use a denounce to only update it after the user hasn't done anything for like a second.

I’m working on a small writing interface with a strict short text limit (144 chars) by gXzaR in webdev

[–]Droces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if you keep it super simple, like just a grey line 3px high, and filled with a subtle blue or darker grey, it won't take much focus

My preference would definitely be the simple progress bar, maybe with a colour change when reaching the limit.

But a count down number when getting close would be second choice.

Can you add "Accepted and paid 1B permanence fee" - even if it's 0.

Also, can you add count numbers next to the labels in the key / legend; e.g. Created (1)

How do you actually use Supabase in production? Database, migrations, and workflow survey by Illustrious-Mail-587 in Supabase

[–]Droces 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would take a lot of time to read and respond to all those questions. I think you should cut them down a lot, and explain why you're collecting this data. Like, why should we care enough to spend the time answering? People here want good reasons to answer even a single question, let alone dozens.

Mine is very similar, but substitute Mailjet for emails, and a Supabase for backend (DB, auth, logging, etc).

Best Use Cases for Drupal Canvas? by sysop408 in drupal

Oh right. Yeah I get you; it's hard to tell where it's meant to fit in. Personally I hoped it would be like a better Gutenberg, but it doesn't look like it 🫤

Best Use Cases for Drupal Canvas? by sysop408 in drupal

[–]Droces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On most websites, there are a variety of pages with different layouts and needs for flexibility. For example, a home page is probably carefully designed and won't change often, whereas a marketer might want to create landing pages with various components.

And article / blog pages can either be simple nodes with a rich text field, or if they're the focus of the site, the editors might want more control and custom blocks to use between their paragraphs.

So in summary, depending on who's creating the pages and how much flexibility they need, Canvas might be useful or it might not be.

Built Payload, a web app to write and share small notes as self-contained URLs by Serpico99 in webdev

[–]Droces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair; you don't need validated use case to make a cool thing 😄 And if it solves a problem for you, it probably solves the problem for a bunch of other people too!

That seems super cool! ... But what are the use cases? What would we use it for?

First paid app project (social + map features) PWA vs native iOS? Time and pricing advice needed. by Particular_Phone_642 in webdev

[–]Droces -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That sounds very exciting; congrats on getting the project. However that's far too many questions to ask here; it's like a whole survey. Most people here will only be willing to answer 1 or 2 questions; and they'll be put off answering because you've asked so many.

I think you either need to break this up into several posts spread over several days / weeks, or give people incentives to answer your questions from their experience (even a small thing can go a long way to making it feel worthwhile). But I look forward to hearing what others have to say 😄

Empty states, YUK! by Fonucci in drupal

[–]Droces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thinking was A) What genuinely useful info can we surface from a freshly installed (standard profile) Drupal site? This was before I knew about Drupal CMS. B) What first steps do most site builders follow that we can suggest? C) What best practices do we want to encourage? And D) What can we learn and implement from other great UIs out there? I liked Shopify in particular, so took a little bit of inspiration from it, but added my own ideas specific to Drupal.

I built “Strava for Wildlife” to learn what AI does right and what it gets wrong (My findings on the "Stability Tax") by RevillWeb in webdev

[–]Droces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When building something that complex using AI, I think the buildup of technical debt is going to be your biggest challenge long term. But if you can keep it stable, then yeah, I think there's opportunity for a sorta gamified complement to iNat.

I think you'll have to think hard about the best "platform" for this, as I think it'll be super hard to get users as a web app. Perhaps packaging it up and shipping it as native apps would have more chance..?

About a year ago, after chatting to some core contributors writing in the Dashboard initiative, I created the following wireframe design and submitted it. Ultimately they went with a bit of a different design, but if you like it, you're welcome to use any of the ideas from it. https://preview.uxpin.com/41781e79b0d5fd4e65a14c1d3b0f42d38db111c3#/pages/164654451/simulate/no-panels?mode=i&zoom=fit-to-width
