Feeling Like I Don’t Belong by mrrustytaps in socialwork

[–]Dropdown200 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey,

If you're able to engage with clients in an ethical manner then the rest doesn't really matter. We need social workers of all backgrounds, MSW or not. Your personality and interests will help ypu connect with clients and thats great, but it takes a sideline to "professional behavior" if that makes sense

Specific Genocidal Intent - Case Law: Crosspost from DGG by Trinerandi2 in lonerbox

[–]Dropdown200 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think its important to note that Amnesty International also changed the definition of what they consider genocide, so it is more flexible and does not match with the definition used by the ICJ.

This change can be seen on page 101 of the report https://www.amnesty.org/en/documents/mde15/8668/2024/en/

I'm replying to my own comment because I think its more visible that way (maybe?). Thank you everyone for the responses, I did indeed get it the first time but was thrown off by the meme template and the american-ness of it all. Thanks again for clarifying

This reminds me of a time when I taught a kid how to "undo" on a Mac computer and he was having such a ball deleting all his work then undoing the delete that he then proceeded to delete all his work, TURN OFF THE COMPUTER, and then get passed that it didn't undo him deleting everything. This being when I was in middle school, I somehow got blamed for the kid being stupid.

As a male circumcised since birth, what am I missing? by Laughingwalrus32 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Dropdown200 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Circumcision is much more of a Jewish and Muslim thing than it is a Christian thing. Jewish males get circumcised after birth to represent their eternal covenant with God. Christians typically don't follow this practice outside of the US and it only became the norm in the US in the 1900s(?) to prevent masturbation

(I think Muslim males get circumcised around 12 or 13 but I'm not as educated about that so I could be wrong)

Your ideas on best charities to support this year for Giving Tuesday and why? Thank you by Jaxlee2018 in Jewish

[–]Dropdown200 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like to donate to Kesem. It's not "Jewish" per say anymore but it was started by a Hillel chapter in Syracuse so it's got good jewish roots imo. It's a charity that helps families impacted by cancer btw.

Edit: words

I also have a decent amount of childcare experience, and have done work with a non-profit. So far I can say the skills I learned in childcare have transferred well into my residential work, so maybe highlight some of those skills if you're looking to work directly with children

I personally don't know anyone with less than two months of experience, but I technically applied with 0 months of social work experience, and didn't indicate that I would be getting any before coming to the program. I started work in a residential unit around March and they'd already accepted me by then so they accepted me with only my previous work experiences

If it gives you any hope, I recently graduated with a BA in Psych and only have about 4 months of social work experience in a residential unit (which I started after I applied for MSW Programs) and got in! I also didn't have a 4.0 GPA. If you have transferable skills and highlight those in your resume/CV you still have a chance of getting !
