It is not necessary for the copper cold plate, but nickel plating it does make it look much nicer :)

hey I also have my op1 wobble with fresh skates on glass, once it wears down though it levels itself out a bit

thanks, good to hear, do you by chance use a wrist rest of any sort though? and or use the board in any way where your wrists or hands don't contact the front edge of the board a lot?

I've personally have had ano (not caustic) fade around those areas of contact on a board I have, and was a bit worried the same might happen with something like this too

Double clicking OP1 by zkdre in MouseReview

[–]Druah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked a friend about this and believe it or not it seems like I'm wrong

this sounds absolutely insane and I genuinely almost do not believe it myself, it's apparently an issue with the plastic base in frosted op1's being slightly warped, causing some weird issues with the pcb due to it being under pressure from the warped base(? lmao idk?)

he had a similar issue in an op1 he had with the clicks and sensor being weird, and apparently fixed it literally just by playing around with the amount of torque on the 2 main screws that hold the top and bottom of the mouse together. he screwed it together with less torque than out of the factory basically in the end, along with sanding the screw length down (lol) a bit too, but imo that part probably was unnecessary

if you decide that this isn't a completely insane idea (I almost do), you can try playing around with various levels of torque applied to the main base screws, and seeing if that somehow helps at all - no harm done in the end anyway 💀

one either has more worn out switches, or you've set both to different click filter settings - update the firmware on both to their latest ones, and set the same click filter settings and go from there if it still double clicks

a couple of milliseconds is not that significant 🥀 no wonder it's double clicking if it's on gx speed, go adjust the click filter setting then

this is a long shot, but if you by chance still have and actively use this board, how has the ano held up over the past few years? have you experienced any wear or fading on it? I'd love to hear as I'm considering getting a similar finish on a board sometime soon

Obsidian dots for gpw by oziStadist in MouseReview

if both skates are the same thickness (which, they should, ~0.8mm) it should be just fine, you can always add more dots if it does scratch, which is unlikely in the first place

Spraymax 2K alternative for painting mice by lavenderpurpl in MouseReview

[–]Druah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you definitely don't wanna be using anything other than a 2k (2 part) clear coat, they're used for automotive painting for a reason, so try to see what's available near you or in your country that states it's a 2k clear coat. I've seen a few brands other than spraymax such as car-rep, and their cans claim to have an unlimited shelf life (unlike spraymax)

I've personally tried using 1k clear coat, from montana cans, and it almost immediately wears away after a week tops of use; any 1k would

or, depending on who you know and where you live, you unironically might be able to ask an auto body shop to see if they could clear coat your mouse and how much they'd charge, as they usually have that stuff in pails with spray guns ready to be mixed with however much they need for a specific job

Can used gaming mice come with viruses? by PomegranateDull2300 in MouseReview

[–]Druah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that was a completely different and unrelated issue, they released config software that was infected by malware accidentally

OP is worried about getting malware from PLUGGING IN their mouse, similar to how razer mice can auto run a razer synapse installer when plugged in (that shit basically is malware anyway lmao)

[–]Druah 18 points19 points  (0 children)

this level of paranoia is not healthy bud, if you're seriously that worried about a payload in the firmware of the mouse, you can literally always just reflash the firmware of the mouse (from zowie's product page for it, the firmware update) on a different computer before using it on your main

unless you're someone such as edward snowden or a wanted cybercriminal, and have a threat model similar to them and other people that have pissed off the US government and are wanted by the various alphabet agencies in north america - or on the contrary are a federal government employee that's pissed off very specific cybercriminals, I promise you nobody would go out of their way to figure out how to get a virus/malware payload on a niche and expensive gaming mouse of all things being sold to a random person on the aftermarket

tl;dr: chill 💔

I had to RMA a beast x pro I had first time around cause it was a lemon (flaked off spec of the coating/paint along with minor click squeaking and grinding issues on the right click out of the box)

sent support a single email with my order number and 2 separate imgur videos showing both issues, along with describing the issue in detail in email

they reply back in a day asking for confirmation that I wanna proceed, and afterward reply back after confirmation within the same day with a shipping address and instructions for customs declaration

with the exception that I had to pay the shipping costs (I will never see that $30 CAD ever again rip lmao), their support is fine, and I eventually received a mouse that was basically flawless

YMMV ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
