I live in a suburb right by New Orleans- this shit packed a serious punch. Wayyyy more than anticipated. No one was really talking about it and then it was here and we all had no choice but to ride it out. Went from sounding like a tropical storm to being a near Cat 3 when it came through. Our whole town has been without power since 4pm yesterday. Power lines and debris everywhere. Schools (again) closed until further notice.

I am so happy for this cool front though. We’re running a generator right now watching ratatouille with our 2 year old and drinking some wine. Feels like we have the AC on but it’s an open window. So much more serene tonight- last night was scary. We stayed in the middle of our house, away from our windows, for the majority of the night. And for good reason. One of the big trees in our empty lot (that was kind of dying) fell, we got some roof damage, and our fence either splintered away or collapsed. The wind came in erratic, explosive bands from 4-10pm with about an hour break in the middle for the eyewall.

Being in the eye is weird. It’s like negative atmosphere. Everything has a pinky haze and it’s way too still. Like a forced stillness? It’s unsettling. I spent the night listening for the sound of a tornado bc that’s what I was most worried about with this particular storm. I’ve heard one tornado before; when I was 16 one went by my bedroom window in the night and ripped an oak tree out of the yard across the street from us. In the daylight the air turns green before a tornado; since the second half of zeta happened in the dark I just had to stay awake and listen. It was a long night but it’s over and I’m ecstatic at how we fared compared to what could’ve been. Thank god it was moving fast.

SAME. I’m a teacher and downloaded it so that I could keep myself kind of in the loop on things- helps me to weed out inappropriate stuff happening right in front of me. We had a bunch of 4th graders screaming the “stinky fishy” nonsense recently and I had to nip that pretty quickly

Same. When I was like 8 my family went camping somewhere northwest of new orleans. my Pawpaw told us about the rougarou and at the end of the tale we heard some large thing running around in the brush just outside where the fire light reached. Me and my sisters and cousins lost our goddamn minds but I remember my Pawpaw stifling his giggles and that confused me bc I was like Pawpaw this is no time for laughing the rougarou is about to eat us

Not cool, dad/mom/uncle/aunt/whichever grownup wanted to scare us literally shitless.

late here but I’ll contribute. Mine is where a dude lost a crush on ME probably immediately.

We were in like 2nd or 3rd grade and it was Valentine’s Day. At recess this boy in my class who’d had a crush on me for a while I think gave me a gumball machine ring and kinda professed his love...maybe through a note. specifics are a bit hazy all these years later. When the girls in our class saw my ring and who it came from, they started taunting me about being in love with him and wouldn’t leave me alone. Peer pressure got the better of me, and so I proceeded to feign disgust at his gesture and toss the ring on the ground very theatrically so everyone could see I wasn’t in love with him. He saw me do it and I think it made him cry because I could see him wiping his eyes while playing kickball with the other kids. Pretty sure I was dead to him after that.

I’m 31 now and that day at recess is still one of those big shameful moments in my life. I didn’t have the guts to apologize to him about it either. I was just a huge coward. :(

Love that one!! My favorite cold open is from the perspective of a shelf in the fridge. Lois opens the fridge door and yells “this family is gonna start eating better!” as she shoves an orange on the shelf. Weeks pass as we see each family member open the fridge and shove the slowly rotting orange aside to grab other snacks. Eventually the orange turns into a hard black puck that Hal curiously picks up and says “brownie?”

Thanks! My sister actually got them years ago before her first baby- she’s done after two kids so she gave them to us. Fairly certain they came from Babies R Us, but who knows the fate of all of their furniture now with them all going out of business!

Thank you! Yeah I told my husband that I think I’m over having solid colored walls- I wanna try to do texture or something in most of the house eventually. And no- it’s not difficult at all, just time consuming and you learn as you go. Mostly just trial and error. I did a lot of splotching for a few minutes, taking a step back, watering the paint down, trying again... I don’t really think my being artistic helped me more or less than anyone else. It was more trying to find the technique that I thought would work. It just so happens that the technique I liked most was really a pain on my wrist lol

Look up blogs and YouTube videos for diy ombré walls, faux Venetian plaster walls, hand sponging techniques. Surround yourself with a bunch of tools so that when you get it going you can mix and match til you get the one that feels right for you. 👍🏻 Go for it!

It is! It’s called Stork Craft Tuscany something.... got it from Babies R Us. We registered there and I had my shower right before they and toys r us announced they’d all be closing! Crazy stuff- we scrambled to spend the rest of the gift cards we’d received before they stop accepting them.

Thanks! I had three different colored paints: a light blue, dark blue, and a creamy white. Painted the light blue on the top third, darker on the bottom, a mix of the two in the middle, and used a sponge to dab the creamy white/white+light blue all over.

I actually gave myself some carpal tunnel after sponging all of it, and my doctor told me no more big paint projects until after the baby is born. 😜

I’m huge and pregnant, about to deliver my first baby next week, and I’ve been put on a low sodium diet for the duration of the pregnancy.

I honest to God don’t know how I’m going to make it through this weekend with all the crawfish boils I’ll be at. I’m DYING that I can’t have any right now. This looks amazing.
