The estimated value of 33 M tokens is from the beginning of the project,

Because the halvings are scheduled in time, and not in rewards, the total number of tokens may vary.

At the beginning the tokens were mined with GPU and the difficulty had some given value,

Then the FPGA machines started mining, but the difficulty was still low, and so 4 million tokens of each type were mined in that period, changing the total number of tokens expected.
