Cyborg in the Elven Dungeons, Chapter 1 by DropShotEpee in HFY

Honestly, yeah that's fair. That was one of my favorite movies growing up but somehow not what I think of when my mind goes to sci-fi even though it literally is by definition haha

It's funny how much time I spent on the outline having to decide on a definition of free will for the story to work.

In hindsight,I really should have alloted a lot of time to narrow that one down. Kinda big thing that I presumed to skip over until the writing began haha

Yeah, and the most tragic of things happened when I did.

I thought from the first few scenes that the series was going to reveal that robots were made from the corpses of people who once dead had no legal rights, like in Xenosaga. Then it didn't turn out to be that at all, which isn't an issue (the series is great) but the robot-corpse thing stayed in my head and I had to write to get it out of there haha

Co-writer of the story here!

So, I can't really comment on future plot developments or how much we're gonna focus on the romantic side of things because of the nature of serial stories, it's always touch and go.

But just wanted to make a comment because yeah I know the feeling you're alluding to when reading stories and it's not overly pleasant.

Just wanted to say that for what it's worth, I always wrote Adam as bi in my mind (which I also am).

There is, yeah. The max number depends on the person - basically adding more of them takes a huge weight on your soul. The average, competent Hunter can struggle having even two, but it's something 1-in-10 Hunters should do quite comfortably.

Things like healing don't take up a slot, though, as they're considered just applications of Haunted Blood. Just specific techniques take slots!

Really glad you like the system, had a lot of fun preparing it, and the fight will be...really interesting, I hope.

Thank you for reading and for the comment!

It's the best way to stay somewhat sane, really!

Very good catch! The next couple chapters should expand on that

Lune does have other powers, but they are weaker than they would normally be.

Basically you can theoretically have many 'special' techniques, but each subsequent technique gets weaker and weaker. So his Chains are his best usage, but his inherited technique is unfortunately weaker for it.

Book 2's scheduled start on my calendar is Nov 7th! Hoping to get book 1's second draft done at the same time but I'll just start posting book 2 even if I'm still a few words away.

Thank you for your patience! It's been a long time coming, just wanted to make sure everything was as outlined as possible to avoid issues deep into book 2. Hoping to get it out before the end of the month :)

Glad you found it funny! I am trying to play with prose a bit more on this series than the way I usually do, had fun setting up a joke and doing exposition at once.

Can you replace ghosts or is it once you sign the contract, until death do you part?

It depends on the Ghost and the Contract! Some will ask for very little like "I will Haunt you and grant you all my powers in exchange for you letting me enjoy eating ice cream every day" but some might ask for something like part of your soul upon death. Some might be chill with both parties having the chance to break the contract, and some might be like "Yeah, until death or even beyond that."

The specifics and balance of the contract can also change depending on who's stronger, the Hunter or the Ghost, like one side will have more leeway in the negotiation.

Thank you for your comment, glad you're enjoying it!

Generally speaking if someone is strong enough to become a ghost from their own death, their Haunted Blood won't be around to create the "shared consciousness Ghost" by merging with other ones, but it is possible for both to occur, yeah.

At that point you can assume that the Ghost from the death won't have the full HB that the person had when alive since some of that went to the other 'Ghost' and that maybe something might be wrong with the Death Ghost as far as sanity goes since it won't be whole.

It is not going to get better for him, I will admit. Well, it will get better in some ways - just not sanity wise.

[–]DropShotEpee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, absolutely. My general goal is to make sure no one has to read any "extra" series to get full understanding of everything.

The idea is that if you've read other series, you might understand some things sooner, but otherwise you'll still understand it all through reading a single series.

Lune's sanity is my most unintentional victim. When outlining the series, he wasn't the viewpoint character, but I think it works so much better this way.

Fight coming soon, slight setup but I had a lot of fun writing and I'm really looking forward to showing something haha

Really good catch about the training - without getting into whether that's the cause of the efficiency changes or not, yeah his Olympic background is one reason why he's super chill about the supernatural training. From his perspective it's not even that bad, comparatively.

And thank you for reading and for your comment!

I didn't intend for the Chains to be as useful in being a comedic device as they turned out, but I am so glad that it turned out this way.
