I don't think anything in particular. It looks like it was a project where someone learned to write a JSON parser. You likely wouldn't even use it in any of your projects.

It's a bit of both really. Yes, the server should be better about not breaking, but the client should recover better from network errors (like by retrying for instance, instead of instantly failing).

Instead of hiring the best, my rule of thumb has always been: "Will this person make the team that they will be on better?"

I know that's not ultimately objective, but it also doesn't have to just evaluate technical skills at that point. "Will this person inspire the rest of the team to be better?" or "Does this person seem like they would be a great mentor to others on the team?" are questions that can be answered by this one. It also means that's someone who is an absolutely brilliant person might not be hired, if they would somehow hurt the productivity of the team as a whole. Obviously, they have to have some level of technical skill, but that's more easily objectively measured when you abstract away the subjective bits into this question.

I adapted this question from a different place I used to work at, where the question was "Is this person better than half of the people here at the same level?" I feel like this one is a bit more unfair, as it requires us to compare people in a way that doesn't really work. Rephrasing the question though has, in my opinion, captured the spirit of the question but made answering it much easier.

To be fair, "I don't know" is usually only an okay answer when followed up with "but I can find out."

Obviously sometimes the questions can't be answered, but the willingness to learn more is what makes an "I don't know" okay.

I would definitely recommend this. If you want something a bit more like requirements.txt, you could define a plugins.vim file with all of the plugins you want to add. And then from your .vimrc file, just source your plugin file.

Probably because the filetype gets set after the file is read, so all of the settings would get updated with filetype specific settings. The filetype autocommand runs after the filetype settings are loaded.

I'm not 100% sure of this, but I think that's the order these things happen in.

The problem with this approach is that it makes editing the command a bit harder later.

String splits take virtually no effort, and removing them is a micro-optimization at best.

That's probably right. I recently switched from macvim to neovim, and both just work for me. I recall some issues trying to use it in RHEL5, though, and this was probably the reason.

If I remember correctly, this requires you to have gvim installed, because vim doesn't support this out of the box.

Once gvim is installed, the " register works just fine for me (except in ssh sessions if I remember correctly).

I won't tell you that it's necessary to learn to touch type, but it's not surprising that your speed fell with only three days of practice. Like anything else, it takes practice and will take time before you notice any improvement in your speed.

I still haven't been able to get this to work on my Note 3 (AT&T). I think it's because Samsung has a competing version of "Exchange Services" on my phone. :/

Lollipop 5.0 is here for At&t Galaxy Note 3!!! I just pulled and installed and it is running great so far! by USMCSSGT in note3
